Biological occurrence...The simultaneous nitrification and denitrification in step-feeding biological nitrogen removal process were investigated under different influent substrate concentrations and aeration flow rates. Biological occurrence of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification was verified in the aspect of nitrogen mass balance and alkalinity. The experimental results also showed that there was a distinct linear relationship between simultaneous nitrification and denitrification and DO concentration under the conditions of low and high aeration flow rate. In each experimental run the floc sizes of activated sludge were also measured and the results showed that simultaneous nitrification and denitrification could occur with very small size of floc.展开更多

Utilizing least square kurtosis of output signals as a cost function, the new gradient-based algorithm to update frequency of the adaptive IIR notch filter and the new variable step-size algorithm are given. The computer simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better ability in suppressing colored Gaussian noises and better accuracy in estimating parameters at low SNR than previous algorithms.展开更多
To solve the contradiction between convergence rate and steady-state error in least mean square (LMS) algorithm, basing on independence assumption, this paper proposes and proves the optimal step-size theorem from the...To solve the contradiction between convergence rate and steady-state error in least mean square (LMS) algorithm, basing on independence assumption, this paper proposes and proves the optimal step-size theorem from the view of minimizing mean squared error (MSE). The theorem reveals the one-to-one mapping between the optimal step-size and MSE. Following the theorem, optimal variable step-size LMS (OVS-LMS) model, describing the theoretical bound of the convergence rate of LMS algorithm, is constructed. Then we discuss the selection of initial optimal step-size and updating of optimal step-size at the time of unknown system changing. At last an optimal step-size LMS algorithm is proposed and tested in various environments. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm is very close to the theoretical bound.展开更多

Under the circumstance that the first step is higher than others, at the step surface an aer...The energy dissipation of X-shaped flaring gate piers ahead of a stepped spillway was adopted in the Suofengying Hydroplant. Under the circumstance that the first step is higher than others, at the step surface an aerated cavity occured behind piers. The interaction of the weir head, the elevation difference between crest and chamber outlet, the first step height, the slopes of weir end and step, and the size of cavity, was investigated, the expression was derived to characterize their relationship, and the corresponding curves were plotted. The comparison of the calculated and simulated results with the measured data was performed. When the slopes of step and weir end are equivalent, the relative height difference between the first and second steps becomes the main factor influencing the aerated cavity. These findings may be useful in practical applications.展开更多
