The technology is based on the sensiti...The Seasat-A satellite scatterometer(SASS) demonstrated very successfully that scatterometers can makeaccurate synoptic measurements of surface wind vectors field over the ocean. The technology is based on the sensitivityof microwave radar back scatter to the ocean waves in centimeter scale created by the action of the surface wind. More-over, the back scatter is anisotropic, therefore, wind speed and direction can be derived from radar measurements attwo or more different azimuths. Owing to the nonlinear nature of scatter model function and the existence of variousnoise sources in the measurements, the retrieval wind results consist of as many as four wind directions. A new algo-rithm is proposed to recover ocean wind field from the SASS normalized cross-section measurement in this paper. Comparison with those estimated from the SASS surface wind analysed by Peteherych et al . (1984) and other referencesshow agreement largely in the wind direction and more exactly in the wind speed.展开更多

Crystallization kinetics of Fe52Cr18Mo7B16C4Nb3 alloy was evaluated by X-ray diffraction(XRD),differential scanning calorimetric(DSC) tests and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) observations in this research...Crystallization kinetics of Fe52Cr18Mo7B16C4Nb3 alloy was evaluated by X-ray diffraction(XRD),differential scanning calorimetric(DSC) tests and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) observations in this research work.In effect,crystallization and growth mechanism were investigated by using DSC tests at four different heating rates(10,20,30,40 K/min).Results showed that a two-step crystallization process occurred in the alloy in which α-Fe and Fe3B phases were crystallized,respectively in the structure after heat treatment.Activation energy for the first step of crystallization,i.e.α-Fe was measured to be 421 and 442 kJ/mol according to Kissinger-Starink and Ozawa models,respectively.Further,Avrami exponent calculated from DSC curves was 1.6 and a two-dimensional diffusion controlled growth mechanism with decreasing nucleation rate was observed in the alloy.Moreover,it was known from the TEM observations that crystalline α-Fe phase nucleated in the structure of the alloy in an average size of 10 nm and completely mottled morphology.展开更多

However, such assessments only reflect the concentration of pollutants at the time...The traditional way of assessing water quality of water bodies is through measurement of biological, physical and chemical parameters. However, such assessments only reflect the concentration of pollutants at the time of sampling not periodic pollution events. The goal of the study was to evaluate the river health using the macro-invertebrates that are found within the Mucheke and Shagashe rivers of Masvingo City as water quality monitors. The South African Scoring System (SASS 5) was used to score using the sensitivity of macro-invertebrates to levels of pollution in the two river systems. The data collection process was carried in April 2017 at four sampling sites using the kick sampling method and results validated by testing the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the water and comparing them with the macro-invertebrates score. Results showed that the mean sensitivity score of macro-invertebrates showed variations depending on the selected site. Sample sites B2 and A2 downstream of the two river systems show high levels pollution tolerant macro-invertebrates as compared to sites A1 and B1 that are on the upper course and have more of pollution sensitive macro-invertebrates. On validation, to a large extent the levels of pollution indicated by macro-invertebrates were found to be congruent to the levels of pollution indicated by the physical, chemical and biological parameters. The research concludes that the presence of specific types of macro-invertebrates can be used to assess the levels of pollution in Mucheke and Shagashe rivers of Masvingo City.展开更多
This paper addresses the characterization of the Continental Intercalaire aquifer (CI) in the Tinrhert-East area of Illizi Basin on the Algerian-Libyan border, which belongs to the SASS1 system, one of the biggest tra...This paper addresses the characterization of the Continental Intercalaire aquifer (CI) in the Tinrhert-East area of Illizi Basin on the Algerian-Libyan border, which belongs to the SASS1 system, one of the biggest transboundary aquifers in the world. This study concerns a superficies of 4 300 km^2. On the basis of Mud Logging borehole data conducted in this part of the aquifer, a realistic characterization of the aquifer was done. The thickness of the CI aquifer varies from 300 m in the south to 700 m in the north, and the depth ranges from 180 m to 320 m. The interpretation of the logs showed that the aquifer is characterized by a maximum net thickness in its southwestern part (more than 600 m), the porosity is very high, ranging from 30% in the west to 24% at the Libyan borders, the permeability is low to medium around 10^-5 m/s,and the maximum transmissivity values of about 8×10^-3 m^2/s were recorded at the center of the study area. The depth of water varies from 235 m to 312 m, and the water flows from south to north, in accordance with the general direction observed in the CI aquifer in the Northern Sahara Aquifer System (SASS), The porosity values obtained from the interpretation of the sonic and density logs permit to estimate the water reserves of this aquifer considered fossil, at thresholds much higher than what was considered until now.展开更多

With the development of satellite miniaturization and remote sensing,the establishment of microsatellite constellations is an inevitable trend.Due to their limited size,weight,and power,spaceborne storage systems with...With the development of satellite miniaturization and remote sensing,the establishment of microsatellite constellations is an inevitable trend.Due to their limited size,weight,and power,spaceborne storage systems with excellent scalability,performance,and reliability are still one of the technical bottlenecks of remote sensing microsatellites.Based on the commercial off-the-shelf field-programmable gate array and memory devices,a spaceborne advanced storage system(SASS)is proposed in this paper.This work provides a dynamic programming,queue scheduling multiple-input multiple-output cache technique and a high-speed,high-reliability NAND flash controller for multiple microsatellite payload data.Experimental results show that SASS has outstanding scalability with a maximum write rate of 2429 Mb/s and preserves at least 78.53%of the performance when a single NAND flash fails.The scheduling technique effectively shortens the data scheduling time,and the data remapping method of the NAND flash controller can reduce the retention error by at least 50.73%and the program disturbance error by at least 37.80%.展开更多
