Patients and Method: It was a retrospective descriptive cro...Aim: To determine the epidemiological, diagnosis and treatment of secondary bone cancer at the National Hospital University Hubert Koutoukou Maga of Cotonou. Patients and Method: It was a retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study carried out from January 1999 to December 2013 on the records of patients treated in the rheumatology department. The selected files had radiological images of tumor appearance objectified by two radiologists. The diagnosis of secondary bone cancer was confirmed after a bone biopsy or the discovery of a primitive tumor site. Patients with hematologic malignancy and incomplete or insufficiently explored records were excluded. Results: Among 10,292 patients followed in the service, 51 (0.5%) had documented bone metastasis. The sex ratio was 1.83. The mean age of patients was 54 ± 9 [26-85] years, with 53% of those over 60 years old. Secondary cancers were on the spine (74.5%), pelvis (35.3%) and the long bones (39.2%). The primary cancer most frequently found was that of the prostate and breast (45.1% and 27.6%, respectively) followed by genital and digestive cancers (9.8% and 7.8%, respectively). Treatment was dominated by hormone therapy (83%) bisphosphonates (70.5%) and chemotherapy (57%). Conclusion: The profile of bone cancer in Benin hospital is very diverse and dominated by the types and osteolytic ostéocondensant. Primary cancers were dominated by the prostate and breast. Bisphosphonates took an important place in the treatment of the disease.展开更多
Background Previous epidemiological studies have consistently found a positive family history of esophageal cancer is associated with a significantly increased risk of the cancer.However,whether the elevated risk coul...Background Previous epidemiological studies have consistently found a positive family history of esophageal cancer is associated with a significantly increased risk of the cancer.However,whether the elevated risk could be attributed to common household exposure or inherited susceptibility is uncertain.This study aimed to highlight the effect of genetic predisposition by noting the significant differences in onset age and multiple primary cancers between esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cases with or without a positive family history of the cancer.Methods Age at onset and the percentage of multiple primary cancers were compared between ESCCs with (n=766) or without (n=1 776) a positive family history of the cancer in a consecutive surgery cohort at the Department of Thoracic Surgery of Hebei Tumor Hospital and the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University.Results Overall,ESCCs with a positive family history of the cancer featured both a significantly younger age of onset and significantly more multiple primary cancers than those with a negative family history (onset age 51.83 vs.53.49 years old,P 〈0.01; percent of multiple primary cancers 5.50% vs.1.70%,x2=25.42,P 〈0.01).Both the differences were evident in subgroup analyses,but did not correlate.While age at onset differed significantly by family history among the male,smoking,and drinking groups,the difference of multiple primary cancers was significant among the otherwise nonsmoking,nondrinking,and younger onset age groups.Conclusions Younger age of onset and multiple primary cancers associated with ESCCs with a positive,as opposed to a negative family history of the cancer,suggest a genetic predisposition.The results of subgroup analyses indicate a younger age of ESCC development results from the interaction of environmental and genetic risk factors,but multiple primary cancers may be related only to genetic predisposition.展开更多
Objective To study the clinicopathological fe atures of the multiple primary cance r in Chinese hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer(HNPCC).Methods Thirty-two kindreds with HNPCC were registered and followed up.C...Objective To study the clinicopathological fe atures of the multiple primary cance r in Chinese hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer(HNPCC).Methods Thirty-two kindreds with HNPCC were registered and followed up.Clinical data were analyzed.Results Among 91cases of 32HNPCC kindreds,10cases from 9kindreds developed multiple metachronous prim ary cancers and no synchronous cancers were found.Eight cases of ab ove 10cases were from typical HNPCC f amilies.The initial cancer presented as colorectal cancer in 9p atients.The second tumor presented as colonic cancer in 3patients,hepatic cancer.oophoroma and endom etrial carcinoma in 2patients respectively,and cereglioma in one patient.The second tumor occurred a fter 60~108mouths(mean 68mouths).Conclusions The morbidity of the multiple primary cancer of Chi nese HNPCC kindreds increases.HNPC C patients should be followed up strictly in order to discover multip le primary cancer earlier and get better outcome.展开更多
