The energy required to create new surfaces in the comminution of mica powder with cavitation abrasive water jet was calculated,in order to estimate its efficiency of energy consumption. The particle size distribution and the specific surface area were measured by applying a JEM-200CX transmission electron microscope and an Autosorb-1 automatic surface area analyzer. The study results show that the efficiency of energy consumed in creating new surface areas is as high as 2.92%,or 4.94% with the aid of cavitation in the comminution of mica powder. This efficiency will decrease with an increase in the number of comminutions. After three comminutions, the efficien-cies will become 1.91% and 2.29% for comminution without cavitation and with cavitation, respectively. The abrasive water jet technology is an effective way for comminution of mica powder.展开更多

The mechanical and wear properties of hybrid aluminium metal matrix composites were investigated. Mica and SiC ceramic particles were incorporated into A1 356 alloy by stir-casting route. Microstructures of the samples were studied using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The chemical composition was investigated through energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) detector. The results indicate that the better strength and hardness are achieved with A1/10SiC-3mica composites. The increase in mass fraction of mica improves the wear loss of the composites.展开更多

It was found that ZrO2 is an effective nucleation agent in mica glass- ceramics. Stabilized by Ca2+, a lot of t--ZrO2 particles precipitate from ZrO2-mica glass-ceramics. The ZrO2 particles can effectively limit the growth of mica crystal and benefit the mechanical properties of glass-ceramics.展开更多

The force- distance profiles were obtained under different pressure conditions. It was found that the chitosan was adsorbed on the mica surface and formed a stable nanofilm under acid conditions. The adsorbed chitosan nanofilms induced a short- range monotonically steric force when two such surfaces came close in the acid buffer. The adhesion forces between the two chitosan-coated mica surfaces varied with the loads. Strong adhesion between the two chitosan-coated mica surfaces was observed at high pressure. Such pressure-dependent adhesion properties are most likely related to the molecular configurations and hydrogen bonds reordering under high confinement.展开更多

The morphology and the assembled behavior of the nano-Sb2O3 on the mica were analyzed by means of TEM. The flame retardant properties of nano-Sb2O3 and Sb2O3/mica complex were studied by combustion test and thermal analysis. The results show that the Sb2O3 nanoparticles are assembled uniformly on the mica substrates. The nano-Sb2O3 was characterized with small size, narrow size distribution, uniform crystal and monodispersed particles. Compared with nano-Sb2O3, the Sb2O3/mica complexes have been achieved the same coordinated effects with Chlorinated Paraffin(CP) and excellent flame retardant properties.展开更多

The formation of ss DNA layers is first studied by tuning the ssDNA concentrations, and the experimental results indicate that the ss DNA concentration of 100 ng / μL is ideal for forming a ssDNA monolayer structure on the mica surface, and the hardwall value measured to be 1.04 nm under this circumstance is regarded as the thickness of the ssDNA monolayer confined on mica. The desorption behavior of ssDNA molecules from the mica surface is further studied by observing and comparing different shapes of the force-distance curves under certain conditions. It is found that the desorption of ss DNA molecules from the mica surface occurs as the monovalent salts are added into the gap buffer. It is inferred that the competition effect between monovalent and divalent salts can induce the release of ssDNA from substrate. The results also reveal that 10 mmol / L monovalent salts( Na~+)is sufficient for the desorption of ssDNA from mica. This work provides an applicable method to study the binding mechanism of ss DNA molecules on inorganic substrates.展开更多

We observe a dense, almost fiat ethanol bilayer formed in the vicinity of the mica surface, with the hydrophobic alkyl groups pointing outward from the surface. Remarkably, such ethanol bilayer is laterally well-ordered with patterned adsorption sites. Each ethanol molecule in the first layer donates one hydrogen bond to the surface basal oxygen atoms and accepts one hydrogen bond from that in the second layer. The ethanol molecules within the bilayer exhibit constrained lateral mobility and delayed dynamics as compared with bulk ethanol, whereas those on top of the bilayer have bulk-like characteristics.展开更多
