微观力学表征技术是表征材料微纳米力学性能的重要技术手段,目前已被广泛用于表征材料的超微构造和解析材料的力学行为。随着材料科学研究尺度缩小,微观力学表征技术逐步从纳米向超纳米、从分子向超分子甚至粒子水平发展。按照试样信息... 微观力学表征技术是表征材料微纳米力学性能的重要技术手段,目前已被广泛用于表征材料的超微构造和解析材料的力学行为。随着材料科学研究尺度缩小,微观力学表征技术逐步从纳米向超纳米、从分子向超分子甚至粒子水平发展。按照试样信息的不同方式,微观力学表征技术主要包括纳米力学测试技术(探针技术)和超纳米力学测试技术(显微镜技术);其中,纳米力学测试技术包括准静态纳米压痕技术、动态纳米压痕技术和动态模量成像技术,超纳米力学测试技术包括原子力显微镜技术和基于原子力显微镜技术的新型微观力学表征技术。木材是一种多孔状、层次状、各向异性的非均质天然高分子复合材料,其超微结构是细胞壁由不同厚度的层次组成。细胞壁是决定木材和木质纤维材料性能的主要因素,是木材的实质承载结构;细胞壁的力学性能是由壁层结构、化学组成的分布与结合方式决定的。开展木材和改性木材细胞壁纳观尺度的力学性能、分布及影响对实现木基复合材料的高效设计具有重要意义。自Wimmer等首次将纳米压痕技术应用于天然木材细胞壁微观力学后,国内外学者主要采取准静态纳米压痕测量技术和动态纳米压痕测量技术对不同树种木材以及化学改性和生物改性木材细胞壁的硬度、弹性模量、蠕变特性与黏弹性等力学性能进行了研究。木质材料界面作为纳米级厚度的界面相或者界面层,不仅影响木质材料的强度、刚度,而且影响木质材料的断裂韧性等。界面力学是决定木基复合材料整体力学性质的关键,是引起材料变形、强度下降的主要原因。研究界面的属性和特征对于木基复合材料整体属性的评价以及结构的优化设计有一定参考价值,研究内容涉及有胶合界面、纤维增强聚合物界面以及木制品涂层的微观力学。随着研究尺度逐� 展开更多

By taking the frozen soil as a particle-reinforced composite material which consists of clay soil (i.e., the matrix) and ice particles, a micromechanical constitutive model is established to describe the dynamic compressive deformation of frozen soil. The proposed model is constructed by referring to the debonding damage theory of composite materials, and addresses the effects of strain rate and temperature on the dynamic compressive deformation of frozen soil. The proposed model is verified through comparison of the predictions with the corresponding dynamic experimental data of frozen soil obtained from the split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) tests at different high strain rates and temperatures. In this work, a set of GTN (Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman) parameters of the Alloy52M dissimilar metal welded joint (DMWJ) have been calibrated, and a micromechanical analysis of in-plane constraint effects on the local fracture behavior of two cracks, which located in the weakest regions of the DMWJ, has been investigated by the local approach based on the GTN damage model. The results show that the partition of the material and the variation of the q2 parameter make the J-resistance curves obtained by numerical simulations close to the experimental values. The numerical J-resistance curves and crack growth paths are consistent with the experiment results, which show that the GTN damage model can incorporate the in-plane constraint effect. Furthermore, after the stress, strain and damage fields at the crack tip during the crack propagation process have been calculated, and the change of the J-resistance curves, crack growth paths and fracture mechanism with in-plane constraint have been analyzed. 展开更多

Mine overburden dumps have posed significant safety issues in the operations of various unit operations of open pit min-ing especially the external dumps. The external dumps are composed of a mixture of fragmented rocks and loose soil. Their charac-teristic is comparable to heavily discontinuous solid mass. The conventional approach of limit equilibrium methods provide safety factors for the slope but nothing about the stress-strain characteristics of the large dump mass. The designs of dump location and their respective geometry are integrated for the know-how of the stability characteristics of these dumps. The discrete element method uses a circular disk to represent the granular solid mass and their interactions are described by the Newton’s third law of motion. The displacement is described by the sliding of the circular disk. This work is focused on the modeling efficiency of the discrete element methods to represent the behaviour of mine dump masses with the specified joint plane for the limit equilibrium method. The advantage of the work lies on the ease of information retrieval at any point at the dump mass concerning the stress and strain histories, displacement, failures etc. which when integrated produces a better understanding of the stability of the dump masses. 展开更多

In this study, a novel approach to incorporate the pore water pressure in the discrete element method (DEM) to comprehensively model saturated granular media was developed. A numerical model was constructed based on the DEM by implanting additional routines in the basic DEM code; pore water pressure calculations were used with a two-dimensional (2D) model to simulate the undrained behavior of satu- rated granular media. This model coupled the interaction of solid particles and the pore fluid in saturated granular media. Finally, several 2D undrained shear tests were simulated. The test results showed that the model could predict the response of the saturated granular soil to shear loading. The effect of initial compaction was investigated. Biaxial tests on dense and loose specimens were conducted, and the effect of the initial density on the change in shear strength and the volume change of the system was inves- tigated. The overall behavior of loose and dense specimens was phenomenologically similar to the real granular material. Constant volume tests were simulated, and the results were compared to those from the coupled model. Induced anisotropy was micromechanically investigated by studying the contact force orientation. The change in anisotropy depended on the modeling scheme. However, the overall responses of the media obtained usinz the couoled and constant volume methods were similar. 展开更多

High-entropy alloys(HEAs)possess outstanding features such as corrosion resistance,irradiation resistance,and good mechan-ical properties.A few HEAs have found applications in the fields of aerospace and defense.Extensive studies on the deformation mech-anisms of HEAs can guide microstructure control and toughness design,which is vital for understanding and studying state-of-the-art structural materials.Synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction are necessary techniques for materials science research,especially for in situ coupling of physical/chemical fields and for resolving macro/microcrystallographic information on materials.Recently,several re-searchers have applied synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction methods to study the deformation mechanisms,phase transformations,stress behaviors,and in situ processes of HEAs,such as variable-temperature,high-pressure,and hydrogenation processes.In this review,the principles and development of synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction are presented,and their applications in the deformation mechanisms of HEAs are discussed.The factors that influence the deformation mechanisms of HEAs are also outlined.This review fo-cuses on the microstructures and micromechanical behaviors during tension/compression or creep/fatigue deformation and the application of synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction methods to the characterization of dislocations,stacking faults,twins,phases,and intergrain/interphase stress changes.Perspectives on future developments of synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction and on research directions on the deformation mechanisms of novel metals are discussed. 展开更多

In this paper, based on a micromechanicat model associated with the thermodynamic theory, authors show that there are some limits for the martensite reorientation, which is hindered by the magnetization rotation. The additional compliance tensor induced by a single opening elliptic microcrack in a representative volume element is derived, and the effect of microcracks with random orientations is analyzed with the Taylor's scheme by introducing an appropriate probability density function. During the oxidizing process,the pyrolytic carbon interphase gradually recesses from the crack site in the axial direction of the fiber into the interior of the material. Carbon fiber usually presents notch-like or local neck-shrink oxidation phenomenon,causing strength degradation. But,the reason for SiC fiber degradation is the aw growth mechanism on its surface. A micromechanical model based on the above mechanisms was established to simulate the mechanical properties of CMCs after high temperature oxidation. The statistic and shearlag theory were applied and the calculation expressions for retained tensile modulus and strength were deduced,respectively. Meanwhile,the interphase recession and fiber strength degradation were considered. And then,the model was validated by application to a C/SiC composite. 展开更多

Modeling the Interaction between Vacancies and Grain Boundaries during Ductile Fracture

The experimental results in previous studies have indicated that during the ductile fracture of pure metals,vacancies aggregate and form voids at grain boundaries.However,the physical mechanism underlying this phenomenon remains not fully understood.This study derives the equilibrium distribution of vacancies analytically by following thermodynamics and the micromechanics of crystal defects.This derivation suggests that vacancies cluster in regions under hydrostatic compression to minimize the elastic strain energy.Subsequently,a finite element model is developed for examining more general scenarios of interaction between vacancies and grain boundaries.This model is first verified and validated through comparison with some available analytical solutions,demonstrating consistency between finite element simulation results and analytical solutions within a specified numerical accuracy.A systematic numerical study is then conducted to investigate the mechanism that might govern the micromechanical interaction between grain boundaries and the profuse vacancies typically generated during plastic deformation.The simulation results indicate that the reduction in total elastic strain energy can indeed drive vacancies toward grain boundaries,potentially facilitating void nucleation in ductile fracture. 展开更多
