Under the background of development of Hainan Free Trade Zone(port)to meet its demand of English language talents with good intercultural communication competence,an empirical study is conducted to evaluate vocational...Under the background of development of Hainan Free Trade Zone(port)to meet its demand of English language talents with good intercultural communication competence,an empirical study is conducted to evaluate vocational college students’communicative competence of intercultural communication.The results indicate that among the five factors of communicative competence of intercultural communication,students’listening competence is the highest,followed successively by oral competence,strategic competence,sociolinguistic competence,discourse competence.The analytical results show that each factor among the five factors are positively correlated with the other four factors.Moreover,students’scores in college English Test(Grade A)have a positive correlation with their oral English competence,discourse competence and sociolinguistic competence,respectively.展开更多

Based on teaching experiments, investigations among students and the results that 80% of students have scored high in the listening part of CET4 (College English Test Band 4),40% of students passed the Spoken English Test of PETS (Public English Test System) and one student won the special prize in the National English Contest for College Students, another student the 1st prize, 3 students the 2nd and 4 students the 3rd prize, this paper intends to reveal (in the former part) the potential obstacles that may hinder students from understanding a listening text, to discuss what procedures and techniques that a teacher should adopt in class, and to suggest (in the latter part) some post-listening activities that can be turned into oral practice and introduce the oral assessment in the terminal exams. This research concludes that only by taking these factors into consideration and adopting effective procedures and techniques in class, can a teacher expect to help students improve their listening and speaking competence.展开更多
