Having an irregular plan, the site measures 733m in cir...In May-June 1999, the Heilongjiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology carried out a trial excavation on the city-site at Bao'an Village. Having an irregular plan, the site measures 733m in circumference and occupies an area of about 50,000sq m, with a gate in the northeast. The cultural deposits in the city fall into two phases. The early phase is roughly conformable to the early remains in the seventh area of the Fenglin city-site and the Guntuling culture in the Anbanghe River valley and goes back to the Western and Eastern Han period. The late phase of remains is similar to the Fenglin culture and corresponds to the Wei-Jin period. The trail excavation sheds light on the construction period, building methods, works order and abandoning factors of the city. Another piece of information from the site is about the use of ploughs in lical people's farming in the Wei-Jin period.展开更多
About one hundred city-sites of the Jin period have been discovered in the Heilongjiang area. Most of them are medium-or small-sized, but previously they were not excavated in a real sense. During the excavation under discussion, archaeologists revealed city-walls, city-gates, moat sections and suburban activity areas of the Chejiachengzi city-site. These findings reflect rather clearly the shape and stucture of the city and provide new information about the then medium-and small-sized cities. The ruined house and the tomb excavated this time yielded more than 100 objects. According to the History of the Jin《金史》 and other literary records, the city was an early Jin period courier station on the road to the Central Plains.展开更多
