Direct exposure of samples to the active species of air generated by a One Atmosphere Uniform Glow Discharge Plasma (OAUGDP) has been used to etch and to increase the surface energy of metallic surfaces, photoresist, polymer films, and nonwoven fab- rics. The OAUGDP is a non-thermal plasma with the classical characteristics of a DC normal glow discharge that operates in air (and other gases) at atmospheric pres- sure. Neither a vacuum system nor batch processing is necessary. A wide range of applications to metals, photoresist, films, fabrics, and polymeric webs can be accom- modated by direct exposure of the workpiece to the plasma in parallel-plate reactors. This technolopy is simple, it produces effects that can be obtained in no other way at one atmosphere; it generates minimal pollutants or unwanted by-products; and it is suitable for individual sample or online treatment of metallic surfaces, wafers, films, and fabrics. Early exposures of solid materials to the OAUGDP required minutes to produce rela- tively small increases of surface energy. These durations appeared too long for com- mercial application to fast-moving webs. Recent improvements in OAUGDP gas com- position, power density, plasma quality, recireulating gas flow, and impedance match- ing of the power supply to the parallel plate plasma reactor have made it possible to raise the surface energy of a variety of polymeric webs (PP, PET PE etc.) to levels of 60 to 70 dynes/cm with one second of exposure. In air plasmas, the high surface ener- gies are not durable, and fall to 50 dynes/cm after periods of weeks to months. Here, we report the exposure of metallic surfaces, photoresist, polymeric films, and nonwo- ven fabrics made of PP and PET to an impedance matched parallel plate OAUGDP for durations ranging from one second to several tens of seconds. In this paper, the treatment of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film surface for improving hydrophilicity using the non-thermal plasma generated by atmospheric pressure glow discharge (APGD) in air is conducted. The discharge characteristics of APGD are shown by measurement of their electrical discharge parameters and observation of light-emission phenomena, and the surface properties of PET before and after the APGD treatment are studied using contact angle measurement, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It is found that the APGD is homogeneous and stable in the whole gas gap, which differs from the commonly filamentary dielectric barrier discharge (DBD). It was found that not only the spatial distributions of the internal parameters such as the electric field, the electron density and ion density are similar to those in a low-pressure glow discharge, but also the visually apparent attribute (light emission) is exactly the same as the observable feature of a low-pressure glow discharge. This confirms that the uniform DBD in atmospheric helium is a glow type discharge. The fact that the thickness of the cathode fall layer is about 0.5 mm, much longer than that of a normal glow discharge in helium at atmospheric pressure, indicates the discharge being a sub-normal glow discharge close to normal one. The multipulse phenomenon was reproduced in the simulation and a much less complicated explanation for this phenomenon was given. 展开更多

Three types of anodic films(unsealed,hot water sealed and agent sealed)were prepared to study the effects of anodic film structure on the adhesive bonding performance of AA5754 automotive sheets.The morphology of the anodic films was examined by using scanning electron microscope(SEM)and the composition was examined by glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy(GDOES).The adhesive bonding strength and the durability in corrosive environment were investigated by using single lap-hear test and salt spray test(SST),respectively.The results showed that the unsealed sample could provide high initial bonding strength,but the durability was poor in corrosive environment.The hot water sealed sample could provide high durability,but the bonding strength was low.In contrast,the agent sealed sample displayed porous structure at outer layer and partially plugged nano pores structure at inner layer,providing both excellent bonding strength and durability. 展开更多

The oxidative degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) in aqueous solution induced by plasma with submersed glow discharge has been investigated. The concentration of 4-CP and the reaction intermediates were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Various influencing factors such as the initial pH, the concentration of 4-CP and the catalytic action of Fe^2+ were examined. The results indicate that 4-CP is eventually degraded into inorganic ion, dioxide carbon and water. The attack of hydroxyl radicals on the benzene rings of 4-CP in the initial stage of oxidative reactions is presumed to be a key step. They also suggest that the reaction is of a pseudo-first order kinetic reaction and the proposed method is an efficient way for the 4-CP degradation, 展开更多

An electrohydrodynamic (EHD) method, which is based on glow discharge plasma, is presented for flow control in an S-shaped duct. The research subject is an expanding channel with a constant width and a rectangular cross section. An equivalent divergence angle and basic function are introduced to build the three-dimensional model. Subsequently, the plasma physical models are simplified as the effects of electrical body force and work (done by the force) on the fluid near the wall. With the aid of FLUENT software, the source terms of momentum and energy are added to the Navier-Stokes equation. Finally, the original performance of three models (A, B and C) is studied, in which model A demonstrates better performance. Then EHD control based on model A is discussed. The results show that the EHD method is an effective way of reducing flow loss and improving uniformity at the duct exit. The innovation in this study is the assessment of the EHD control effect on the flow in an S-shaped duct. Both the parametric modeling of the S-shaped duct and the simplified models of plasma provide valuable information for future research on aircraft inlet ducts. 展开更多

In an aqueous solution, normal electrolysis at high voltages switches over spontaneously to glow discharge electrolysis and gives rise to hydroxyl radical, hydrogen peroxide, and aqueous electron, as well as several other active species. Hydroxyl radical directly attacks organic contaminants to make them oxidized. In the present paper, 2-naphthylamine is eventually degraded into hydrogen carbonate and carbon dioxide. The degradation process is analyzed by using an Ultraviolet (UV) absorption spectrum, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and chemical oxygen demand (COD). It is demonstrated that 2-naphthylamine (co =30 mg·1-1) is completely converted within 2h at 30℃ and 600 V by glow discharge electrolysis, and the degradation is strongly dependent upon the presence of ferrous ions. COD is ascended in the absence of ferrous ions and descended in the presence of them. 展开更多

A direct-current air plasma jet operated underwater presents three stable modes including an intermittently-pulsed discharge, a periodically-pulsed discharge and a continuous discharge with increasing the power voltage. The three discharge modes have different appearances for the plasma plumes. Moreover, gap voltage-current characteristics indicate that the continuous discharge is in a normal glow regime. Spectral lines from reactive species(OH, N2, N2^+, Hα,and O) have been revealed in the emission spectrum of the plasma jet operated underwater.Spectral intensities emitted from OH radical and oxygen atom increase with increasing the power voltage or the gas flow rate, indicating that reactive species are abundant. These reactive species cause the degradation of the methylene blue dye in solution. Effects of the experimental parameters such as the power voltage, the gas flow rate and the treatment time are investigated on the degradation efficiency. Results indicate that the degradation efficiency increases with increasing the power voltage, the gas flow rate or the treatment time. Compared with degradation in the intermittently-pulsed mode or the periodically-pulsed one, it is more efficient in the continuous mode, reaching 98% after 21 min treatment. 展开更多

The oxidation resistances of the coatings were evaluated at high temperature. Ir-Zr coating consisted of two layers: the primary layer close to the substrate was composed of dense columnar grains and the second layer was composed of dense grains of nanometric size. The mass gain of Ir coating above 800℃ was about 1.35% due to the formation of solid IrO2. The mass loss of Ir coating was about 5.3% due to the formation of gaseous oxide IrO3 when being held at 1227 ℃ for 30 min. The substrate was protected more effectively by multilayer than monolayer coating of Ir in oxidizing environment. The Ir-Zr coating was well bonded to the substrate after oxidation at 800℃. After oxidation at 1000℃, the Ir-Zr coating was poorly bonded to the substrate. The oxidation resistance of Ir-Zr coating was poor due to high content of Zr. 展开更多

However, the glow plasma can influence the structure of the coating at the single substrate edge. In this study, the iridium coating was prepared by double glow plasma on the surface of single niobium substrate. The microstructure of iridium coating at the substrate edge was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The composition of the coating was confirmed by energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. There was a boundary between the coating and the substrate edge. The covered area for the iridium coating at the substrate edge became fewer and fewer from the inner area to the outer flange-area. The bamboo sprout-like particles on the surface of the substrate edge were composed of elemental niobium. The substrate edge was composed of the Nb coating and there was a transition zone between the Ir coating and the Nb coating. The interesting phenomenon of the substrate edge could be attributed to the effects of the bias voltages and the plasma cloud in the deposition chamber. The substrate edge effect could be mitigated or eliminated by adding lots of small niobium plates around the substrate in a deposition process. 展开更多

基于视觉的细颗粒物浓度(PM_(2.5))估计技术依据成像时悬浮细颗粒物对光线散射和吸收的整体影响来评估其浓度。这类技术具备良好的普适性,可实时检测广阔区域。已有研究依赖大气光均匀且充足的日间场景,无法适用于缺乏大气光且光照不均... 基于视觉的细颗粒物浓度(PM_(2.5))估计技术依据成像时悬浮细颗粒物对光线散射和吸收的整体影响来评估其浓度。这类技术具备良好的普适性,可实时检测广阔区域。已有研究依赖大气光均匀且充足的日间场景,无法适用于缺乏大气光且光照不均匀的夜间场景。本文提出首个基于视觉的夜间PM_(2.5)浓度估计方法,通过图像处理捕获人造光源在不同散射方向的光强分布,并以此特征拟合浓度值。该方法创新地将人造光源及周边光晕区域视为夜晚雾霾信息的主要来源。由于夜间自然光照强度相对人造光源较低,其主导的区域往往趋于漆黑,导致日间雾霾信息的主要来源(自然光照下像素颜色随着景深增加而逐渐接近“大气光/天空”颜色)在夜间的作用相比光源处要小很多。该方法明显优于日间PM_(2.5)估计方法,平均误差(MAE)为6.187μg/m^(3),决定系数(R^(2))为0.857,对比最新的端到端的神经网络方法在MAE和R^(2)上分别有20.69%、13.36%的相对提升。 展开更多

Each of them underwent the dechlorination, deam-ination through oxidative degradation, and were eventually decomposed into hydrogen carbonate and carbon dioxide. It was testified that the chlorine atom and amidogen could be transformed into chloride ion and nitrite ion, respectively. Fe2+ has a remarkable catalytic effect on the degradation of them. On the basis of the detailed analysis of the intermediate products and kinetic behaviors, the reaction pathway was proposed, in which the attack of hydroxyl radical on the benzene ring of starting material might be a key step. 展开更多

In this paper, the effects of the existence of plasma actuator electrodes and also various configurations of the actuator for controlling the flow field around a circular cylinder are experimentally investigated. The cylinder is made of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) and considered as a dielectric barrier. Two electrodes are fiush-mounted on the surface of the cylinder and are connected to a DC high voltage power supply lbr generation of electrical discharge. Pressure distribution results show that the existence of the electrodes and also the plasma are able to change the pressure distribution around the cylinder and consequently the lili and drag coefficients. It is found that the effect of the existence of the electrodes is comparable with the effect of plasma actuator in con- trolling the flow field around the cylinder and this effect is not reported by other researchers. Eventually it is concluded that the existence of the electrodes or any extra obiects on the cylinder and also the existence of the plasma are capable of changing the flow field structure around the cylinder so that the behavior of the lift and drag coefficients of the cylinder will be changed significantly. 展开更多
