In this paper, the electroacupuncture (EA) treatments were performed on subjects with slight gastric disorders and the EEGs were monitored in the meanwhile. The EEGs features of baseline, during and after EA treatments were analyzed. The results show that the EA treatments do enhance the regularity of EEGs. And a highly possible pattern for EA to attain the enhancement is to regulate the pacemaker quantity and propagation of slow waves rather than regulating the amplitude of slow waves.展开更多

The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between Helicobacter pylori disease and bacterial count. In this study, 287 patients with dyspeptic symptoms were evaluated. Three variables including patient-reported data, clinical signs and bacterial load of gastric specimens were analyzed. Biopsy samples were collected from patients who were referred for endoscopies because of dyspeptic symptoms. Initially, the clinical status was evaluated and recorded by a questionnaire. DNA extraction was performed and H. pylori was analyzed for bacterial count by Real-time PCR assay and specific primers and probe. The variety range of bacteria in specimens was 104 to 1012. The results revealed that a greater relationships existed between 1012 and gastric cancer (p = 0.036), also 104 and acid reflux (p = 0.006) and vomiting (p = 0.047). Real-time PCR assay provides a highly accurate, rapid and precise method for detection of H. pylori and determination of progressive disease due to this bacterium.展开更多

H. pylori strains were isolated from antral biopsies by culture and confirmed by the rapid urease-test and gram staining. Antibiotic susceptibility of H. pylori isolates was determined by E-test.RESULTS: A total of 121 H. pylori strains were isolated, 50 from male and 71 from female patients. Data showed that 44% (n = 53), 20% (n = 24), 5% (n = 6), and 3% (n = 4) of all strains were resistant to the antibiotics metronidazole, amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and tetracycline, respectively. When the antibiotics were considered together we found 11 sensitivity patterns for the strains. Resistance to metronidazole was significantly higher in female than in male patients (P < 0.05). In about 71% of the metronidazole-resistant isolates, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) exceeded 256 μg/mL.CONCLUSION: We found a moderate rate of primary resistance to metronidazole. However, a high MIC (> 256 mg/L) which was found in 71% of the isolates is considerable. In the case of amoxicillin, an increased resistance rate of 20% is worrying. Resistance to clarithromycin and tetracycline is also emerging among the H. pylori strains in our region.展开更多
