This research develops a comprehensive method to solve a combinatorial problem consisting of distribution system reconfiguration, capacitor allocation, and renewable energy resources sizing and siting simultaneously a...This research develops a comprehensive method to solve a combinatorial problem consisting of distribution system reconfiguration, capacitor allocation, and renewable energy resources sizing and siting simultaneously and to improve power system's accountability and system performance parameters. Due to finding solution which is closer to realistic characteristics, load forecasting, market price errors and the uncertainties related to the variable output power of wind based DG units are put in consideration. This work employs NSGA-II accompanied by the fuzzy set theory to solve the aforementioned multi-objective problem. The proposed scheme finally leads to a solution with a minimum voltage deviation, a maximum voltage stability, lower amount of pollutant and lower cost. The cost includes the installation costs of new equipment, reconfiguration costs, power loss cost, reliability cost, cost of energy purchased from power market, upgrade costs of lines and operation and maintenance costs of DGs. Therefore, the proposed methodology improves power quality, reliability and security in lower costs besides its preserve, with the operational indices of power distribution networks in acceptable level. To validate the proposed methodology's usefulness, it was applied on the IEEE 33-bus distribution system then the outcomes were compared with initial configuration.展开更多

This paper presents a variable step-down conversion ratio switched capacitor (SC) DC-DC converter to advance the converter efficiency of charge on the stored capacitor in a wireless monitoring system of orthopedic implants. The converter is designed to work at 1 MHz switching frequency and achieves 15 to 2 V conversion. Measurement results show that the converter efficiency can reach 42% including all circuit power consumption, which is much higher than previous work.展开更多

This article discusses the idea of an energy capacitor system (ECS) which regulates the power balance in a distribution system based on Multi-Agent System (MAS). Energy Capacitor system as a storage device plays the main role to control the system’s power quality by absorbing the fluctuations. Load Following Operation (LFO) process and coordination control scheme between the ECS and diesel generator have been introduced. Results show the efficient utilization of the ECS based on a special index defined in this paper to evaluate the power fluctuations in the distribution system. The results also show the useful implementation of the control scheme by revealing the capability of keeping the ECS stored energy in the specified range.展开更多
This study describes the hypothetical approach to system design to collect and store electrical energy present in a flash of lightning.The system’s operations include the attraction and handling of the electrical cha...This study describes the hypothetical approach to system design to collect and store electrical energy present in a flash of lightning.The system’s operations include the attraction and handling of the electrical charge obtained from lightning flashes.Performance differences arise from three different dielectric materials(rutile,mica and quartz)and the results define the estimated response of the storage system,including charge storage.All the results in this article were obtained through simulation or demonstrated mathematically showing the estimated outcomes of the system.The findings demonstrate that each dielectric material has its own advantages and disadvantages that influence the efficiency of the storage system.Through analysing the distinction of the three materials,it is observed that mica is the most suitable dielectric material,as it has the greatest dielectric strength,which is the main factor in the handling of charge.展开更多

The investigated hybrid energy storage topologies are an energy optimized lithium-ion battery (HE) in combination with an Electrical Double-Layer Capacitor (EDLC) system, in combination with a power optimized lithium-ion battery (HP) system or in combination with a Lithium-ion Capacitor (LiCap) system, that act as a Peak Power System. From the simulation results it was observed that hybridization of the HE lithium-ion based energy storage system resulted from the three topologies in an increased overall energy efficiency of the RESS, in an extended all electric range of the PHEV and in a reduced average current through the HE battery. The lowest consumption during the three driving cycles was obtained for the HE-LiCap topology, where fuel savings of respectively 6.0%, 10.3% and 6.8% compared with the battery stand-alone system were achieved. The largest extension of the range was achieved for the HE-HP configuration (17% based on FTP-75 driving cycle). HP batteries however have a large internal resistance in comparison to EDLC and LiCap systems, which resulted in a reduced overall energy efficiency of the hybrid RESS. Additionally, it was observed that the HP and LiCap systems both offer significant benefits for the integration of a peak power system in the drivetrain of a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle due to their low volume and weight in comparison to that of the EDLC system.展开更多

In these systems, when induction electrical machine suddenly brakes, a great package of energy is produced. This package of energy can be stored in energy storage devices such as battery, ultra-capacitor and flywheel. In this paper, an electrical topology is proposed to absorb regenerative braking energy and to store it in ultracapacitor and battery.Ultra-capacitor can deliver the stored energy to DC grid and charge the battery for auxiliary applications such as lighting and cooling systems The proposed system is modeled based on large signal averaged modeling, which leads to the simplicity of calculations. The control system is based on Lyapunov stability theorem which guarantees system stability. Also, an energy management algorithm is proposed to control energy under braking and steady-state conditions. Finally,the simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed control and energy management system.展开更多
