The results showed that BD could prevent the deposition of the Co-Ni alloy. The effect of BD concentration in the sulfate plating bath, on the structure of the Co-Ni deposit was studied by energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffraction, respectively. As a result, BD could smoothen the deposit surface and decrease the diameter of the grain, but too much of BD was not good for the size of the grain. In general, a hexagonal close-packed (hcp) phase of the Co-Ni alloy, with a preferentially oriented (110) plane, was prepared by electrodeposition in the presence of BD. The Co-Ni alloy as a catalyst for the electro-oxidation of ethanol in alkaline medium was investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The deposit plated from the bath containing BD possessed better electro-oxidation of ethanol performance compared with that of the deposit plated from only the sulfate plating bath, but too much of BD was not beneficial for catalytic activity. The Co-Ni film was suitable as a magnetic recording material.展开更多

After annealing at 350 ℃, the effective mag- netic anisotropy density (Kef0 for Ta(3)/Pt(2)/[Co(0.3)/ Ni(0.6)/Au(0.3)]× 3/Co(0.3)/Pt(1)/Ta(3) (in nm) keeps at 0.48 × 105 J·m^-3. Scanning transmission electron micro- scopy-high-angle annular dark field (STEM-HAADF) analysis shows that the diffusion between Ni and Co layers is obstructed by the Au insertion layers among them, which is responsible for the post-annealing stability enhancement of the multilayers. Multilayers with Pt insertion layers were also investigated as reference samples in this work. Com- pared with Pt-layer-inserted Co/Ni multilayers, the Au insertion layers are found to bring seldom interfacial PMA to the multilayers, making it competitive in being employed to enhance the post-annealing stability of PMA Co/Ni multilayers which are used for magnetic random access memory devices (MRAM).展开更多

As-quenched sample was found to have elongated prior austenite grain(PAG) and coarse lenticular martensitic structure. On the other hand, heat-treated sample was observed to have fine lenticular martensitic structure due to fine PAG size and a lot of nano-sized carbides. Also, after heat treatment, nano-scale reverted austenite film was formed at the martensite interfaces. The heat-treated sample showed 2.47 GPa superior tensile strength and superior elongation of about 12 %. The high strength was mainly due to fine block size and high number density of nano-sized carbides. The average value of plane strain fracture toughness(KIC) was 29.3 MPa m1/2, which indicated a good fracture toughness even with the high tensile strength. The tensile fracture surface was observed to have ductile fracture mode(cup-and-cone) and the formation of about ~1 μm ultra-fine dimples. In addition to this, nano-sized carbides were observed within the dimples. The findings suggested that the nano-sized carbide had a positive effect not only on the strength but also on the ductility of the alloy. The fractured surface after toughness test, also showed ductile fracture mode with a lot of dimples. Based on the above results, correlation among microstructural evolution, deformation and fracture mechanisms along the heat-treatment was also discussed.展开更多

The local density of states (LOOS) of alloying elements in the steel displays the relationship between solid solubility and the shape of the LDOS. The bond order integral (BOI) between atoms in the steel shows that the directional bonding of the p orbital of Si or C leads to the brittleness of the steel. At last, ΣBOI between atoms demonstrate that C, Co, Mn, Cr, Mo, Si strengthen the alloyed steel through solid-solution effects.展开更多

In this letter, Co-Ni alloys were produced by PCD, and theeffect of CO+2 ion concentration in the depositing baths on the Co content and the microstruc-ture in the corresponding deposit was studied by the position sensitive atom probe (PoSAP),TEM and X-ray diffraction. The Co-Ni phase diagram shows that, at room temperature, there are two phases in Co-Ni alloys, one is εCo with hcp lattice, the other is αCo of fcc lat-tice. A Co-Ni alloy with a Ni content below 27% consists of single εCo, beyond 36% consistsof single αCo, in between consists of εCo + αCo. Afterwards, each sample was annealed under high magnetic field with strength up to 12 T at 623 K,what allowed compare and determine the changes in morphology and structure, before and after heat treatment. The Co/Ni bi-layered thin films were deposited onto an indium-doped tin oxide(ITO)-coated conducting glass substrate from sulfate baths with boric acid as an additive. The results show drastic changes in the morphology between macro and nano-scaled films which were strongly affected by an introduction of the magnetic field to the electrodeposition process. The annealing process allowed to determine the nucleus transition and showed that under the high temperature treatment it is possible to control the growth mode as well as the phase composition changes.展开更多
