Initiation and evolution of the South China Sea: an overview 被引量:27

Different models have been proposed for the formation and tectonic evolution of the South China Sea (SCS), including extrusion of the Indochina Peninsula, backarc extension, two-stage opening, proto-SCS dragging, extension induced by a mantle plume, and integrated models that combine diverse factors. Among these, the extrusion model has gained the most attention. Based on simplified physical experiments, this model proposes that collision between the Indian and Eurasian Plates resulted in extrusion of the Indochina Peninsula, which in turn led to opening of the SCS. The extrusion of the Indochina Peninsula, however, should have led to preferential open- ing in the west side of the SCS, which is contrary to observations. Extensional models propose that the SCS was a backarc basin, rifted off the South China Block. Most of the backarc extension models, however, are not compatible with observations in terms of either age or subduction direction. The two-stage extension model is based on extensional basins surrounding the SCS. Recent dating results indeed show two-stage opening in the SCS, but the Southwest Subbasin of the SCS is much younger, which contradicts the two-stage extension model. Here we pro- pose a refined backarc extension model. There was a wide Neotethys Ocean between the Australian and Eurasian Plates before the Indian-Eurasian collision. The ocean floorstarted to subduct northward at ~ 125 Ma, causing backarc extension along the southem margin of the Eurasian Plate and the formation of the proto-SCS. The Neotethys sub- duction regime changed due to ridge subduction in the Late Cretaceous, resulting in fold-belts, uplifting, erosion, and widespread unconformities. It may also have led to the subduction of the proto-SCS. Flat subduction of the ridge may have reached further north and resulted in another backarc extension that formed the SCS. The rollback of the fiat subducting slab might have occurred ~ 90 Ma ago; the second backarc extension may have initiated between 50 and 45 Ma. The opening of 展开更多

The composition of mantle-derived basalts reflects the nature of their mantle source regions,which constrain magma generation and composition.Here we present a new whole rock major and trace elements and phenocryst composition of the basaltic lava in the central Mariana Trough.These data provide insights into the mantle source characteristics affected by subduction components.The rocks range from basalts to basaltic andesites,which have high subduction-mobile element contents(e.g.,K,U,Th,LREE)related to N-MORB.The calculated temperature and depth of magma generation are about 1300℃and 30 km,respectively.Although the results above suggest that the addition of hydrous fluid and/or a melt derived from a slab decreases the temperature of mantle partial melting and mildly modifies the composition of a mantle source,the mantle source lithology from which primary magma is generated remains to be peridotite. 展开更多

During the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian,a rift was formed by post-collisional extension after ocean closure or an island arc-related basin formed by Paleo-Asian Ocean(PAO)subduction in the Xi Ujimqin area.Nevertheless,the closure time of the PAO is still under debate.Thus,to identify the origin of the PAO,the geochemistry and U-Pb age of zircons were analyzed for the extra-large deep marine,polymict clastic boulders and sandstones in the Shoushangou Formation within the basin.The analyses revealed magmatic activity and tectonic evolution.The conglomerates include megaclasts of granite(298.8±9.1 Ma)and granodiorite porphyry(297.1±3.1 Ma),which were deposited by muddy debris flow.Results of this study demonstrated that the boulders of granitoids have the geochemistry of typical I-type granite,characterized by low Zr+Nb+Ce+Y and low Ga/Al values.The granitoid boulders were formed in island arc setting,indicating the presence of arc magmatism in the area that is composed of the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian subduction-related granitoid in southern Xi Ujimqin.Multiple diagrams for determining sedimentary provenance using major and trace elements indicate that Shoushangou sediments originated from continental island arc-related felsic rocks.Detrital zircon U-Pb age cluster of 330–280 Ma was obtained,indicating input from granite,ophiolite,Xilin Gol complex,and Carboniferous sources to the south.The basin was geographically developed behind the arc during the Early Permian period because the outcropped intrusive rocks in the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian form a volcanic arc.The comprehensive analyses of source areas suggest that Shoushangou sediments developed in a backarc basin in response to the northward subduction of the PAO.The backarc basin and intrusive rocks,in addition to previously published Late Carboniferous to Early Permian magmatic rocks of arc unit in Xilin Gol,confirm the presence of an Early Permian trencharc-basin system in the region,represented by the Baolidao arc and Xi Ujimqi 展开更多

Paleoproterozoic granitoids are an important constituent of the Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt(JLJB). Paleoproterozoic granitoids are an important constituent of the Jiao-Liao-Ji Belt(JLJB). The spatial-temporal distribution and types of Paleoproterozoic granitoids are closely related to the evolution of the JLJB. In this paper, we review the field occurrence, petrography, geochronology, and geochemistry of Paleoproterozoic granitoids on Liaodong Peninsula, northeast China. The Paleoproterozoic granitoids can be divided into pre-tectonic(~2.15 Ga;peak age=2.18 Ga) and post-tectonic(~1.85 Ga) granitoids. The pre-tectonic granitoids are magnetite and hornblende-biotite monzogranites and granodiorites. Pre-tectonic monzogranites are widespread in the JLJB and have A2-type affinities. In contrast, pretectonic granodiorites are only present in the Simenzi area and have adakitic affinities. The post-tectonic granitoids consist of porphyritic monzogranite, syenite, diorite, granodiorite, quartz monzonite, monzogranite, and granitic pegmatite, which are adakitic rocks and I-, S-, and A2-type granitoids. The assemblage of pre-tectonic A2-type granitoids and adakitic rocks indicates the initial tectonic setting of the JLJB was a continental back-arc basin. The assemblage of post-tectonic adakitic rocks and I-, S-, and A2-type granitoids indicates a post-collisional setting. The 2.20-2.15 Ga A2-type granitoids and adakitic rocks were associated with the initial stage of back-arc extension, and the peak of back-arc extension is inferred from the subsequent(2.15-2.10 Ga) mafic intrusive activity. The ~1.90 Ga adakitic rocks mark the beginning of the postcollisional stage, which was followed by the intrusion of low-temperature S-and I-type granitoids. High-to low-pressure granitoids(S-type) were generated during the peak of post-collisional lithospheric delamination and asthenospheric upwelling. The emplacement of later granitic pegmatites occurred during the waning of the orogeny. 展开更多

Deciphering the relationship between polyphase tectonic foliations and their associated mineral assemblages is significant in understanding the process from diagenesis to low-/medium-/high-grade metamorphism.It can provide information related to strain,metamorphic conditions and overprinting relationships and so help reveal the tectonic evolution of orogenesis.In this study,we predominately focus on the formation of foliations and their related minerals,as developed in two separate basins.First of all,two stages of axial plane cleavages(S1 and S2)were recognized in the Hongyanjing inter-arc basin,the formation of the S1 axial plane cleavage is associated with mica rotation and elongation in mudstones in the local area.The pencil structure of S2 formed during the refolding phase,the minerals in the sedimentary rocks not changing their shape and orientation.Secondly,in the Liao-Ji backarc basin,foliations include diagenetic foliation(bedding parallel foliation),tectonic S1 foliation(secondary foliation or axial plane cleavage of S0 folding)and crenulation cleavage(S2).The formation mechanism of foliation changes from mineral rotation or elongation and mineral solution transfer in S1 to crystal-plastic deformation,dynamic recrystallization and micro-folding in S2.Many index metamorphic minerals formed from low-grade to medium-grade consist of biotites,garnets,staurolite and kyanite,constituting a typical Barrovian metamorphic belt.Accordingly,a new classification of foliation is presented in this study.The foliations can be divided into continuous and disjunctive foliations,based on the existence of microlithons,detectable with the aid of a microscope.Disjunctive foliation can be further sub-divided into spaced foliation and crenulation cleavage,according to whether(or not)crenulation(micro-folding)is present.The size of the mineral grains is also significant for classification of the foliations. 展开更多

在冲绳海槽区采用国内最新勘测的多波束数据构建高分辨率的DTM(DigitalTerrainModel),选择典型海区绘制了相应的三维海底形态图件,并在此图件基础上定量分析了冲绳海槽典型构造地貌形态:海底峡谷、海山、构造洼地和构造台地,统计分析表... 在冲绳海槽区采用国内最新勘测的多波束数据构建高分辨率的DTM(DigitalTerrainModel),选择典型海区绘制了相应的三维海底形态图件,并在此图件基础上定量分析了冲绳海槽典型构造地貌形态:海底峡谷、海山、构造洼地和构造台地,统计分析表明冲绳海槽存在近似平行和近似垂直海槽轴向两种走向的构造地貌单元。对构造地貌的成因机制进行了推测,认为菲律宾板块和欧亚板块间的相互作用是产生与海槽走向垂直的构造形态和弧后扩张的动力源,而弧后扩张则产生了沿海槽走向分布的线性海山和雁行排列的构造洼地。在中部和南部海槽这两种作用力交织在一起,产生两类海底地貌形态共存的构造格局。对目前关于冲绳海槽构造研究的几个关键问题进行了探讨,阐述并支持了冲绳海槽弧后盆地扩张成因的观点;定量估算了冲绳海槽三幕构造运动的方向、扩张量和半速率;从动力学角度阐述了沟 弧 盆体系的形成演化过程;阐述了冲绳海槽三幕构造运动的演化过程和特征:中新世的拱顶、断陷,上新世—早更新世的被动拉张,晚更新世—全新世后的主动弧后扩张。三幕构造运动的方向、特征和动力机制明显不同,运动方向的多次改变导致海槽内多种走向构造地貌的存在。近代的海槽扩张有明显活跃和加速趋势。 展开更多

位于阿拉善地块和柴达木地块之间的祁连造山带记录原特提斯洋扩张、俯冲、闭合、大陆边缘增生和碰撞造山的完整过程。从南向北,祁连造山带发育有三条平行排列、不同类型的蛇绿岩带:(1)南部南祁连洋底高原-洋中脊-弧后蛇绿岩混杂带;(2)... 位于阿拉善地块和柴达木地块之间的祁连造山带记录原特提斯洋扩张、俯冲、闭合、大陆边缘增生和碰撞造山的完整过程。从南向北,祁连造山带发育有三条平行排列、不同类型的蛇绿岩带:(1)南部南祁连洋底高原-洋中脊-弧后蛇绿岩混杂带;(2)中部托勒山洋中脊型蛇绿岩带;(3)北部走廊南山SSZ型蛇绿岩带。南部南祁连蛇绿混杂岩带以拉脊山-永靖蛇绿岩为代表,为典型的洋底高原型蛇绿岩,是大洋板内地幔柱活动的产物,形成年龄为525~500Ma;中部托勒山蛇绿岩带沿熬油沟-玉石沟-冰沟-永登一线分布,为大洋中脊型蛇绿岩,蛇绿岩形成年龄为550~495Ma;北部蛇绿岩带包括弧前和弧后两种类型,弧前蛇绿岩以大岔大阪蛇绿岩为代表,形成时代为517~487Ma,反映初始俯冲/弧前扩张到弧后盆地的过程;弧后蛇绿岩以九个泉-老虎山蛇绿岩为代表,为典型的SSZ型蛇绿岩,是弧后扩张的产物,形成时代为奥陶纪(490~445Ma)。三个蛇绿岩带分别代表了新元古代-早古生代祁连洋演化历史不同环境的产物,对了解秦祁昆构造带原特提斯洋的构造演化过程有重要意义。蛇绿岩及弧火山岩的时空分布特征限定了原特提斯洋的俯冲极性为向北消减俯冲。 展开更多

西太平洋马里亚纳俯冲带具有典型的"沟-弧-盆"体系,是由太平洋板块向西俯冲到菲律宾海板块之下形成的洋-洋俯冲带。前人研究成果为理解该区上覆板块地壳结构、弧前蛇纹岩化过程、岛弧及弧后岩浆作用、俯冲板块形态及其相关俯... 西太平洋马里亚纳俯冲带具有典型的"沟-弧-盆"体系,是由太平洋板块向西俯冲到菲律宾海板块之下形成的洋-洋俯冲带。前人研究成果为理解该区上覆板块地壳结构、弧前蛇纹岩化过程、岛弧及弧后岩浆作用、俯冲板块形态及其相关俯冲动力学过程提供了良好的约束。本文对马里亚纳地区现有研究成果,特别是构造研究内容,进行了总结,发现马里亚纳俯冲带的三维精细构造特征并没有得到很好的厘定,导致马里亚纳弧后扩张的动力学机制存在较大争议。这主要是因为缺乏观测数据以及反演方法的局限性。为此,未来围绕马里亚纳俯冲带的构造特征研究,应首先开展长期系统的海底观测。 展开更多

Based on an analysis of full-cover multi-beam bathymetric data,seismic and sub-bottom profiling data,and other geological-geophysical data sets,the geomorphologic features of the Ryukyu trench-arc-backarc(T-A-BA)system are delineated,and a geomorphologic map of the system is compiled.The re-sults show that the evolution and spatial distribution patterns of the geomorphologic types of the Ryukyu T-A-BA system are controlled mainly by tectonic move-ments.The tectonic geomorphologic characteristics of the Ryukyu Arc(RA) differ distinctly from those of the East China Sea(ECS) continental shelf and slope.In term of geological structures,RA consists of the Tokara volcanic ridge,the Ryukyu folded ridge,the fore-arc accre-tion-wedge ridge and the Amami Depression and the fore-arc depressions between the ridges,which is com-posed of a complex of alternating island-slope ridges and fault basins.The slope of the ECS is a passive continental margin with stepwise faults.The Okinawa Trough (OT)is a backarc rift in which tectonic movements are inten-sive,with active volcanic and hydrothermjal eruptions and sea floor spreading.The development of geomorphic features of the OT is controlled by the central en echelon spreading axes,the faults along the ECS slope and the marginal faults to the west of the Tokara vol-canic ridge.The geomorphic complex of the OT is ar-ranged in the following pattern:the en echelon grabens and volcanic chains formed by rifting and spreading lie in the central part of the trough,the turbidite plains inclining eastwards-southeastwards from the slope foot of the ECS lie in the western-northwestern parts of the OT,and the volcaniclastic deposit plains inclining westward-northwestwards from the western slope foot of the RA lie in the eastern-southeastern parts of the OT. In term of tectonic geomorphology,the OT forms a natural division between the shelf of the ECS and the RA. 展开更多
