In Confucian ethics,the idea of "wu lun"(five types of human relations)serves as the scaffolding for the whole moral system.As the guideline for moral cultivation,the conception of wu lun is intended to regu...In Confucian ethics,the idea of "wu lun"(five types of human relations)serves as the scaffolding for the whole moral system.As the guideline for moral cultivation,the conception of wu lun is intended to regulate interpersonal relationships and maintain good social customs.The origin of this idea can be traced back to the pre-Qin periods,while its more sophisticated form appeared in Han Dynasty thanks to the philosophical elaborations by the Confucians in the Dynasty.In the following two thousand years,this Confucian idea has been playing an important role in the social life of Chinese people as a cardinal value of the moral code.With the modernization of China and the decline of traditional Chinese culture,wu lun and other Confucian values were challenged,subverted and even consigned to oblivion.After the social changes and the influx of ideas in the past over one hundred years,especially the recent development that has taken place in less than two decades,the idea of wu lun,along with other central values of Chinese culture calls for re-evalutions and re-interpretations.展开更多
