As an artificial intelligence technology-driven natural language processing tool, ChatGPT has performed exceptionally well in the translation of general texts. However, when applied to texts of specific genres and cultural backgrounds, there is still room for improvement in the quality of the translations. Therefore, this paper takes Yang Xianyi’s translation of the classic literary work A Dream in Red Mansions as an example, and conducts a comparative study on the material culture-loaded words in the translation from the perspectives of accuracy, readability, and cultural conveyance. Based on the research findings, suggestions are proposed for the translation work of classical literary works and their post-translation editing.展开更多
