Introduced in this paper is an investigation of the Dan people and their folk customs and culture in Shanwei area from anthropological and sociological perspectives.It consists of six sections: the origin and distribu...Introduced in this paper is an investigation of the Dan people and their folk customs and culture in Shanwei area from anthropological and sociological perspectives.It consists of six sections: the origin and distribution, the folklore concerning their living,dress and personal adornment,marriage,belief and Dan folk songs.The author discusses the characteristics and changes of the Dan folklore respectively in two separate phases--before 1949 and after 1949.The folk customs and culture of the Dan community are closely linked with the livelihood on the sea and characterized by proto_culture with the livelihood on the sea and characterized by proto_culture with moderate changing rate before China’s 1949 Liberation,while afterwards Dan people experienced a great shock on their folklore because of political and economic factors.With constant adjustment of its pace,the customs and culture are gradually assimilating to those of the surrounding communities.展开更多
