The “New Food Regulation”formulated by European Union stipulated that all foods with a detectable GM ingredient should carry a mandatory label.But many countries such as the United States opposed the policy of a mandatory label and argued that there were no evidences of specific health hazards for the GM foods, and the regulation was a trade restriction substantially. The concept of “substantially equivalent”was put forward by OECD for the safety of GM foods. The safety issues of GM foods have hindered the development of biotechnological industries in some degrees. To remove the suspicion of the public toward GM foods, the uncertainty of safety for GM foods must be solved by means of scientific research.展开更多
