It is employed in semantic web services technologies to describe the meanings of services so that they can be dynamically searched for and composed according to their meanings. It is essential for dynamic service discovery, composition, and invocation. Whether an ontology is well constructed has a tremendous impact on the accuracy of the semantic description of a web service, the complexity of the semantic definitions, the efficiency of processing messages passed between services, and the precision and recall rates of service retrieval from service registrations. However, measuring the quality of an ontology remains an open problem. Works on the evaluation of ontologies do exist, but they are not in the context of semantic web services. This paper addresses this problem by proposing a quality model of ontology and defining a set of metrics that enables the quality of an ontology to be measured objectively and quantitatively in the context of semantic descriptions of web services. These metrics cover the contents, presentation, and usage aspects of ontologies. The paper also presents a tool that implements these metrics and reports a case study on five real-life examples of web services.展开更多

In this environment, one way to minimize threats is to use reputation evaluation, which can be computed, for example, through transaction feedback. However, the current feedback-based approach is inaccurate and ineffective because of its inner limitations (e.g., feedback quality problem). As the main source of feedback, the qualities of existing on-line reviews are often varied greatly from low to high, the main reasons include: (1) they have no standard expression formats, (2) dishonest comments may exist among these reviews due to malicious attacking. Up to present, the quality problem of review has not been well solved, which greatly degrades their importance on service reputation evaluation. Therefore, we firstly present a novel evaluation approach for review quality in terms of multiple metrics. Then, we make a further improvement in service reputation evaluation based on those filtered reviews. Experimental results show the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed approach compared with the naive feedback-based approaches.展开更多

Although OWL-S has given semantics to concepts by ontology technology, it gives no semantics to control-flow and data-flow. This paper presents a formal semantics framework for OWL-S sub-set, including its abstraction, syntax, static and dynamic seman-tics by rewrite logic. Details of a consistent transformation from OWL-S SOS of control-flow to corresponding rules and equations, and dataflow semantics including “Precondition”, “Result” and “Binding” etc. are explained. This paper provides a possibility for formal verification and reliability evaluation of software based on SOA.展开更多
