It is highly necessary to examine and conduct a textual research both for the sake of the poets themselves and for the sake of academic studies. The following are important cases: (1) Fang Wen, who died in the winter of 1699 (around the tenth month by the Chinese lunar calendar). In the poem he wrote before his death was mentioned the "tenth month". Therefore, it is incorrect to state in an article by Pan Jiang that Fang died in the autumn of 1699. (2) Ye Xie, the biography about whom said that he went out for a tour in 1702 and died at home in the following year (namely, 1703). But Deng Zhicheng and Yuan Xingyun stated in their monographs that Ye died in 1702, for they both missed the "following year" in the biography. (3) Dong Yining and Dong Dalun as father and son, who were born in 1629 and 1666 respectively. But in his monograph Chen Youqing mistook the son’s year of birth for the father’s. (4) Zhou Shimo, whose year of birth was 1670, according to his friend Chen Weisong. But the work compiled by Li Lingnian and Yang Zhong failed to specify it. (5) Wu Li, who died in 1718 at the age of 87. But it is wrong to state either the age of 86 or of 88, according to the inscription on his tombstone. (6) Zhao Yu, who was born in 1635 and died in 1713 according to the biography written by his friend Zhang Yunzhang. But Deng Zhicheng has not been clear about this fact yet in his work. And Yuan Xingyun said in his work that Zhao died in 1712, which is not correct at all. Correction and additional remarks are needed. (7) Chen Cong, who was born in 1761 according to his own written record. But neither Li Lingnian and Yang Zhong nor Ke Yuchun have known Chen’s year of birth, as seen from their respective works. It is important to study and verify the years of birth and death and related problems, which is indispensable to the research on the Qing Dynasty poetr展开更多
