It is shown that buildings that were sei...A field damage survey of 1,005 buildings damaged by the Wenchuan Earthquake in Dujiangyan City was carried out and the resulting data was analyzed using the statistical method. It is shown that buildings that were seismically designed achieved the desired seismic fortification target; they sustained less damage than the non-seismically designed buildings. Among the seismically designed buildings investigated, RC frame buildings performed the best in terms of seismic resistance. Masonry buildings with a ground story of RC frame structure were the second best, and masonry buildings performed the worst. Considering building height, multistory buildings sustained more severe damage than high-rise buildings and 2- and 3-story buildings. Compared to residential buildings, public buildings, such as schools and hospitals, suffered more severe damage.展开更多
The Ludian County of Yunnan Province in southwestern China was struck by an Ms6.5 earthquake on August 3, 2014, which was another destructive event following the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, Ms7.1 Yushu earthqua...The Ludian County of Yunnan Province in southwestern China was struck by an Ms6.5 earthquake on August 3, 2014, which was another destructive event following the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, Ms7.1 Yushu earthquake in 2010, and Ms7.0 Lushan earthquake in 2013. National Strong-Motion Observation Network System of China collected 74 strong motion recordings, which the maximum peak ground acceleration recorded by the 053LLT station in Longtoushan Town was 949 cm/s2 in E-W component. The observed PGAs and spectral ordinates were compared with ground-motion prediction equation in China and the NGA-West2 developed by Pacific Earthquake Engineering Researcher Center. This earthquake is considered as the first case for testing applicability of NGA-West2 in China. Results indicate that the observed PGAs and the 5 % damped pseudo-response spectral accelerations are significantly lower than the pre- dicted ones. The field survey around some typical strong motion stations verified that the earthquake damage was consistent with the official isoseismal by China Earthquake Administration.展开更多

A large number of strong motion recordings were acc...The Ms7.0 Lushan earthquake on April 20, 2013 is another destructive event in China since the Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 and Ms7.1 Yushu earth- quake in 2010. A large number of strong motion recordings were accumulated by the National Strong Motion Obser- vation Network System of China. The maximum peak ground acceleration (PGA) at Station 51BXD in Baoxing Country is recorded as -1,005.3 cm/s2, which is even larger than the maximum one in the Wenchuan earthquake. A field survey around three typical strong motion stations confirms that the earthquake damage is consistent with the issued map of macroseismic intensity. For the oscillation period 0.3-1.0 s which is the common natural period range of the Chinese civil building, a comparison shows that the observed response spectrums are considerably smaller than the designed values in the Chinese code and this could be one of the reasons that the macroseismic intensity is lower than what we expected despite the high amplitude of PGAs. The Housner spectral intensities from 16 stations are also basically correlated with their macroseismic intensities, and the empirical distribution of spectral intensities from Lushan and Wenchuan Earthquakes under the Chinese scale is almost identical with those under the European scale.展开更多
To analyze the effect of energy conservation policies on energy consumption of residential buildings, the characteristics of energy consumption and indoor thermal comfort were investigated in detail in Tianjin, China,...To analyze the effect of energy conservation policies on energy consumption of residential buildings, the characteristics of energy consumption and indoor thermal comfort were investigated in detail in Tianjin, China, based on official statistical yearbook and field survey data. A comprehensive survey of 305 households indicates that the mean electricity consumption per household is 3215kWh/a, in which annual cooling electricity consumption is 344kWh/a, and the mean natural gas consumption for cooking is 103.2m3/a. Analysis of 3966 households data shows that space heating average intensity of residential buildings designed before 1996 is 133.7kWh/(m^2.a), that of buildings designed between 1996 and 2004 is 117.2 kWh/(m^2.a), and that of buildings designed after 2004 is 105.0kWh/(m^2.a). Apparently, enhancing the performance of envelops is effective in reducing space heating intensity. Furthermore, the results of questionnaires show that 18% of the residents feel slightly warm and hot respectively, while 3% feel slightly cold in winter. Therefore, the electricity consumption in summer will rise for meeting indoor thermal comfort.展开更多
The 21 cm intensity mapping(IM)technique provides us with an efficient way to observe the cosmic large-scale structure(LSS).From the LSS data,one can use the baryon acoustic oscillation and redshift space distortion t...The 21 cm intensity mapping(IM)technique provides us with an efficient way to observe the cosmic large-scale structure(LSS).From the LSS data,one can use the baryon acoustic oscillation and redshift space distortion to trace the expansion and growth history of the universe,and thus measure the dark energy parameters.In this paper,we make a forecast for cosmological parameter estimation with the synergy of three 21 cm IM experiments.Specifically,we adopt a novel joint survey strategy,FAST(0<z<0.35)+SKA1-MID(0.35<z<0.8)+HIRAX(0.8<z<2.5),to measure dark energy.We simulate the 21 cm IM observations under the assumption of excellent foreground removal.We find that the synergy of three experiments could place quite tight constraints on cosmological parameters.For example,it providesσ(?m)=0.0039 andσ(H0)=0.27 km s^(-1) Mpc^(-1) in theΛCDM model.Notably,the synergy could break the cosmological parameter degeneracies when constraining the dynamical dark energy models.Concretely,the joint observation offersσ(w)=0.019 in the wCDM model,andσ(w0)=0.085 andσ(wa)=0.32 in the w0waCDM model.These results are better than or equal to those given by CMB+BAO+SN.In addition,when the foreground removal efficiency is relatively low,the strategy still performs well.Therefore,the 21 cm IM joint survey strategy is promising and worth pursuing.展开更多
