We investigate the guiding modes of spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on a symmetric ultra-thin plasmonic structure. We investigate the guiding modes of spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on a symmetric ultra-thin plasmonic structure. From the analysis, we deduce the operating frequency region of the single-mode propagation. Based on this property, a spoof SPPs lowpass filter is then constituted in the microwave frequency. By introducing a transmission zero at the lower frequency band using a pair of stepped-impedance stubs, a wide passband filter is further realized. The proposed filter is fed by.a transducer composed of a microstrip line with a flaring ground. The simulated results show that the presented filter has an extremely wide upper stopband in addition to excellent passband filtering characteristics such as low loss, wide band, and high square ratio. A prototype passband filter is also fabricated to validate the predicted performances. The proposed spoof-SPPs filter is believed to be very promising for other surface waveguide components in microwave and terahertz bands. 展开更多

In optics, SPPs modes can effectively confine electromagnetic waves at the interface between metal and dielectric, providing extremely high sensitivity. New interesting WGM phenomena will emerge when the WGM is combined with the SPPs. In this paper, a cogwheel resonator based on spoof SPPs was designed, which can generate multi-order WGM modes. The transmission coefficients, dispersion relations and resonance modes of the WGM resonator were analyzed. The proposed resonator extends the WGM mode from optical band to microwave band, providing a new perspective for the applications of WGM mode at microwave band. </div> 展开更多

从平面电介质-金属薄膜-电介质对称结构中表面等离激元的色散方程出发,建立模型推导得到了同轴电介质-金属薄膜-电介质结构中表面等离激元的色散方程,在这种结构中各阶模式都发生了分裂,形成了高折射率高损耗和低折射率低损耗的两种模式... 从平面电介质-金属薄膜-电介质对称结构中表面等离激元的色散方程出发,建立模型推导得到了同轴电介质-金属薄膜-电介质结构中表面等离激元的色散方程,在这种结构中各阶模式都发生了分裂,形成了高折射率高损耗和低折射率低损耗的两种模式,该模型为理解同轴电介质-金属薄膜-电介质结构表面等离激元模式的传播提供了直观的图像。用色散方程计算了0.5~1.5μm波长范围内各阶模式的等效折射率以及传输损耗,并将该结果与有限元方法数值模拟得到的结果进行对比分析,分析表明,两者吻合得很好。并分析了计算结果以及色散方程的适用范围。 展开更多

Surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs) are evanescent waves propagating along metal-dielectric interfaces, which provide an effective way to realize optical wave guiding with subwavelength confinement. Metallic nanostructures supporting SPPs,that is, plasmonic waveguides, are considered as required components to construct nanophotonic devices and circuits with a high degree of miniaturization and integration. In this paper, various types of plasmonic waveguides operating in the visible, infrared, and terahertz regions are reviewed, and the status of the research on their fundamentals, fabrications,and applications is provided as well. First, we discuss the mechanisms of SPPs beyond the diffraction limit, and their launching methods. Then, the characteristics of SPPs on various plasmonic waveguides are reviewed, including top-down and bottom-up fabricated types. Considering applications, certain prototypes of plasmonic devices and circuits constructed by plasmonic waveguides for bio/chemo sensing, router, and light modulation are demonstrated. Finally, a summary and future outlook of plasmonic waveguides are given. 展开更多
