The arbitrary Lagrange-Euler (ALE) kinematic description is introduced into the control equations system. The discrete numerical equations of finite element method are developed by Galerkin weighted residual method. The boundary condition about free-surface tension is represented in the form of weak integration that can be computed by our dif- ferential geometry method derived. The normal vec- tor on free surface is calculated by using accurate formula presented in this paper. The numerical computations are performed and the comparison not only between numerical results and analytical results but also between numerical results and experimental results validated the effectiveness of the method. Finally, large amplitude sloshing of three-dimensional liquid in low-gravity environment is simulated and some important nonlinear characteristics are ob- tained. From the numerical results, it is concluded that the character of nonlinear sloshing of the liquid under low-gravity environment is much different from that of the liquid sloshing under normal gravity envi- ronment.展开更多

The magnitude of these waves depends mainly on the geometrical and kinematical parameters of the convoy, such as the speed and the hull geometry. The objective of this study is to predict the relationship between these geometrical and kinematical parameters and the amplitude of ship-generated waves as well as the water plane drawdown. Numerical simulations are conducted by solving the 3-D Navier-Stokes equations along with the standard k-c model for turbulent processes. The results are compared first with the empirical model and second with experimental measurements performed by the French company Compagnie National du Rhone (CNR).展开更多

The observed GPS velocity field and gravity field in Yushu areas are disturbed by the coand post-seismic effects induced by Yushu earthquake, thus the theoretical coand post-seismic deformation and gravity changes will provide important modification for the background tectonic movement of Yushu and surrounding regions. The time relaxation results show that the influences of Yushu earthquake on Yushu and surrounding areas will last as long as 30 to 50 years. The maximum horizontal displacement, vertical uplift and settlement are about 1.96, 0.27 and 0.16 m, respectively, the maximal positive and negative value of gravity changes are 8.892×10-7 m·s-2 and -4.861×10-7 m·s-2 , respectively. Significant spatial variations can be found on the coand post-seismic effects: The co-seismic effect mainly concentrates in the region near the rupture fault, while viscoelastic relaxation mostly acts on the far field. Therefore, when using the geodetic data to research tectonic motion, we should not only consider the effect of co-seismic caused by earthquake, but also pay attention to the effect of viscoelastic relaxation.展开更多

This paper takes a simple case of a cube for instance, investigates the dynamics of a particle on the surface of a rotating homogeneous cube, and derives fruitful results. Due to the symmetrical characteristic of the cube, the analysis includes motions on two different types of surfaces. For each surface, both the frictionless and friction cases are considered. (i) Without consideration of friction, the surface equilibria in both of the different surfaces are examined and periodic orbits are derived. The analysis of equilibria and periodic orbits could assist understanding the skeleton of motions on the surface of asteroids. (ii) For the friction cases, the conditions that the particle does not escape from the surface are examined. Due to the effect of the friction, there exist the equilibrium regions on the surface where the particle stays at rest, and the locations of them are found. Finally, the dust collection regions are predicted. Future work will extend to real asteroid shapes.展开更多
