A numerical simulation (on the intake process of a two-valve engine with a semi-sphere combustion chamber and a radial intake port) is provided for analysis of the velocity field and pressure field of different plane at different crank angles. The results revealed the formation of the tumble motion, the evolution of flow field parameters and the variation of tumble ratios as important information for the design of engine in-take system.展开更多

Two types of coordinate systems are stud...This paper presents a numerical model study of the propagation of water waves using the parabolic approximation of the mild slope equation in the orthogonal coordinate system. Two types of coordinate systems are studied: (a) a general form of orthogonal coordinate system and (b) the conformal system, a special form of orthogonal coordinate system. Two typical examples, namely, expanded breakwaters and a circular channel, are studied to validate the model. First, the examples are studied by use of the general orthogonal coordinates. Then the same examples are computed by use of the conformal system. The computational results show that the conformal coordinate system generally gives better predictions than the general orthogonal system. A numerical technique for generating the conformal grid is combined with the numerical model to improve the practicability of the model. The comparison between the result from the numerical grid system and that from the analytical grid system shows that reliable computational results can be obtained by use of the numerical conformal grid system.展开更多

The fluid flow is assumed to be viscous and incompressible, and the Navier-Stokes and continuity equatio...A two-dimensional (2D) numerical model is developed for the wave sim- ulation and propagation in a wave flume. The fluid flow is assumed to be viscous and incompressible, and the Navier-Stokes and continuity equations are used as the governing equations. The standard k-e model is used to model the turbulent flow. The Navier- Stokes equations are discretized using the staggered grid finite difference method and solved by the simplified marker and cell (SMAC) method. Waves are generated and propagated using a piston type wave maker. An open boundary condition is used at the end of the numerical flume. Some standard tests, such as the lid-driven cavity, the constant unidirectional velocity field, the shearing flow, and the dam-break on the dry bed, are performed to valid the model. To demonstrate the capability and accuracy of the present method, the results of generated waves are compared with available wave theories. Finally, the clustering technique (CT) is used for the mesh generation, and the best condition is suggested.展开更多
