Sea Nine 211 as antifouling biocide: A coastal pollutant of emerging concern 被引量:3

It is commercially promoted as ... Sea Nine 211, with 4,5-dichloro-2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one(DCOIT) being the biocidal ingredient, is a widely-used antifouling agent to deter the undesirable biofouling phenomenon. It is commercially promoted as an environmentally acceptable antifoulant mainly due to its claimed rapid degradation in marine environment. However, increasing researches document varying degradative kinetics in different environments, proving that Sea Nine 211 is actually not degraded equally fast around the world(half-life between〈 1 day and 13.1 days). Large-scale application of Sea Nine 211 in antifouling coatings has also caused global contamination of marine environment in various compartments. For example, accumulation of Sea Nine 211 is detected as high as 3700 ng/L in Spanish seawater and 281 ng/g dry weight in Korean sediment. Considering that Sea Nine 211 is highly toxic against non-target marine organisms, environmental risk assessment finds that most marine organisms are endangered by Sea Nine 211 in worst-case scenario. Its endocrine disrupting and reproductive impairing effects at environmentally worst-case concentrations further constitute a long-term threat to the maintenance of population stability.Therefore, in the light of the varying degradability, environmental pollution and high toxicity, especially the endocrine disruption, Sea Nine 211 as an antifouling agent is likely to cause non-negligible damages to the marine ecosystem. There is an urgency to perform a systematic ecological risk assessment of Sea Nine 211 to prevent the potential impacts on the health of marine environment. A regular monitoring also becomes necessary to place the usage of antifouling biocides under control. 展开更多

Conventional analyses of SOM are expensive and time consuming. Hyperspectral remote sensing is an alternative approach for SOM estimation. In this study, the diffuse reflectance spectra of soil samples from Qixia City, the Shandong Peninsula, China, were measured with an ASD FieldSpec 3 portable object spectrometer (Analytical Spectral Devices Inc., Boulder, USA). Raw spectral reflectance data were transformed using four methods: nine points weighted moving average (NWMA), NWMA with first derivative (NWMA + FD), NWMA with standard normal variate (NWMA + SNV), and NWMA with min-max standardization (NWMA + MS). These data were analyzed and correlated with SOM content. The evaluation model was established using support vector machine regression (SVM) with sensitive wavelengths. The results showed that NWMA + FD was the best of the four pretreatment methods. The sensitive wavelengths based on NWMA + FD were 917, 991, 1 007, 1 996, and 2 267 nm. The SVM model established with the above-mentioned five sensitive wavelengths was significant ( R 2 = 0.875, root mean square error (RMSE) = 0.107 g kg −1 for calibration set;R 2 = 0.853, RMSE = 0.097 g kg −1 for validation set). The results indicate that hyperspectral remote sensing can quickly and accurately predict SOM content in the brown forest soil areas of the Shandong Peninsula. This is a novel approach for rapid monitoring and accurate diagnosis of brown forest soil nutrients. 展开更多

Yang Hui was one of the most important authors of mathematical works during the thirteenth century.Mathematical Methods Explaining in Detail The Nine Chapters(Xiangjie jiuzhang suanfa詳解九章算法,1261 CE)is the earliest extant work attributed to Yang Hui.From the thirteenth to the fifteenth century,this work played a crucial role in the circulation and popularization of The Nine Chapters on Mathematical Procedures(Jiuzhang suanshu九章算术).However,the only surviving printed edition of Mathematical Methods is incomplete and contains many mistakes obstructing contemporary researchers'understanding of this work.The "Fangcheng" chapter of The Nine Chapters deals with problems related to solving what today are known as simultaneous sets of linear equations.However,interpreting the text in this chapter of Mathematical Methods and recovering the mathematical practices relating to fangcheng are difficult.Through detailed textual and mathematical analyses,the author of this paper explains Yang Hufs understanding and practice relating to〃the fangcheng method"and"the method of the positive and the negative".This paper includes an appendix that provides a detailed translation of the ambiguous text relating to"the method of the positive and the negative"and gives reasons supporting the interpretation provided here.Yang Hufs understanding of the concepts of"positive"and"negative"and his practice relating to these two concepts may easily be confused with their apparent counterparts in modem mathematics.Also,careful analysis of the mathematical methods in this work reveal that the order of problems in Yang Hufs Reclassifications of Mathematical Methods Explaining in Detail The Nine Chapters([Xiangjie jiuzhang suanfa zuanlei詳解九章算法纂類],namely,the last section of Mathematical Methods)were rearranged according to commentaries to specific methods that appear in Mathematical Methods.Some textual clues referring to the zzprevious question"(qianwen前問)in certain commentaries of Mathematical Methods indeed r 展开更多

Since acupuncture came to western countries,research has been done to try and prove whether or not it is effective.Current Acupuncture research is most often based on the sham needle which was first designed by K Streitberger and J Kleinhenz in 1998.The sham acupuncture needles are developed for the control group and do not penetrate the skin.Sham acupuncture has been used in randomized controlled trial(RCT) for diseases which normally benefit from acupuncture treatment.The sham needle is not the best placebo needle though.Because of the use of sham acupuncture,the result of those research shows acupuncture having no effect or it shows there is no significant difference between real acupuncture(verum) and sham acupuncture(placebo).However,a detailed introduction of the Nine Classical Needles(ancient) and the Nine Modern Needles(SHI's nine needles) shows that the use of sham acupuncture in RCT research is flawed by design.This then casts doubt on the findings and conclusions reached by using sham acupuncture in RCT acupuncture research. 展开更多

In the construction of nine point scheme, both vertex unknowns and cell-centered unknowns are introduced, and the vertex unknowns are usually eliminated by using the interpolation of neighboring cell-centered unknowns, which often leads to lose accuracy. Instead of using interpolation, here we propose a different method of calculating the vertex unknowns of nine point scheme, which are solved independently on a new generated mesh. This new mesh is a Vorono? mesh based on the vertexes of primary mesh and some additional points on the interface. The advantage of this method is that it is particularly suitable for solving diffusion problems with discontinuous coefficients on highly distorted meshes, and it leads to a symmetric positive definite matrix. We prove that the method has first-order convergence on distorted meshes. Numerical experiments show that the method obtains nearly second-order accuracy on distorted meshes. 展开更多

Our suggested model is based on our experience at the computer engineering departments at AL-Hussein Bin Talal University, the University of Jordan and Albalqa Applied University. We applied the recommendations of the nine steps methodology to the e-learning environment. The V model suggested in this paper came up as a result of such application. Large eddy simulation (LES) using the Smagorinsky eddy viscosity model is added to the two-dimensional nine velocity components (D2Q9) lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) with multi-relaxation-time (MRT) to simulate incompressible turbulent cavity flows with the Reynolds numbers up to 1 × 10^7. To improve the computation efficiency of LBM on the numerical simulations of turbulent flows, the massively parallel computing power from a graphic processing unit (GPU) with a computing unified device architecture (CUDA) is introduced into the MRT-LBE-LES model. The model performs well, compared with the results from others, with an increase of 76 times in computation efficiency. It appears that the higher the Reynolds numbers is, the smaller the Smagorinsky constant should be, if the lattice number is fixed. Also, for a selected high Reynolds number and a selected proper Smagorinsky constant, there is a minimum requirement for the lattice number so that the Smagorinsky eddy viscosity will not be excessively large. 展开更多

If derivative is introduced, the ancient Chinese algorithm reduces to the Newton method.
