Different from conventional cellular networks, a maritime communication base station(BS) has to cover a much wider area due to the limitation of available BS sites. Accordingly the performance of users far away from the BS is poor in general. This renders the fairness among users a challenging issue for maritime communications. In this paper, we consider a practical massive MIMO maritime BS with hybrid digital and analog precoding. Only the large-scale channel state information at the transmitter(CSIT) is considered so as to reduce the implementation complexity and overhead of the system. On this basis, we address the problem of fairness-oriented precoding design. A max-min optimization problem is formulated and solved in an iterative way. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme performs much better than conventional hybrid precoding algorithms in terms of minimum achievable rate of all the users, for the typical three-ray maritime channel model. 展开更多

Due to the rapid development of the maritime networks, there has been a growing demand for computation-intensive applications which have various energy consumption, transmission bandwidth and computing latency requirements. Mobile edge computing(MEC) can efficiently minimize computational latency by offloading computation tasks by the terrestrial access network. In this work, we introduce a space-air-ground-sea integrated network architecture with edge and cloud computing components to provide flexible hybrid computing service for maritime service. In the integrated network, satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs) provide the users with edge computing services and network access. Based on the architecture, the joint communication and computation resource allocation problem is modelled as a complex decision process, and a deep reinforcement learning based solution is designed to solve the complex optimization problem. Finally, numerical results verify that the proposed approach can improve the communication and computing efficiency greatly. 展开更多

In the Tibetan Plateau, many glaciers have extensive covers of supraglacial debris in their ablation zones, which affects glacier response to climate change by altering ice melting and spatial patterns of mass loss. Insufficient debris thickness data make it difficult to analyze regional debris-cover effects. Maritime glaciers of the Mount Gongga have been characterized by a substantial reduction in glacier area and ice mass in recent decades. The thermal property of the debris layer estimated from remotely sensed data reveals that debris-covered glaciers are dominant in this region, on which the proportion of debris cover to total glacier area varies from 1.74% to 53.0%. Using a physically-based debris-cover effect assessment model, we found that although the presence of supraglacial debris has a significant insulating effect on heavily debris-covered glaciers, il accelerates ice melting on -10.2% of total ablation zone and produces rapid wastage of -25% of the debris-covered glaciers, leading to the similar mass losses between the debris-covered and debris-free glaciers. Widespread debris cover also facilitates the development of active terminus regions. Regional differences in debris-cover effects are apparent, highlighting the im- portance of debris cover for understanding glacier mass changes in the Tibetan Plateau and other mountain ranges around the world. 展开更多

Recently, due to the deployment flexibility of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs), UAV-assisted mobile relay communication system has been widely used in the maritime communication. However, the performance of UAV-assisted mobile relay communication system is limited by the capacity of wireless backhaul link between base station and UAV. In this paper, we consider a caching UAV-assisted decode-and-forward relay communication system in a downlink maritime communication. For the general case with multiple users, the optimal placement of UAV is obtained by solving the average achievable rate maximization problem through the one-dimensional linear search. For a special case with single user, we derive a semi closedform expression of the optimal placement of UAV. Simulation results confirm the accuracy of analytical results and show that the optimal placement of UAV and the average achievable rate significantly depend on the cache capacity at UAV. We also show the difference between the performances of the air-to-ground model and the air-to-sea model. 展开更多

The lack of communication infrastructure in the ocean inevitably leads to coverage blind zones.In addition to high-throughput marine satellites,unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)can be used to provide coverage for these blind zones along with onshore base stations.In this paper,we consider the use of UAV for maritime coverage enhancement.Particularly,to serve more ships on the vast oceanic area with limited spectrum resources,we employ non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA).A joint power and transmission duration allocation problem is formulated to maximize the minimum ship throughput,with the constraints on onboard communication energy.Different from previous works,we only assume the slowly time-varying large-scale channel state information(CSI)to reduce the system cost,as the large-scale CSI is locationdependent and can be obtained according to a priori radio map.To solve the non-convex problem,we decompose it into two subproblems and solve them in an iterative way.Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed solution. 展开更多

Especially, in case of maritime environment, as the center stage of combat has changed from ocean to coastal areas, it is difficult for the existing naval forces to effectively operate in shallow waters. Therefore, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) are being required at an increasing pace. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of already developed UUVs, which are the key unmanned system of the marine battlefield environment in the future. Through the analysis of development cases and the investigation of the essential technologies, the critical design issues of UUVs are elaborated. We developed a ... China's designation of the "21 st-century Maritime Silk Road"(MSR) region is of extraordinary significance to its maritime rights, transportation security, and socio-economic development. We developed a technical framework allowing the use of "big data" derived from the Automatic Identification System(AIS, an automatic ship-tracking network) for two purposes: the accurate mapping of oil tanker trajectories and the creation of heat maps showing the relative use of oil tanker routes and marine shipping chokepoints. We then applied these methods to 1.5 billion AIS records collected within the MSR in 2014 to statistically identify and analyze busy routes, areas, and chokepoints in this strategic region. Our results demonstrate that the proposed framework can provide an effective analysis of oil movements based on large-scale AIS datasets, helping researchers and policy makers better understand the footprint and strategic implications of maritime oil transportation in the MSR region. 展开更多
