Using the full spectrum fitting package UZySS, these spectra are reduced with single stellar population models and optimal age information from our selected sample is derived. With the decreasing age-redshift relation, four new observational H(z) data (OHD) points are obtained, which are H(z) = 69.0 ± 19.6 km s^-1 Mpc^-1 at z = 0.07, H(z) = 68.6± 26.2 km s^-1 Mpc^-1 at z = 0.12, H(z)=72.9 ± 29.6 km s^-1 Mpc^-1 at z = 0.2 and H(z)=88.8 ± 36.6 km s^-1 Mpc^-1 at z = 0.28, respectively. Combined with 21 other available OHD data points, the performance of the constraint on both flat and non-flat ACDM models is presented.展开更多

Applying the same criteria established in an earlier work, we find that, similar to IR QSOs at low redshift, the far-infrared emission of these (sub)mm-loud QSOs mainly originates from dust heated by starbursts. By combining low-z IR QSOs and high-z (sub)mm-loud QSOs, we find a trend that the star formation rate (M*) increases with the accretion rate (Mace). We compare the values of M*/Macc for submm emitting galaxies (SMGs), far-infrared ultraluminous/hypeduminous QSOs and typical QSOs, and construct a likely evolution scenario for these objects. The (sub)mm-loud QSO transition phase has both high Macc and M* and hence is important for establishing the correlation between the masses of black holes and spheroids.展开更多

It begins with a brief summary of the TDC model and contains the new derivation for the time dilation version of the formula for summing relativistic velocities, Einstein’s gravitational constant and the time dilation versions for the Lorentz factor and the Euclidean norm of the 3d velocity vector, the two of which can then be used in the Four-velocity formula. It is demonstrated how orbital curvature is manifested as the resultant of two time dilation-manifested velocities. It also explains why an interferometer cannot distinguish free fall from zero gravity and further elaborates on the author’s previous explanations of how spiral galaxies are formed, and contains mathematical proof that Black Holes are actually Magnetospheric Eternally Collapsing Objects (MECOs) that are massless spacetime vortices.展开更多

However, their γ-ray luminosity function has not been well determined. Few attempts have been made in earlier works, where BL Lacs and Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs) have been considered as a single source class. In this paper, we investigated the evolution and γ-ray luminosity function of FSRQs and BL Lacs separately. Our investigation indicates no evolution for BL Lacs, however FSRQs show significant evolution. Pure luminosity evolution is assumed for FSRQs and exponential and power law evolution models are examined. Due to the small number of sources, the low luminosity end index of the luminosity function for FSRQs is constrained with an upper limit. BL Lac luminosity function shows no signature of break. As a consistency check, the model source distributions derived from these luminosity functions show no significant departure from the observed source distributions.展开更多

Nowadays, manganese (Mn) is one of the most observed iron-peak elements in local dSphs. Studies of its distributions allow us to derive and understand the evolution history of these dSphs. We improve a phenomenological model by a two-curve model including a new initial condition, that includes detailed calculations of SN explosion rates and yields. We compare the results with the observed Mn distribution data for three dSphs: Fornax, Sculpture and Sextans. We find that the model can describe the observed Fe and Mn distributions well simultaneously for the three dSphs. The results also indicate that the initial conditions should be determined by the low metallicity sam- ples in the beginning time of the galaxies and the previous assumption of metellicity-dependant Mn yield of SNIa is not needed when a wide mass range of core-collapse SNe is included. Our method is applicable to the chemical evolution of other iron-peak elements in dSphs and can be modified to provide more detailed processes for the evolution of dSphs.展开更多

We combine galaxies with similar concentrations, sizes and luminosities to construct composite galaxies, and then measure their color profiles by stacking the azimuthally averaged radial color profiles of all the member galaxies. Except for the smallest galaxies (R50 〈 3 kpc), almost all galaxies show negative disk color gradients with mean 9 - r gradient Ggr = -0.006 magkpc-1 and r - z gradient Grz = -0.018 mag kpc^-1. The disk color gradients are independent of the morphological types of galaxies and strongly dependent on the disk surface brightness μd, with lower surface brightness galactic disks having steeper color gradients. We quantify the intrinsic correlation between color gradients and surface brightness as Ggr = -0.011μd + 0.233 and Grz - -0.015μd + 0.324. These quantified correlations provide tight observational constraints on the formation and evolution models of spiral galaxies.展开更多

Our sample is composed of 20 z850-dropouts (four new discoveries), 15 Y105-dropouts (nine new discoveries) and 20 J125-dropouts (all new discoveries). The surface densities of the Z850-dropouts are close to what was predicted by earlier studies, however, those of the Y105- and J125-dropouts are quite unexpected. While no Y105- or J125-dropouts have been found at AB ≤ 28.0 mag, their surface densities seem to increase sharply at fainter levels. While some of these candidates seem to be close to foreground galaxies and thus could possibly be gravitationally lensed, the overall surface densities after excluding such cases are still much higher than what would be expected if the luminosity function does not evolve from z ~ 7 to 10. Motivated by such steep increases, we tentatively propose a set of Schechter function parameters to describe the luminosity functions at z ≈8 and 10. As compared to their counterpart at z ≈ 7, here L^* decreases by a factor of ~ 6.5 and Ф^* increases by a factor of 17-90. Although such parameters are not yet demanded by the existing observations, they are allowed and seem to agree with the data better than other alternatives. If these luminosity functions are still valid beyond our current detection limit, this would imply a sudden emergence of a large number of low-luminosity galaxies when looking back in time to z ≈ 10, which, while seemingly exotic, would naturally fit in the picture of the cosmic hydrogen reionization. These early galaxies could easily account for the ionizing photon budget required by the reionization, and they would imply that the global star formation rate density might start from a very high value at z ≈ 10, rapidly reach the minimum at z≈ 7, and start to rise again towards z ≈ 6. In this scenario, the majority of th展开更多

We find that the two-zone color shows weak or no correlations with all galaxy properties considered except stellar mass. On average, ?(u-r) decreases with increasing stellar mass, indicating relatively red colors in galactic centers of more massive galaxies. We then compare the properties of "red-cored" and "blue-cored" galaxies, defined to have either a negative or a positive ?(u-r) respectively. Although the two types of galaxies show similar distributions in most properties, we find massive red-cored galaxies with M*> 1010.5M⊙to have larger sizes at given stellar mass(thus lower surface mass densities), and less massive red-cored galaxies with M*< 1010.5M⊙to have lower central galaxy fraction. These findings can be understood if one assumes that the star formation process happens from inside out, in the same way as recently emphasized in studies of low-z galaxies. The similarity between the galaxies at intermediate redshifts and those at low redshifts supports the idea that galaxy evolution since z~1 has been mainly driven by secular processes internal to galaxies rather than galaxy mergers or external environment.展开更多

Optical images show clear characteristics of a merger remnant. The H-band absolute magnitude is MH = -25.1, which is -2 times as luminous as L* galaxies. Stellar populations are obtained through the stellar synthesis code STARLIGHT. We find that it experienced a recent starburst (SB) phase - 100 Myr ago. By reconstructing the ultraviolet-to-optical spectrum, and adopting Calzetti et al. and Leitherer et al.'s extinction curves, we estimate the past infrared (IR) luminosities of the host galaxy and find it may have experienced an ultraluminous infrared galaxy phase which lasted for about 100 Myr. Its i-band absolute magnitude is Mi = -22.463, and its spectral type shows type 2 active galactic nucleus (AGN) characteristics. The mass of the supermassive black-hole is estimated to be MBH = 1.6 × 107 M⊙ (lower- limit). The Eddington ratio Lbol/LEdd is 0.15, which is typical of Palomar-Green (PG) quasars. Both the nuclear SB and AGN contribute to the present IR luminosity budget, and the SB contributes -67%. On the diagram of IR color versus IR/opfical excess, it is located between IR quasars and PG quasars. These results indicate that IRAS F21013-0739 has probably evolved from a ULIRG, and it can possibly evolve into an AGN.展开更多

We estimate both the auto-correlation function for galaxy samples selected by B-band absolute magnitude and stellar mass, and the cross-correlation function of galaxy samples selected by color gradient with respect to the full galaxy sample. The autocorrelation function amplitudes at fixed scale are found to positively correlate with both galaxy luminosity and stellar mass, and the effect holds for all the scales probed(0.2 h;Mpc < rp< 20 h;Mpc),in good agreement with previous measurements based on an earlier data release of VIPERS. When the stellar mass is limited to a narrow range, we find the clustering power to be essentially independent of galaxy color gradient, and this conclusion is true for all the masses and all the scales considered here. In a parallel paper, we find that the half-light radius is the only galaxy property other than stellar mass that is related to color gradient. Considering the previous finding that clustering depends weakly on galaxy structure at given mass, the non-dependence of clustering on color gradient found here reinforces our conclusion that the color gradient and structural parameters of a galaxy are intrinsically related to each other.展开更多

文摘We analyzed the relationship between several basic parameters describing supermassive black holes such as jet power, black hole spin, accretion disk magnetic field, black hole mass, etc. We found that there is a general correlation between these parameters, such as jet power is significantly positively correlated with black hole spin, while black hole mass is significantly negatively correlated with black hole spin.To apprehend these relationships,we consider the Blandford–Znajek model to be superior to the Blandford–Payne model. It is also found that the intrinsic gamma luminosity of the FSRQs has a positive correlation with the accretion disk magnetic field, while the intrinsic gamma luminosity of the BL Lacs has a negative correlation with the accretion disk magnetic field.A feedback effect may exist between accretion disk accretion rate and magnetic field, which may be the key to the evolution between BL Lacs and FSRQs.There is no significant difference in the jet power and jet generation efficiency of FSRQs and BL Lacs, which suggests that the jets are generated by the same mechanism. The contribution rate of accretion rate to jet generation efficiency is high, while the contribution rate of accretion rate to jet power is very low.

文摘We report a new high-sensitivity HⅠmapping observation of the NGC 5055 galaxy group over an area of 1°.5×0°.75 with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST).Our observation reveals that the warped HⅠdisk of NGC 5055 is more extended than what was previously observed by WSRT,out to239(61.7 kpc). The total HⅠmass of NGC 5055 is determined to be~1.1×10^(10)M_Θ.We identified three HⅠclouds with HⅠmasses of the order of~10^(7)M_Θat the southeastern edge of the HⅠdisk,as well as a candidate high-velocity cloud with an HⅠmass of(1.2±0.5)×10^(6)M_Θto the north of NGC 5055.The HⅠcontent of UGCA337 is robustly detected for the first time by the FAST observations. It has a narrow HⅠlinewidth of W_(50)=17.4±3.8 km s^(-1)with a total HⅠmass of(3.5±0.3)×10^(6)M_Θ.Comparing the gas content and g-r color of UGCA 337 with typical low-mass dwarf galaxies,UGCA 337 appears relatively gas-poor despite its blue color. This suggests that UGCA 337 may have undergone gas stripping in the past.We also analyzed the possible origin of the diffuse HⅠclouds located at the outskirts of NGC 5055,and speculate that they might be the remnant features of a merger event in the past.

文摘Superthin galaxies are observed to have stellar disks with extremely small minor-to-major axis ratios. In this work,we investigate the formation of superthin galaxies in the TNG100 simulation. We trace the merger history and investigate the evolution of galaxy properties of a selected sample of superthin galaxies and a control sample of galaxies that share the same joint probability distribution in the stellar-mass and color diagram.Through making comparisons between the two galaxy samples,we find that present-day superthin galaxies had similar morphologies as the control sample counterparts at higher redshifts, but have developed extended flat“superthin”morphologies since z~1.During this latter evolution stage, superthin galaxies undergo an overwhelmingly higher frequency of prograde mergers(with orbit-spin angleθ_(orb)≤40°).Accordingly the spins of their dark matter halos have grown significantly and become noticeably higher than those of their normal disk counterparts. This further results in the buildup of their stellar disks at larger distances much beyond the regimes of normal disk galaxies. We also discuss the formation scenario of those superthin galaxies that live in larger dark matter halos as satellite galaxies therein.

文摘We study the growth of black holes and stellar population in spheroids at high redshift using several (sub)mm-loud QSO samples. The (sub)mm-loud QSO transition phase has both high Macc and M* and hence is important for establishing the correlation between the masses of black holes and spheroids.

文摘The star-forming clumps in star-bursting dwarf galaxies provide valuable insights into understanding the evolution of dwarf galaxies. In this paper,we focus on five star-bursting dwarf galaxies featuring off-centered clumps in the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory survey.Using the stellar population synthesis software Fitting Analysis using Differential evolution Optimization,we obtain the spatially resolved distribution of the star formation history, which allows us to construct the g-band images of the five galaxies at different ages. These images can help us to probe the evolution of the morphological structures of these galaxies. While images of a stellar population older than 1 Gyr are typically smooth, images of a stellar population younger than 1 Gyr reveal significant clumps, including multiple clumps which appear at different locations and even different ages.To study the evolutionary connections of these five galaxies to other dwarf galaxies before their star-forming clumps appear,we construct the images of the stellar populations older than three age nodes, and define them to be the images of the"host"galaxies. We find that the properties such as the central surface brightness and the effective radii of the hosts of the five galaxies are in between those of dwarf ellipticals(dEs)and dwarf irregulars(dIrrs),with two clearly more similar to dEs and one more similar to dIrrs.Among the five galaxies,8257-3704 is particularly interesting,as it shows a previous starburst event that is not quite visible from its gri image, but only visible from images of the stellar population at a few hundred million years. The star-forming clump associated with this event may have appeared at around 600 Myr ago and disappeared at around 40 Myr ago.
文摘This paper is a further elaboration of the author’s Time Dilation Cosmology (TDC) holographic model that ties gravitation and celestial mechanics and kinematics directly to time dilation, resolving all the major conundrums in astrophysics, and ties astrophysics directly to quantum physics. It also explains why an interferometer cannot distinguish free fall from zero gravity and further elaborates on the author’s previous explanations of how spiral galaxies are formed, and contains mathematical proof that Black Holes are actually Magnetospheric Eternally Collapsing Objects (MECOs) that are massless spacetime vortices.
文摘Detection of γ-ray emissions from a class of active galactic nuclei (viz blazars), has been one of the important findings from the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO). As a consistency check, the model source distributions derived from these luminosity functions show no significant departure from the observed source distributions.

文摘The distribution of abundance for iron-peak elements in dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) is important for galaxy evolution and supernova (SN) nucleosynthesis. Our method is applicable to the chemical evolution of other iron-peak elements in dSphs and can be modified to provide more detailed processes for the evolution of dSphs.

文摘We analyzed the fractions of barred galaxies in the local Universe using a volume-limited sample of galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 3.We examined 116 field galaxies with redshifts between 0.0207 and 0.030,using r and z-band images.Overall, the bar fraction was 26%in the r-band and 19%in the z-band.Fo distinct morphological groups, barred spiral galaxies had fractions of 33%in the r-band and 22%in the z-band while barred lenticular galaxies had 25%in the r-band and 12%in the z-band.We observed that the bar fraction in spiral galaxies increases for stellar masses log(M*/M_(⊙))>10.5 and for galaxies with red colors(u-r)>2.0Additionally,most barred galaxies have a bulge-to-total ratio B/T≤0.2.Our results indicate that the bar fraction i more dependent on internal morphology than on the galaxy environment.

文摘Using a sample of 13 early-type spiral galaxies hosting nuclear rings,we report remarkable correlations between the properties of the nuclear rings and the central intensity ratio(CIR) of their host galaxies. The CIR,a function of intensity of light within the central 1.5 and 3 arcsec region,is found to be a vital parameter in galaxy evolution,as it shares strong correlations with many structural and dynamical properties of early-type galaxies, including mass of the central supermassive black hole(SMBH).We use archival HST images for aperture photometry at the centre of the galaxy image to compute the CIR.We observe that the relative sizes of nuclear rings and ring cluster surface densities strongly correlate with the CIR.These correlations suggest reduced star formation in the centres of galaxies hosting small and dense nuclear rings. This scenario appears to be a consequence of strong bars as advocated by the significant connection observed between the CIR and bar strengths. In addition,we observe that the CIR is closely related with the integrated properties of the stellar population in the nuclear rings, associating the rings hosting older and less massive star clusters with low values of CIR.Thus, the CIR can serve as a crucial parameter in unfolding the coupled evolution of bars and rings as it is intimately connected with both their properties.

文摘We use 1221 galaxies with unusually high gas-phase metallicity to study their physical properties. The scope of redshift is 0.02 < z < 0.25 for these galaxies with unusually high gas-phase metallicity. Our goal is to understand the physical origins of the high gas-phase metallicity. To address this study,we select a control sample matching similar redshift and stellar mass. Our main results are as follows.(i) Compared with the control sample, the high-metallicity sample shows lower ionization parameter, higher electron density and more dust content.(ii) We also find that the high-metallicity sample has older stellar age and higher [Mgb/] ratio, which indicates that the high-metallicity sample has shorter timescale of star formation.(iii) According to the plane of Hδ_A vs.D_n4000,we can see that the control sample has higher HδAand lower D_n4000 than the high-metallicity sample, which may imply that the control sample experiences recent star formation.(iv) There is a significant difference in gas distribution between the highmetallicity and control samples. The high-metallicity sample has lower gas fraction than control sample, which indicates that galaxies have high gas-phase metallicity probably due to their low HI gas fraction.(v) There is no significant difference between the high-metallicity and control samples in environment, which may suggest that the environment has no effect on gas-phase metallicity.

文摘We investigate the radial color gradients of galactic disks using a sample of - 20 000 face-on spiral galaxies selected from the fourth data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-DR4). These quantified correlations provide tight observational constraints on the formation and evolution models of spiral galaxies.

文摘We present a large sample of candidate galaxies at z ≈ 7 - 10, selected in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field using the new observations of the Wide Field Camera 3 that was recently installed on the Hubble Space Telescope. In this scenario, the majority of th

文摘We investigate the color gradients of galaxies at 0.5 < z < 1.0, using a sample of ~35 000 galaxies with both spectroscopy from the final data release of the VIMOS Public Extragalactic Redshift Survey(VIPERS), and photometry in ultraviolet/optical/near-infrared bands from the VIPERS-MultiLambda Survey(VIPERS-MLS) and the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey(CFHTLS).We estimate rest-frame colors, stellar mass, star formation rate from fitting the Spectral Energy Distribution(SED) for each galaxy, as well as a two-zone color ?(u-r), defined as the difference in rest-frame(u-r) color between the outer and inner region of the galaxy. The similarity between the galaxies at intermediate redshifts and those at low redshifts supports the idea that galaxy evolution since z~1 has been mainly driven by secular processes internal to galaxies rather than galaxy mergers or external environment.

文摘We present a stellar population synthesis study of a type II luminous infrared galaxy, IRAS F21013-0739. These results indicate that IRAS F21013-0739 has probably evolved from a ULIRG, and it can possibly evolve into an AGN.

文摘We investigate the dependence of clustering on luminosity, stellar mass and color gradient for galaxies at 0.5 < z < 1, using a sample of;300 galaxies from the final data release of the VIMOS Public Extragalactic Redshift Survey(VIPERS-PDR2). Considering the previous finding that clustering depends weakly on galaxy structure at given mass, the non-dependence of clustering on color gradient found here reinforces our conclusion that the color gradient and structural parameters of a galaxy are intrinsically related to each other.
