The yield strength of the material increased as the extrusion temperature decreased due to grain refinement. The yield strengths and grain sizes of extruded samples met Hall-Petch equation. The microstructure of the alloy extruded at 300 ℃ had a bimodal grain size distribution with an average grain size of 2.7 μm and showed a yield strength of 327 MPa with an elongation of 9%. The fine-grained microstructures were attributed to the dynamic recrystallization and the pinning effect of fine strengthening particles.展开更多

Results showed that the density of coarse Si particles played a critical role in dynamic recrystallization. Dynamic recrystallization rarely occurred in S1 alloy with less Si content; however, it happened in the Si-rich zones in S2 alloy with a medium Si content. And a mature recrystallization was observed in S3 alloy with high Si content. Although deformation was carried out at high temperature, particle-stimulated dynamic recrystallization occurred in Si-rich zones.展开更多

Results show that an ultrafine grained microstructure of AZ31 alloy is obtained only after 3 passes of CEC at 225 ℃. The mean misorientation and the fraction of high angle grain boundaries (HAGBs) increase gradually by lowering extrusion temperature. Only a small fraction of {101^-2} twinning is observed by EBSD in AZ31 Mg alloys after 3 passes of CEC. Schmid factors calculation shows that the most active slip system is pyramidal slip {101^-1}〈1120〉and basal slip {0001}〈1120〉 at 225-350 ℃ and 400 ℃, respectively. Direct evidences at subgrain boundaries support the occurrence of continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) mechanism in grain refinement of AZ31 Mg alloy processed by CEC.展开更多

The experimental results showed that after the CEF process the grains were refined to submicron-scale through dynamic recrystallization, which improved the mechanical properties of the welding joint as well as the base material. Meanwhile, the micron-scale precipitates aggregated at the grain boundaries in the welding process were broken down to smaller ones and recrystallized grains of several micrometers formed around the precipitates after CEF process, which could alleviate the negative effect induced by the micron-scale precipitates during plastic deforming process. Finer grains and smaller micronscale precipitates made contributions to improve the properties of a CuCrZr alloy with a welding joint.展开更多

In addition, effects of deformation temperature and rates on the microstructure and mechanical properties were investigated. The results show that the DRX grains nucleate initially at the primary grain boundaries and the twin boundaries, and the twinning plays an important role in the grain refinement. The DRX grain size depends on the deformation temperature and strain rate The average grain size is only 1 μm when the strain rate is 5 s-1 and temperature is 250 ℃. It is also found that the DRX grain can grow up quickly at the elevated temperature. The microstructure of extruded rods was consisted of tiny equal-axis DRX grains and some elongated grains. The rods extruded slowly have tiny grains and exhibit good mechanical properties.展开更多
