Sixty-five patients were randomized into two groups: Group A in which 32 cases were treated by herbpartitioned moxibustion and group B in which 33 cases were treated by bran-partitioned moxibustion. The therapeutic effects and TGF-β1, I and III collagen expressions were measured before and after treatment. Results In group A, 17 cases were cured, 12 cases improved and 3 failed; in group B, 11 cases were cured, 16 cases improved and 6 cases failed. I, III collagen expressions were obviously inhibited in the two groups, in group A in particular. Conclusion In the prevention and treatment of intestinal fibrosis, moxibustion may reduce the expression of TGF-β1, and hence to block or inhibit the synthesis of I, III collagens, and improve the structure and function. The statistics found that the commonly used therapies were acupuncture, moxibustion, acupuncture-moxibustion, herb-partitioned moxibustion, acupoint-injection, point-radiation therapy, auricular-plaster therapy, catgut implantation at acupoint, point application etc. The commonly used points were Zusanii (ST36), Tianshu (ST25), Pishu (BL20), Weishu (BL21), Zhongwan (CV12), Dachangshu (BL25) etc. The total effective rate in clinic was 95.40%. They were randomly divided into electroacupuncture plus qigong group (treatment group, in short), acupmoxi group and qigong groups. The results showed that the cure rate was 77% in the treatment group, 57% in the acupmoxi group and 53% in the qigong group. A chisquare test showed a significant difference (P<0.01), indicating that electroacupuncture plus qigong had a marked curative effect and suggesting that early treatment can produce a satisfactory effect.
