Effects of key parameters such as size of specimens, tie configuration, transverse reinforcement ratio, and concrete cover were studied. The results show that for specimens with the same configuration and the same volumetric ratio of the transverse reinforcement, along with the increasing specimen size, the peak stress, peak strain and deformation of the post-peak show a down trend, however, the volumetric ratio of the transverse reinforcement is lowered, the decreasing of the peak stress is accelerated, but the decreasing of the deformation is slow down. For specimens with the same volumetric ratio but different configurations of transverse reinforcement, though the transverse reinforcement configuration becomes more complicated, the peak stress of the large size specimen does not improve more than that of the small size. However, the deformation occurs before the stress declines to 85% of peak stress, and the improvement with the grid pattern tie configuration is much greater due to size effect.展开更多

Failure criterion of rock was a composited Mohr-Coulomb criterion with tension cut-off. An inclined joint was treated as square elements of ideal plastic material beyond the peak strength. Several FISH functions were written to automatically find the addresses of elements in the joint and to calculate the entire deformational characteristics of plane strain JRS. The results show that for moderate joint inclination (JI), strain is only concentrated into the joint governing the behavior of JRS, leading to ideal plastic responses in axial and lateral directions. For higher JI, the post-peak stress-axial and lateral strain curves become steeper as JI increases owing to the increase of new SB’s length. Lateral expansion and precursor to the unstable failure are the most apparent, resulting in the highest Poisson’s ratio and even negative volumetric strain. For lower JI, the entire post-peak deformational characteristics are independent of JI. The lowest lateral expansion occurs, leading to the lowest Poisson’s ratio and positive volumetric strain all along. The present prediction on anisotropic strength in plane strain compression qualitatively agrees with the results in triaxial tests of rocks. The JI calculated by Jaeger’s formula overestimates that related to the minimum strength. Advantages of the present numerical model over the Jaeger’s model are pointed out.展开更多

UniFed SBR system with itsunique operation mode had the distinct superiority ofphosphorus removal. On this occasion, the effect ofvolumetric exchange ratio (VER) and the method ofinfluent introduction for phosphorus removal were studied. When the carbon source became the limiting factor tophosphorus release, the higher the VER, the lower thephosphorus concentration in the effluent. Three differentinfluent patterns, including one-time filling, four-timefilling, and continuous filling with the same quantity ofwastewater could increase the release rate of anaerobicphosphorus from 0.082 to 0.143 mg·P·(L·min)-1. Appropriatechange of the traditional operation modes couldoptimize the efficiency of phosphorus removal. When thefeed/ decant time was extended from 2 h to 4 h, thephosphorous removal efficiency increased from 59.93% to88.45% without any external carbon source. In the mode ofalternation of anoxic-aerobic (A/O) condition, phosphorousremoval efficiency increased from 55.07% to 72.27%clearly. The carbon source in the influent can be usedadequately, and denitrifying phosphorus removal wascarried out in anoxic stage 2 (A2). This mode was optimalfor the treatment of actual domestic wastewater with lowC/N and C/P ratios.展开更多

Effects of applied axial load ratio and volumetric stirrup ratio on ductility, energy dissipation capacity, strength degradation and rigidity degradation were discussed. It was found that all connection specimens failed in bending in a ductile manner with a beam plastic hinge. The ductility and energy dissipation capacity increased with the decrease of applied axial load ratio or increase of volumetric stirrup ratio. The displacement ductility coefficient and equivalent damping coefficient lay between those of steel reinforced ordinary concrete connection and those of reinforced concrete connection. The applied axial load ratio and volumetric stirrup ratio had less influence on the strength degradation and more influence on the stiffness degradation. The stiffness degraded sharply with the decrease of volumetric stirrup ratio or increase of applied axial load ratio. The experimental results indicate that SRUHSC column and RC beam connection exhibited better seismic performance and can provide reference for engineering application.展开更多
