Parameters affecting the leaching efficiency of vanadium and chromium were investigated: sulfuric acid concentration, MnOz-to-slag mass ratio, liquid-to-solid ratio, leaching time, leaching temperature, and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-to-slag mass ratio. The leaching efficiencies of vanadium and chromium were 33.46 % and 20.02 % higher in the presence of MnO2 and SDS, respectively, compared to the control. The leaching efficiencies of vanadium and chromium were 68.93 % and 30.74 %, respectively, under the optimum conditions: sulfuric acid concentration 40 wt%, MnOz-to-slag mass ratio 10.0 wt%, liquid-to-solid ratio 5:1 mL/g; 12 h; 90 ~C; and SDS-to-slag mass ratio 0.25 wt%. The analysis of the reaction mechanism in the leaching process indicates that MnO2 combined with protons (H+) could oxidize low-valent vanadium and chromium; SDS could change the chemical behavior and decrease the surface tension of the aqueous solution to favor MnO2 oxidization.展开更多

The composite ceramics were synthesized by using SiC, andalusite, a-Al2O3 as the starting materials with non-contact graphite-buried sintering method. Phase composition and microstructure of the composites were investigated by XRD and SEM, and the effect of MnOz on the properties of SiC composites was studied. Results indicated that samples SM1 with 0.2 wt% MnO2 addition achieved the optimum properties: bending strength of 70.96 MPa, heat capacity of 1.02 J.(g.K)-1, thermal conductivity of 9.05 W-(m.K)-1. Proper addition of MnO2 was found to weaken the volume effect of the composites and improve the thermal shock resistance with an increased rate of 27.84% for bending strength after 30 cycles of thermal shock (air cooling from 1 100 ℃ to RT). Carbon nanofiber yarns were synthesized directly over copper foil through a floating catalyst method. The growth of carbon nanofiber yarns was significantly enhanced by mechanical polishing of the copper foils, which can be attributed to the increased surface roughness and surface area of the copper foils. MnO2 was then grown over carbon nanofibers through spontaneous reduction of potassium permanganate by the carbon nanofibers. The obtained composites of carbon nanofibers@MnO2 over copper foil were tested as an anode in lithium ion batteries and they show superior electrochemical performance. The initial reversible capacity of carbon nanofibers@MnO2 reaches up to around 998 mAh.g-1 at a rate of 60 mmA.g-l based on the mass of carbon nanofibers and MnO2. The carbon nanofibers @ MnO2 electrodes could deliver a capacity of 630 mAh.g-1 at the beginning and maintain a capacity of 440 mmAh.g-1 after 105 cycles at a rate of 600 mA.g-~. The high initial capacity can be attributed to the presence of porous carbon nanofiber yarns which have good electrical conductivity and the MnO2 thin film which makes the entire materials electrochemically active. The high cyclic stability of carbon nanofibers@MnO2 can be ascribed to the MnO2 thin film which can accommodate the volume expansion and shrinking during charge and discharge and the good contact of carbon nanofibers with MnO2 and copper foil.展开更多
