Our work aimed to study magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) pathologies of the soft tissues of the elbow through illustrative cases. Methodology: This was a retrospective and prospective cross-sectional study covering a period of one year, from June 2020 to June 2021, at the Saint Camille Hospital in Ouagadougou and the Polyclinique Notre Dame de la Paix. Results: In general, this study found that the pathologies diagnosed on MRI were lateral epicondylitis, subcutaneous type V elbow lipoma and liposarcoma, anteromedial cortical fracture of the radial cup, cortical detachment fracture of the lateral epicondylitis, medial epicondylitis, villonodular articular synovitis, simple dermo-hypodermatitis, sequellar fibrosis of the ulnar nerve, Workman's syndrome (median and ulnar nerves) and osteoarthritis of the elbow. Lateral epicondylitis was the most frequent pathology, and most patients consulted for elbow pain predominantly associated with pressure on the epicondyle, with relative functional impotence and, occasionally, elbow swelling. Conclusion: MRI, as a complement to ultrasound and radiography, remains the most informative examination for exploring soft-tissue pathologies of the elbow.展开更多

Ten New Zealand white rabbits which were implanted with VX2 tumor in either proximal thigh were subjected to CT plain scan and perfusion scan two weeks later respectively, then the original perfusion images were transmitted to AW4.0 Workstation. The functional maps and perfusion parameters including blood flow (BF), blood volume (BV), mean transit time (MTT) and permeability surface (PS) were computed and analyzed. All the values of BF, BV and PS in VX2 soft-tissue tumors were obviously higher while the MTT-values were lower than those in the normal muscular tissues significantly. It was suggested that multi-slice spiral CT perfusion imaging is an accurate, convenient and relatively safe functional imaging technique, and can give a quantitative assessment to angiogenesis and blood perfusion of soft-tissue tumors.展开更多

Recent decades have witnessed a fast growing research on developing various models for such anomalous viscosity behaviors among which one of the present authors proposed the modified Szabo's wave equation via the positive fractional derivative. The purpose of this study is to apply the modified Szabo's wave equation to simulate a recent ultrasonic imaging technique called the clinical amplitude- velocity reconstruction imaging (CARI) of breast tumors which are of typical soft tissue matters. Investigations have been made on the effects of the size and position of tumors on the quality of ultrasonic medical imaging. It is observed from numerical results that the sound pressure along the reflecting line, which indicates the detection results, varies obviously with sizes and lateral positions of tumors, but remains almost the same for different axial positions.展开更多

The objective of this study is to validate tactile imaging and muscle contraction parameters (markers) sensitive to the female pelvic floor conditions. Twenty-two women with normal and prolapse conditions were examined by a vaginal tactile imaging probe. We identified 9 parameters which were sensitive to prolapse conditions (p < 0.05 for one-way ANOVA and/or p < 0.05 for t-test with correlation factor r from -0.73 to -0.56). The list of parameters includes pressure, pressure gradient and dynamic pressure response during muscle contraction at identified locations. These parameters may be used for biomechanical characterization of female pelvic floor conditions to support an effective management of pelvic floor prolapse.展开更多

Both of the approaches have various phases including extracting outlines of images, detecting corner points from the detected outlines, and curve fitting. Interpolation splines are the bases of the two approached. Linear spline approach is straight forward as it does not have a degree of freedom.in terms of some shape controller in its description. However, the idea of the soft computing approach, namely simulated annealing, has been utilized for conic splines. This idea has been incorporated to optimize the shape parameters in the description of the generalized conic spline. Both of the linear and conic approaches ultimately produce optimal results for the approximate vectorization of the digital contours obtained from the generic shapes.展开更多
