Methods: In two experiments, participants were briefly (from 20 to 300 ms) shown one of six basic expressions and then were asked to identify the expression. Results: The results showed that the participants' performance in recognition of microexpressions increased with the duration of the expressions, reaching a turning point at 200 ms before levelling off. The results also indicated that practice could improve the participants' performance. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the proper upper limit of the duration of microexpressions might be around 1/5 of a second and confirmed that the ability to recognize microexpressions can be enhanced with practice.展开更多

BACKGROUND Prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is rapidly increasing,and NAFLD has become one of the most common chronic liver diseases worldwide.With abnormal CD44 activation,the severe form of NAFLD...BACKGROUND Prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is rapidly increasing,and NAFLD has become one of the most common chronic liver diseases worldwide.With abnormal CD44 activation,the severe form of NAFLD can progress to liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Thus,the molecular mechanism of CD44 in NAFLD needs to be identified.AIM To investigate the relationship between CD44 activation and malignant transformation of rat hepatocytes under nonalcoholic lipid accumulation.METHODS Sprague-Dawley rats were fed a high-fat(HF)for 12 wk to entice NAFLD and then with HF plus 2-fluorenylacetamide(0.05%)to induce HCC.Rats were sacrificed every 2 wk,and subsequently divided into the groups based on liver pathological examination(hematoxylin and eosin staining):NAFLD,denaturation,precancerosis,HCC,and control.Liver CD44 mRNA was detected by OneArray.Liver fat as assessed by Oil red O staining or CD44 by immunohistochemical assay was compared with their integral optic density.Serum CD44,alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,triglyceride,total cholesterol,and AFP levels were quantitatively tested.RESULTS Elevated CD44 was first reported in hepatocarcinogenesis,with increasing expression from NAFLD to HCC at the protein or mRNA level.The CD44 integral optic density values were significantly different between the control group and the NAFLD(t=25.433,P<0.001),denaturation(t=48.822,P<0.001),precancerosis(t=27.751,P<0.001),and HCC(t=16.239,P<0.001)groups,respectively.Hepatic CD44 can be secreted into the blood,and serum CD44 levels in HCC or precancerous rats were significantly higher(P<0.001)than those in any of the other rats.Positive correlations were found between liver CD44 and CD44 mRNA(rs=0.373,P=0.043)and serum CD44(rs=0.541,P=0.002)and between liver CD44 mRNA and serum CD44(rs=0.507,P=0.004).Moreover,significant correlations were found between liver CD44 and liver AFP(rs=0.572,P=0.001),between serum CD44 and serum AFP(rs=0.608,P<0.001),and between CD44 mRNA and AFP mRNA(rs=0.370,P=0.04展开更多

METHODS： A human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line SGC-7902 grafte...AIM： To investigate the expression of multiple genes in Chinese jianpi herbal recipe Wei Chang An （WCA） in human gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901. METHODS： A human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line SGC-7902 grafted onto nude mice was used as the animal model. The mice were randomly divided into 3 groups, one control and the two representing experimental conditions. Animals in the two experimental groups received either WCA over a 34-d period or 5-fluorouracil （5-FU） over 6-d period starting at 8th d after grafting. Control animals received saline on an identical schedule. Animals were killed 41 d after being grafted. The expression profiles in paired WCA treated gastric cancer samples and the N.S. control samples were studied by using a cDNA array representing 14181 cDNA clusters. The alterations in gene expression levels were confirmed by Real-time Quantitative polymerase chain reaction （qPCR）. RESULTS： When compared with controls, the average tumor inhibitory rate in WCA group was 44.32% ± 5.67% and 5-FU 47.04% ± 22.33% （P 〈 0.01, respectively）. The average labeling index （LI） for PCNA in WCA group and 5-FU group was significantly decreased compared with the control group. Apoptotic index （AI） was significantly increased to 9.72% ± 4.52% using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate fluorescence nick end labeling （TUNEL） method in WCA group compared with the controls 2.45% ± 2.37%. 5-FU group was also found to have a significantly increased AI compared with the controls. The expression of cleaved Caspase-3 in WCA group and 5-FU group was significantly increased compared with the control group respectively. There were 45 different expressed sequence tags （ESTs） among the control sample pool and WCA sample pool. There were 24 ESTs up-regulated in WCA samples and 21 ESTs down-regulated. This study addresses the link between social media use and pro-environmental civic participation considering the moderating effect of social media affordances (public realm) on one hand, and lifestyle behaviors and cl...This study addresses the link between social media use and pro-environmental civic participation considering the moderating effect of social media affordances (public realm) on one hand, and lifestyle behaviors and climate change experiences (personal realm) on the other. We combine communication theory and behavioral models and using a sample of USA individuals (N = 7225) based on the American Trends Panel to predict variations in pro-environmental behavior. We show that social networks rather than information are more effective in predicting pro-environmental behavior. Moreover, a pro-environmental lifestyle as well as climate change experiences at the community level increase the likelihood for pro-environmental participation. However, affordances related to socioeconomic variations generate variations to pro-environmental civic participation. We conclude that in order to capture the depth of pro-environmental civic participation, it is necessary to theoretically and empirically bridge between private and public expressions of pro-environmental awareness.展开更多

Path-shortening reduces the number of joins byshortening the path while path-complementing optimizes the path execution by using an equivalentcomplementary path expression to compute the original one.
