And the Y-TiO2 support, doped with yttrium, was synthesized via sol-gel technique. The prepared catalysts were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The processes allowed obtaining Keggin structure and crystallized anatase with large BET surface area as well as uniform distribution. The effects of H3PW12O40 loadings, catalyst dose, initial pH and concentration of dye solution on the degradation kinetics of methyl orange under UV light (λ≥365 nm) were discussed. Kinetics studies showed that the photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange fitted the apparent first-order reaction. Methyl orange was totally degraded in 21 min under optimum conditions: 20% loading, 0.03 g dose and pH 1.0. The catalyst was stable and easily to be separated from reaction system for recovery.展开更多

The structural, optical, and electrical properties of AZO films as-deposited and submitted to annealing treatment (at 300 and 400℃, respectively) were characterized using various techniques. The experimental results show that the properties of AZO thin films can be further improved by annealing treatment. The crystallinity of ZnO films improves after annealing treatment. The transmittances of the AZO thin films prepared by DC and RF reactive magnetron sputtering are up to 80% and 85% in the visible region, respectively. The electrical resistivity of AZO thin films prepared by DC reactive magnetron sputtering can be as low as 8.06 x 10-4 Ωcm after annealing treatment. It was also found that AZO thin films prepared by RF reactive magnetron sputtering have better structural and optical properties than that prepared by DC reactive magnetron sputtering.展开更多

Based on this idea, a novel ZVI packed upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (ZVI-UASB) reactor was developed to treat azo dye wastewater with variable influent quality. The results showed that the reactor was less influenced by increases of Reactive Brilliant Red X-3B concentration from 50 to 1000 mg/L and chemical oxygen demand (COD) from 1000 to 7000 mg/L in the feed than a reference UASB reactor without the ZVI. The ZVI decreased oxidation-reduction potential in the reactor by about 80 mV. Iron ion dissolution from the ZVI could buffer acidity in the reactor, the amount of which was related to the COD concentration. Fluorescence in situ hybridization test showed the abundance of methanogens in the sludge of the ZVI-UASB reactor was significantly greater than that of the reference one. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis showed that the ZVI increased the diversity of microbial strains responsible for high efficiency.展开更多

In this regard, ten bacterial strains were isolated from wastewater treatment plants, and most of them were subjected to the colored effluents resulting from dilapidated houses. The ability of these bacterial isolations to use a wide range of azo dyes to determine the sole carbon source was determined. According to these screening testes, two bacterial isolations were selected as the most potent decolorizer for azo dyes, and they were identified as Comamanas acidovorns-TN1 and Burkholdera cepace-TN5. The optimization process started with the addition of 1 g/l yeast extract, where the decolorization ability of the two strains increased sharply and according to this experiment, the two azo dyes, Acid orange 7 and Direct blue 75, were selected to complete the study. The effect of different conditional and chemical factors on the decolorization process of Acid orange 7 and Direct blue 75 by Comamanas acidovorns-TN1 and Burkholdera cepace-TN5 was studied. Factors that contributed to the difference were different pH, temperature, incubation period, inoculum size, carbon source, nitrogen source and the respective concentrations of yeast extract. This study recommends the application of the two most potent bacterial strains in the decolorization of the azo dyes, along with acid orange 7 and direct blue 75, specifically in the industrial effluents under all nutritional and environmental conditions.展开更多

The dependence of the photoluminescence (PL) and transmittance properties of the AZO films deposited by cosputtering and sputtering on the AZO/ZnO target power ratio, R and the O2/Ar flow ratio, r were investigated, respectively. Only a deep level emission peak appears in the PL spectra of cosputtered AZO films whereas both UV emission and deep level emission peaks are observed in the PL spectra of sputtered AZO films. The absorption edges in the transmittance spectra of the AZO films shift to the lower wavelength region as R and r increase. Effects of crystallinity, surface roughness, PL on the transmittance of the AZO films were also explained using the X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and PL analysis results.展开更多

The aim of the investigation is to determine the adsorption behavior ofazo dyes in aqueous solution on DG06, GSE17200, and GSE17201 soils using C. I. Acid Red 14 (AR14) as example. The experimental results indicate that the Freundlich model expresses the adsorption isotherm better than the Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order model achieves adsorption of AR14 on the three soils well. Based on the pseudo-second-order model, the adsorption thermodynamic of AR14 on DG06 soil have been studied and the thermodynamics parameter of AGO is determined and AGO value shows the adsorption process of AR14 on DG06 is mainly physical in nature. Furthermore, the effects of temperature, pH and salinity (NaC1) on adsorption have been investigated. The decrease in pH or the increase in salinity enhances the adsorption of AR14 by DG06, GSE17200, and GSE17201.展开更多

The samples were characterized using Fourier transform in- frared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and N2 absorption-desorption analysis. Results showed that inorganic anions CI, 504^2-, CO32 and NO3 had inhibition effect on the degradation of methyl orange. A great enhancement of degradation rate was obtained while H202 and ethyl alcohol were applied. The degradation rates improved with the increase of H202 concentration. The optimum additive amount of ethyl alcohol was 0.5 mol/L. The possible mechanisms of the effects of additives on methyl orange degradation were discussed.展开更多
