Occasionally, so-called metastatic disease occurs in extra-intestinal sites. Granulomatous inflammation may be detected in endoscopic biopsies or resected tissues. Genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors appear to play a role. Multiple susceptibility genes have been described in both familial and non-familial forms while the disease is phenotypically heterogeneous with a female predominance. The disorder occurs over a broad age spectrum, from early childhood to late adulthood. More than 80% are diagnosed before age 40 years usually with terminal ileal and colonic involvement. Pediatric-onset disease is more severe and more extensive, usually with a higher chance of upper gastrointestinal tract disease, compared to adult-onset disease. Long-term studies have shown that the disorder may evolve with time into more complex disease with stricture formation and penetrating disease complications (i.e., fistula, abscess). Although prolonged remission may occur, discrete periods of symptomatic disease may re-appear over many decades suggesting recurrence or re-activation of this inflammatory process. Eventual development of a cure will likely depend on identification of an etiologic cause and a fundamental understanding of its pathogenesis. Until now, treatment has focused on removing risk factors, particularly cigarette smoking, and improving symptoms. In clinical trials, clinical remission is largely defined as improved numerical and endoscopic indices for “mucosal healing”. “Deep remission” is a conceptual, more “extended” goal that may or may not alter the long-term natural history of the disease in selected patients, albeit at a significant risk for treatment complications, including serious and unusual opportunistic infections.展开更多

The bonding characteristics of the complex were characterized by IR, showing that Nd3+ is bonded with sulfur atom in the APDC and coordinated with nitrogen atom in the phen. TG-DTG investigation indicates that the title complex was decomposed into Nd2S3 and deposited carbon in one step where Nd2S3 predominated in the final products. The enthalpy change of formation of the reaction on the title com-plex in liquid-phase has been determined by a microcalorimeter. Thermodynamic parameters (the activation en-thalpy, the activation entropy and the activation free energy) and kinetics parameters (the rate constant, the apparent activation energy, the pre-exponential constant and the reaction order) of the title reaction have been calculated. The enthalpy change of the solid-phase reaction has been obtained by a thermochemistry cycle.展开更多

The obtained Co(phen)2/C product with 1.0 wt% cobalt loading exhibits similar morphology and porosity characteristics to those of the bare BP2000. X-ray diffraction measurements demonstrate a face-centered cubic (fcc) α-Co phase embedded in the carbon support after pyrolysis. Charge/discharge tests of the lithium-oxygen cells using the prepared Co(phen)2/C catalyst show high discharge capacities of 4870 mAh g-1 (0.05 mA cm-2 ), 3353 mAh g-1 (0.1 mA cm-2 ) and 3220 mAh g 1 (0.15 mA cm-2 ), respectively. The Co(phen) 2 /C cathode exhibits reasonable reversibility with capacity retention of 1401 mAh g-1 ( 0.1 mA cm-2 ) after 10 cycles. The superior electrochemical performance of the prepared Co(phen)2/C catalyst and low cost of the phenanthroline chelating agent indicate that Co(phen)2/C is a promising cheap catalyst for lithium-air batteries.展开更多

The ligand was characterized based on elemental analysis, FT-IR, and 1H NMR. The complexes were characterized with elemental analysis, FT-IR and thermogravimetry and derivative thermogravimetry (TG-DTG). Photoluminescence measurements indicated that the energy absorbed by the organic ligand was efficiently transferred to the central Tb3+ ions, and the complex showed intense and characteristic emissions due to the 5D4→7FJ transitions of the central Tb3+ ions. Both complexes showed longer fluorescence lifetimes. After the introduction of the second ligand Phen group, the relative emission intensities and fluorescence lifetimes of the ternary complex Tb(TBAA)3Phen enhanced more obviously than that of the binary complex Tb(TBAA)3·2H2O. This indicated that the presence of the ligand TBAA and the second ligand Phen could sensitize fluorescence intensities of Tb(Ⅲ) ions, and the introduction of Phen group resulted in the enhancement of the fluorescence properties of the Tb(Ⅲ) ternary rare earth complex.展开更多
