Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS)has been widely studied due to its unique advantages such as remote sensing,real-time multi-elemental detection and none-to-little damage.With the efforts of researchers around the world,LIBS has been developed by leaps and bounds.Moreover,in recent years,more and more Chinese LIBS researchers have put tremendous energy in promoting LIBS applications.It is worth mentioning that the application of LIBS in a specific field has its special application background and technical difficulties,therefore it may develop in different stages.A review summarizing the current development status of LIBS in various fields would be helpful for the development of LIBS technology as well as its applications especially for Chinese LIBS community since most of the researchers in this field work in application.In the present work,we summarized the research status and latest progress of main research groups in coal,metallurgy,and water,etc.Based on the current research status,the challenges and opportunities of LIBS were evaluated,and suggestions were made to further promote LIBS applications. 展开更多

There is limited information about the influence of slow or controlled release fertilizer(S/CRF) on rice yield and quality. In this study, japonica rice cultivar Nanjing 9108 was used to study the effects of three different S/CRFs(polymer-coated urea(PCU), sulfur-coated urea(SCU), and urea formaldehyde(UF)) and two fertilization modes(both S/CRF and common urea(CU) as basal fertilizer, S/CRF as basal and CU as tillering fertilizer) on rice yield and quality. CU only was applied separately as control(CK). Results showed that, rice grain yield, chalky kernel rate, chalky area, overall chalkiness, and the content of gliadin, glutenin, and protein, all showed the trends of UF〉PCU〉SCU within the same fertilization mode, and showed the trends of S/CRF as basal and CU as tillering fertilizer〉both S/CRF and CU as basal fertilizer within the same type of S/CRF. In contrast, the contents of amylose, amylopectin, and starch, as well as taste value, and peak and hot viscosity showed trends of SCU〉PCU〉UF, and the trends of both S/CRF and CU as basal fertilizer〉S/CRF as basal and CU as tillering fertilizer. Among S/CRF treatments and fertilization modes, taste values of cooked rice were positively correlated with amylose, amylopectin, and starch contents, as well as gel consistency, peak viscosity, hot viscosity, and cool viscosity, while negatively correlated with globulin, gliadin, glutenin, and protein contents. The types of S/CRF and fertilization modes are important for improving rice yield and quality. Compared to CK, higher yield and similar quality of rice was achieved with UF as basal and CU as tillering fertilizer, and similar yield with improved appearance and eating and cooking quality of rice was achieved with either both UF and CU as basal fertilizer, or PCU as basal and CU as tillering fertilizer. 展开更多

Background: Hepatitis B surfhce antigen (HBsAg) Ioss/seroconversion is considered to be the ideal endpoint of antiviral therapy and the ultimate treatment goal in chronic hepatitis B (CHB). This study aimed to assess the patterns of ttBsAg kinetics in CHB patients who achieved HBsAg loss during the treatment of pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) α-2a. Methods: A total of 150 patients were enrolled, composing of 83 hepatitis B envelope antigen (H BeAg)-positive and 67 HBeAg-negative patients. Patients were treated with PEG-IFN α-2a180 μg/week until HBsAg loss/seroconversion was achieved, which occurred within 96 weeks. Serum hepatitis B virus deoxyribonucleic acid and serological indicators (HBsAg, anti-HBs, HBeAg, and anti-HBe) were determined before and every 3 months during PEG-1FN α-2a treatment. Biochemical markers and peripheral blood neutrophil and platelet counts were tested every 1-3 months. Results: Baseline HBsAg levels were 2.5 ± 1.3 log IU/ml, and decreased rapidly at 12 and 24 weeks by 48.3%, and 88.3%, respectively. The mean time to HBsAg loss was 54.2 ± 30.4 weeks, though most patients needed extended treatment and 30.0% of HBsAg loss occurred during 72-96 weeks. Baseline HBsAg levels were significantly higher in HBeAg-positive patients (2.9 ± 1.1 log 1U/ml) compared with HBeAg-negative patients (2.0 ± 1.3 log I U/ml; t = 4.733, P 〈 0.001), but the HBsAg kinetics were similar. Patients who achieved HBsAg loss within 48 weeks had significantly lower baseline HBsAg levels and had more rapid decline of HBsAg at 12 weeks compared to patients who needed extended treatment to achieve HBsAg loss. Conclusions: Patients with lower baseline HBsAg levels and more rapid decline during early treatment with PEG-IFN are more likely to achieve HBsAg loss during 96 weeks of treatment, and extended therapy longer than 48 weeks may be required to achieve HBsAg loss. 展开更多

AIM: To study Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and its association with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at the miRNA level.METHODS: Three cellular models were used to investigate miRNA expression changes during HBV infection: human HepG2 hepatoblastoma cell line as a model without HBV infection;HepG2 cell line transfected with a 1.3-fold full-length HBV genome as an acute infection model;and HepG2.2.15 cell line,which is derived from HepG2 and stably transfected with a complete HBV genome,as a chronic infection model.The miRNA levels were examined using microarray technology.To explore the relationship between HBV infection and HCC genesis at the miRNA level,we downloaded from national center for biotechnology information Gene Expression Omnibus an miRNA expression dataset derived from HCC patients,most of whom are HBV carriers.We compared the miRNA expression alterations during HBV infection with those in HCC patients,by analyzing miRNA expression change profiles statistically.RESULTS: Seventy-seven and 48 miRNAs were differentially expressed during acute and chronic HBV infection,respectively.Among these miRNAs,25 were in common,the intersection of which was significant under the hypergeometric test (P = 1.3 × 10-11).Fourteen miRNAs were observed to change coherently in the acute and chronic infections,with one upregulated and 13 downregulated.Eleven showed inverse changes during the two phases of infection;downregulated in the acute infection and upregulated in the chronic infection.The results imply that common and specific mechanisms exist at the miRNA level during acute and chronic HBV infection.Besides,comparative analysis of the miRNA expression changes during HBV infection with those in HCC indicates that,although miRNA expression changes during HBV infection are distinct from those in HCC patients (P < 2.2 × 10-16),they exhibited significant correlations (P = 0.0229 for acute infection;P = 0.0084 for chronic infection).Perturbation of miRNA expression during chronic HBV infection was closer to that in 展开更多

The microhardness curve trend and its relationships with microstructure and misorientation were analyzed to enhance the comprehension of the microstructure and mechanical property of micro-areas in Ti6 Al4 V laser-welded joints with different welding speeds. The microhardness measured on the fusion line(H_m) is the highest from the weld center to the base metal. H_m increases with increasing weld width in a welded joint and increasing degree of the non-uniformity in all studied welded joints. The microhardness decreases from the weld metal to the base metal with decreasing amount of martensite α’ and increasing amount of original α phase. When the microstructure is mainly composed of martensite α’, the microhardness changes with the cooling rate, grain size of the martensite, and peak values of the fraction of misorientation angle of the martensite in a wide weld metal zone or weld center at different welding speeds, whereas the difference is small in a narrow weld metal zone. 展开更多

A 5' flanking region of the well-conserved Toll/interleukin-1 receptor domain (TIR)-encoding sequence was isolated from the genomic DNA ofMelampsora magnusiana Wagner resistant clones of hybrid triploid poplars [(Populus tomentosa × P. bolleana) × P. tomentosa]. Sequencing results and alignment analysis show that the obtained TIR-specific promoter (named as PtTIRp01) was 1,732 bp in length; moreover 3' region of the PtTIRp01 contains a responds to the 5' composition of TIR-NBS type gene PtDRG02, of 747 bp long 5' region of TIR-NBS type gene PtDRG02 and its 398 bp complete TIR-encoding sequence, which significantly corindicating that the obtained TIR-specific promoter region consists upstream region of promoter (985 bp). It was found that the 5' region of TIR-NBS type gene PtDRG02 was characterized in the downstream region of the transcriptional start, named as 5'-untranslated region (5' UTR), consisting of one 93 bp 5'-untranslation exon, one 213 bp intron and one 441 bp TIR-encoding open reading frame (ORF). In addition, several putative cis-acting motifs were present in the obtained TIR-specific promoter of PtDRG02, including one TATA box, one GC-rich, one AT-rich, one P-box, one 3-AF1 binding site, two CAAT boxes, two GT-1 motifs, three typical W-boxes, four I-boxes, and one multi-cis-acting fragment (MCF). The latter contains five types of regulatory elements (E4, G-box, ABRE motif, box 1 and HVA 1 s), most of which were homologous to the cis-acting regulatory elements involved in the activation of defense genes in plants. Thus, it can be suggested that TIR-specific promoter might be a pathogen-inducible promoter and be necessary for the inducible expression of defense-related genes. BACKGROUND: The nuclear translocation of transcription factors may be a critical factor in the intracellular pathway involved in ischemia/reperfusion(I/R) injury. The aim of the study was to evaluate the role of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) in the pathogenesis of liver injury induced by intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (IIR) and to investigate the effect of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) on this liver injury. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were divided randomly into three experimental groups (8 rats in each): sham operation group (control group); intestinal/reperfusion group(I/R group): animals received 1-hour of intestinal ischemia and 2-hour reperfusion; and PDTC treatment group (PDTC group): animals that received I/R subject to PDTC treatment (100 mg/kg). The histological changes in the liver and intestine were observed, and the serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), liver superoxide dismutase (SOD), and nitrite/nitrate (NO) were measured. The immunohistochemical expression and Western blot analysis of liver NF-κB and intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) were observed. RESULTS: IIR induced liver injury characterized by the histological changes of liver edema, hemorrhage, polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) infiltration, and elevated serum levels of AST and ALT. The serum TNF-α level was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.01) and a high level of liver oxidant product was observed (P<0.01). These changes were parallel to the positive expression of NF-κB and ICAM-1. After the administration of PDTC, the histological changes after liver injury were improved; the levels of SOD and NO in the liver were elevated and reduced, respectively (P<0.01). The expressions of ICAM-1 and NF-κB in the liver were weakened (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: NF-κB plays an important role in the pathogenesis of liver injury induced by HR. PDTC, an agent known to inhibit the activation of NF-κB, can reduce and prevent this injury. 展开更多

Electroacupuncture(EA)has been widely used for functional restoration after stroke.However,its role in post-stroke rehabilitation and the associated regulatory mechanisms remain poorly understood.In this study,we applied EA to the Zusanli(ST36)and Quchi(LI11)acupoints in rats with middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion.We found that EA effectively increased the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and its receptor tyrosine kinase B,synapsin-1,postsynaptic dense protein 95,and microtubule-associated protein 2 in the ischemic penumbra of rats with middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion.Moreover,EA greatly reduced the expression of myelin-related inhibitors Nogo-A and NgR in the ischemic penumbra.Tyrosine kinase B inhibitor ANA-12 weakened the therapeutic effects of EA.These findings suggest that EA can improve neurological function after middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion,possibly through regulating the activity of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor/tyrosine kinase B signal pathway.All procedures and experiments were approved by the Animal Research Committee of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,China(approval No.PZSHUTCM200110002)on January 10,2020. 展开更多

Bupleurum polysaccharides(BPs)is isolated from Bupleurum smithii var.parvifolium,a key traditional Chinese medicine.The study was to investigate the effects of BPs on diabetic kidney injury.After two intraperitoneal injections of streptozotozin(STZ)100 mg·kg^–1,renal injury in diabetic mice was induced and BPs was orally administrated at dosages of 30 and 60 mg·kg^–1·d^–1.The STZ injected mice developed renal function damage,renal inflammation and fibrosis known as diabetic kidney disease(DKD).BPs significantly reduced serum creatinine level and urinary albumin excretion rate,with the attenuated swelling of kidneys.BPs treatment obviously alleviated the pathological damage of renal tissue.The progression of renal injury in BPs treated mice was inhibited with less expression of type IV collagen(Col IV),fibronectin(FN)andα-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA).The inhibition of inflammation in kidney was associated with the reduced level of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and interleukin-6(IL-6).BPs administration suppressed the over-expression of toll like receptor 4(TLR4)and high-mobility group box 1(HMGB1)with lowered activity of nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)in renal tissue of diabetic mice.Oral administration of BPs effectively prevented the development of renal injury in diabetic mice.This study suggested that the protection provided by BPs might affect through the interruption of HMGB1-TLR4 pathway,leading to the inhibition of renal inflammation and fibrotic process. 展开更多

The study of the leaching of vanadium(V) and molybdenum(Mo) from spent petrochemical catalysts in sodium hydroxide(NaO H) medium was performed using two approaches, namely, conventional leaching and microwave-assisted leaching methods. The influence of microwave power, leaching time, leaching temperature, and NaOH concentration on the leaching efficiency of spent petrochemical catalyst was investigated. Under microwave-assisted conditions(600 W, 10 min, 90°C, 2.0 mol·L^(-1) NaOH, and 0.20 g·mL^(-1) solid–liquid ratio), the leaching efficiencies of V and Mo reached 94.35% and 96.23%, respectively. It has been confirmed that microwave energy has considerable potential to enhance the efficiency of the leaching process and reduce the leaching time. It is suggested that the enhancement of the leaching efficiencies of V and Mo can be attributed to the existence of a thermal gradient between solid and liquid and the generation of cracks on the mineral surface. 展开更多

To better understand the factors influencing the thermal structure of tributaries in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR), a well validated three-dimensional hydrodynamic and water temperature model was proposed to simulate the water temperature distribution in the Xiangxi Bay, a representative tributary of TGR. The numerical results show that water temperature stratification seasonally occurred in the Xiangxi Bay, with stable vertical temperature profiles. It is found from the numerical experiments that three key factors are responsible for the formation of water temperature structure: (1) very often, the locations of thermocline are mainly determined by wind speeds, and the higher the wind speed is, the deeper the thermocline is located beneath the water surface, which could be expressed by a fitted exponential function, (2) the thermal structure is affected by static stability of water column, and the thermocline becomes closer to the water surface and its thickness increases with the increase of temperature, (3) due to the effect of the thermal density inflow, the water temperature of the hypolimnion tends to be uniform, however, even under the condition of larger inflow discharge, the influence of the inflow on the epilitnnion and the thermocline is not significant. 展开更多

Objective: To identify the miRNA specific signature as novel diagnostic and prognostic tools for gastric cancer. Methods: miRNAs expression profiling of 3 normal gastric tissues, 24 malignant tissues, gastric cancer cell SGC7901 and normal gastric cell GES-1 were detected using microarray technology. The hierarchical clustering algorithm of the Cluster software was used to analyse the miRNAs expression of all samples. The expression levels of miR-433 and miR-9 which were significantly down-regulated in gastric cancer tissues and SGC7901 cells by microarray technology were validated by quantitative Real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Results: Differential expressions of 26 individual miRNAs between normal samples (including 3 normal gastric tissues and GES-1 cells) and carcinomas (including 24 malignant tissues and SGC7901 cells) were discovered, 19 of them showing down-regulation and 7 up-regulation in carcinoma samples. Hierarchical clustering of the Cancer samples by their miRNA expression accurately separated the carcinomas from normal samples and further their histotypes of carcinomas. The expression levels of miR-433 and miR-9 were significantly down-regulated in gastric cancer tissues and SGC7901cells Conclusion: The differential expression of miR-433 and miR-9 may be used as a novel diagnostic tool for gastric cancer. 展开更多

With the impoundment of the Three Gorges Reservoir, algal blooms have been found in some tributaries. In this study, according to the theoretical analysis of the eutrophication mechanism in a river-type reservoir tributary, a one-dimensional eutrophication model was developed for the Xiangxi River tributary of the Three Gorges Reservoir, and the influence of hydrodynamic conditions on the primary growth rate of algae was investigated. Furthermore, numerical predictions of hydraulic variables and eutrophication factors, such as the concentration distribution of TP, TN, and Chl-a in the spatial and temporal domains, were carried out. Comparison of computation results of TP, TN, and Chl-a concentrations along the river in the spring of 2005 with experimental data demonstrates the validity of the model. The agreement between the computation results and the experimental data of TP and TN concentrations is better than the agreement between those of Chl-a concentration. The simulated results also show that the Chl-a concentration downstream is much higher than that in the upstream tributary, which potentially indicates the outbreak of algae in this area. Therefore, this study provides a feasible method of accurately predicting the state of eutrophication in river-type reservoirs and their tributaries. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the effect of Chaiqinchengqi decoction(CQCQD) on serum amyloid A (SAA) in severe acute pancreatitis(SAP) patients.Methods:Thirty-five participants enrolled and were randomly assigned into either a treatment condition(n=17,treated with CQCQD) or a control condition(n=18,treated with placebo) 24 hours following the onset of the disease. No statistical difference was observed in either group at baseline.Upon admission,the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation scoreⅡ(APACHEⅡ),SAA,serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6(IL-6) were measured,as well as on the first,3rd and 7lh day and were compared between the two groups.Organ complications,infection,operation rate,mortality and hospital stay were also compared.Results:The duration of acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute hepatitis,acute renal failure,gastrointestinal failure and blood coagulation dysfunction were shorter in the treatment group than in those in the control group(P【0.05).The secondary infection rates and the hospital fees in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P【0.05) as well as length of hospital stay(P【0.01).After 3 days of hospitalization,the APACHEⅡ,score SAA levels,serum CRP and IL-6 in the treatment group was lower than those in the control group(P【0.05).SAA was positively correlated with serum CRP(R = 0.346,P = 0.042),Ranson score(R = 0.442,P = 0.008) and serum IL-6(R=0.359,P =0.034).The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of admission SAA predict pancreatic necrosis(PN) was 0.815(95%CI:0.625-0.954;P =0.006).The best cut-off value of admission SAA was 7.85 mg/L with the sensitivity 84.6%and specificity 68.2%.Conclusions:The CQCQD can reduce the duration of organ damage through lowering the SAA in SAP patients and the SAA can early predict the PN and severity of SAP patients. 展开更多

Massage therapy is an alternative treatment for chronic pain that is potentially related to brain plasticity.However,the underlying mechanism remains unclear.We established a peripheral nerve injury model in rats by unilateral sciatic nerve transection and direct anastomosis.The experimental rats were treated over the gastrocnemius muscle of the affected hindlimb with a customized massage instrument(0.45 N,120 times/min,10 minutes daily,for 4 successive weeks).Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging revealed that compared with control rats,the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations in the sensorimotor cortex contralateral to the affected limb was significantly lower after sciatic nerve transection.However,amplitudes were significantly higher in the massage group than in a sham-massage group.These findings suggest that massage therapy facilitated adaptive change in the somatosensory cortex that led to the recovery of peripheral nerve injury and repair.This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine of China(approval No.201701001)on January 12,2017. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the balance of peripheral blood T helper 17 cells/regulatory T cell(Th17/Treg)ratio and the polarization ratio of M1 and M2 macrophages in lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans(ASO).Methods:A rat model of lower extremity ASO was established,and blood samples from patients with lower extremity ASO before and after surgery were obtained.ELISA was used to detect interleukin 6(IL-6),IL-10,and IL-17.Real-time RCR and Western blot analyses were used to detect Foxp3,IL-6,IL-10,and IL-17 expression.Moreover,flow cytometry was applied to detect the Th17/Treg ratio and M1/M2 ratio.Results:Compared with the control group,the iliac artery wall of ASO rats showed significant hyperplasia,and the concentrations of cholesterol and triglyceride were significantly increased(P<0.01),indicating the successful establishment of ASO.Moreover,the levels of IL-6 and IL-17 in ASO rats were pronouncedly increased(P<0.05),while the IL-10 level was significantly decreased(P<0.05).In addition to increased IL-6 and IL-17 levels,the mRNA and protein levels of Foxp3 and IL-10 in ASO rats were significantly decreased compared with the control group.The Th17/Treg and M1/M2 ratios in the ASO group were markedly increased(P<0.05).These alternations were also observed in ASO patients.After endovascular surgery(such as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and arterial stenting),all these changes were significantly improved(P<0.05).Conclusions:The Th17/Treg and M1/M2 ratios were significantly increased in ASO,and surgery can effectively improve the balance of Th17/Treg,and reduce the ratio of M1/M2,and the expression of inflammatory factors. 展开更多

Molybdenum disulfide(MoS2)was loaded on biocarbon using waste camellia dregs(CDs)as the carbon source,which was further coated with dopamine hydrochloride to construct biocarbon/MoS2 electrode composites.The electrochemical lithium storage performance of the composites with different MoS2 contents was investigated.SEM results demonstrated that the composite had a three-dimensional foam-like structure with MoS2 as the interlayer.XRD and HRTEM tests revealed that MoS2 interlayer spacing in the composite was expanded.XPS analysis showed that new Mo—N bonds were formed in the active material.The electrochemical tests showed that the composite with a MoS2 content of 63%had a high initial specific capacity of 1434 mA·h/g at a current density of 100 mA/g.After a long cycle at a high current,it also showed good cycling stability and the capacity retention was nearly 100%.In addition,it had good lithium ion deintercalation ability in the electrochemical kinetics test. 展开更多

Composite briquettes containing high-phosphorus oolitic hematite and coal were produced with a twin-roller briquette machine using sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, molasses, starch, sodium silicate, and bentonite as binders. The effect of these binders on the strength of the composite briquettes, including cold strength and high-temperature strength, was investigated by drop testing and compression testing. It was found the addition of Ca(OH)2 and Na2CO3 not only improved the reduction of iron oxides and promoted dephosphorization during the reduction-separation process but also provided strength to the composite briquettes during the briquetting process; a compressive strength of 152.8 N per briquette was obtained when no binders were used. On this basis, the addition of molasses, sodium silicate, starch, and ben- tonite improved the cold strength of the composite briquettes, and a maximum compressive strength of 404.6 N per briquette was obtained by using starch. When subjected to a thermal treatment at 1200~C, all of the composite briquettes suffered from a sharp decrease in compressive strength during the initial reduction process. This decrease in strength was related to an increase in porosity of the composite briquettes. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses showed that the decrease in strength of the composite briquettes could be caused by four factors: decomposition of bonding materials, gasification of coal, transportation of byproduct gases in the composite briquettes, and thermal stress. 展开更多
