Based on a calibrated cyclic elasto-plastic constitutive model for liquefiable sand and Biot dynamic coupled theory, the seismic analysis was carried out by using a dynamic effective stress finite element method under plane strain condition. A recent design study was illustrated in detail for a river earth embankment subjected to seismic excitation on the saturated deposits with liquefiable sands. Simulated results of the embankment foundation during liquefaction were obtained for acceleration, displacement, and excess pore water pressures, which were considered to yield useful results for earthquake geotechnical design. The results show that the foundation soil reaches a fully liquefied state with high excess pore pressure ratios approaching to 1.0 due to the earthquake shaking. At the end of the earthquake, the extensive liquefaction causes about 1.0 m lateral spreading at the toe and 60 cm settlement at the crest of the earth embankment.展开更多

METHODS: Tumor specimens were obtained from 102 patients (75 males and 27 females) who had received an endoscopic tumor resection at Tottori University Hospital between 2007 and 2009. Ninety-one cancer samples corresponded to noninvasive or intramucosal carcinoma according to the Vienna classification system, and 11 samples were submucosal invasive carcinomas. All of the EGCs were histologically differentiated carcinomas. All patients were classified as having Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections by endoscopic atrophic changes or by testing seropositive for H. pylori IgG. All of the samples were histopathologically classified as either tubular or papillary adenocarcinoma according to their structure. The immunohistochemical staining was performed in a blinded manner with respect to the clinical information. Two independent observers evaluated protein expression. All data were statistically analyzed then. RESULTS: The rates of aberrant activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID) expression and P53 overexpression were both 34.3% in DEGCs. The expression of Mlh1 was lost in 18.6% of DEGCs. Aberrant AID expression was not significantly associated with P53 overexpression in DEGCs. However, AID expression was associated with the severity of mononuclear cell activity in the non-cancerous mucosa adjacent to the tumor (P = 0.064). The rate of P53 expression was significantly greater in flat or depressed tumors than in elevated tumors. The frequency of Mlh1 loss was significantly increased in distal tumors, elevated gross-type tumors, papillary histological-type tumors, and tumors with a severe degree of endoscopic atrophic gastritis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Aberrant AID expression, P53 overexpression, and the loss of Mlh1 were all associated with clinicopathological features and gastric mucosal alterations in DEGCs. The aberrant expression of AID protein may partly contribute to the induction of展开更多

Influences of nanometer ZrO2 particles on the mechanical properties and microstructure of Ce-TZP/Al2O3 ceramics were investigated. Meanwhile, t-—m transformation toughening mechanism was investigated by x-ray diffractometry (XRD) method, and deflection of samples under applied stress were recorded too. The results show that when the percentage of ZrO2 was 20%, the mechanical properties and microstructures of materials were preferential. Additionally, TEM observation show that dislocation structures form both in the A12O3 grain and on the A12O3 grain boundary.展开更多

We conducted an experiment using physical models and performed a numerical analysis to evaluate the new method. The physical model included: (l) concrete blocks on an artificial soil slope with two block sizes and three slopes; (2) concrete blocks bonded to the concrete base with different contact area. The LDV measurements agreed with conventional seismometer measurements. The dominant frequency of the blocks varied with the stability and dominant frequency and the amplitude varied with the block size. The numerical model was used to examine a concrete block adhered to a concrete base with different contact areas. The dominant frequency of the blocks determined using the numerical model agreed with those obtained from the physical experiments. We analyzed different sized blocks to examine the scaling effects. The dominant frequency of the blocks was inversely related to the block size. These results demonstrated the effectiveness of LDV for evaluating the stability of rock slopes and cleared the block size scaling effects.展开更多

The improved safety of administration of daily low doses of AD has already been established and this regimen is used for long-term medication. Nevertheless, asymptomatic continuous liver injury by AD may increase the risk of step-wise progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. We present an autopsy case of AD-induced liver cirrhosis in a patient who had been treated with a low dose of AD (200 rag/d) daily for 84 too. The patient was a 85-year-old male with a history of ischemic heart disease. Seven years after initiation of treatment with AD, he was admitted with cardiac congestion. The total dose of AD was 528 g. Mild elevation of serum aminotransferase and hepatomegaly were present. Liver biopsy specimens revealed cirrhosis, and under electron microscopy numerous lysosomes with electron-dense, whorled, lamellar inclusions characteristic of a secondary phospholipidosis were observed. Initially, withdrawal of AD led to a slight improvement of serum aminotransferase levels, but unfortunately his general condition deteriorated and he died from complications of pneumonia and renal failure. Long-term administration of daily low doses of AD carries the risk of progression to irreversible liver injury. Therefore, periodic examination of liver function and/or liver biopsy is required for the management of patients receiving long-term treatment with AD.展开更多
