A. annua is now cultivated globally as the only natural source of a potent anti-malarial compound, artemisinin. Here, we report a high-quality draft assembly of the 1.74-gigabase genome of A. annua, which is highly heterozygous, rich in repetitive sequences, and contains 63 226 protein-coding genes, one of the largest numbers among the sequenced plant species. We found that, as one of a few sequenced genomes in the Asteraceae, the A. annua genome contains a large number of genes specific to this large angiosperm clade. Notably, the expansion and functional diversification of genes encoding enzymes involved in terpene biosynthesis are consistent with the evolution of the artemi- sinin biosynthetic pathway. We further revealed by transcriptome profiling that A. annua has evolved the sophisticated transcriptional regulatory networks underlying artemisinin biosynthesis. Based on compre- hensive genomic and transcriptomic analyses we generated transgenic A. annua lines producing high levels of artemisinin, which are now ready for large-scale production and thereby will help meet the chal- lenge of increasing global demand of artemisinin.展开更多

The most important factors influencing phenol degradation (p 〈 0.05), as identified by a two-level Plackett-Burman design with 11 variables, were yeast extract, phenol, inoculum size, and temperature. Steepest ascent method was undertaken to determine the optimal regions of these four significant factors. Central composite design (CCD) and response surface analysis were adopted to further investigate the mutual interactions between these variables and to identify their optimal values that would generate maximum phenol degradation. The analysis results indicated that interactions between yeast extract and temperature, phenol and temperature, inocuhim size and temperature affected the response variable (phenol degradation) significantly. The predicted results showed that the maximum removal efficiency of phenol (99.10%) could be obtained under the optimum conditions of yeast extract 0.41 g/L, phenol 1.03 g/L, inoculum size 1.43% (V/V) and temperature 30.04℃. These predicted values were further verified by validation experiments. The excellent correlation between predicted and experimental values confirmed the validity and practicability of this statistical optimum strategy. This study indicated the excellent ability of C. tropicalis Z-04 in degrading high-strength phenol. Optimal conditions obtained in this experiment laid a solid foundation for further use of this microorganism in the treatment of highstrength phenol effluents.展开更多

Accurately mapping the spatial-temporal variations of NPP in China is crucial for global carbon cycling study. In this study the process-based Boreal Ecosystem Productivity Simulator (BEPS) was employed to study the changes of NPP in China's ecosystems for the period from 2000 to 2010. The BEPS model was first validated using gross primary productivity (GPP) measured at typical flux sites and forest NPP measured at different regions. Then it was driven with leaf area index (LAI) inversed from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) reflec- tance and land cover products and meteorological data interpolated from observations at753 national basic meteorological stations to simulate NPP at daily time steps and a spatial resolution of 500m from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2010. Validations show that BEPS is able to capture the seasonal variations of tower-based GPP and the spatial variability of forest NPP in different regions of China. Estimated national total of annual NPP varied from 2.63 to 2.84Pg C.yr-1, averaging 2.74Pg C.yr-1 during the study period. Simulated terrestrial NPP shows spatial patterns decreasing from the east to the west and from the south to the north, in association with land cover types and climate. South-west China makes the largest contribution to the national total of NPP while NPP in the North-west account for only 3.97% of the national total. During the recent 11 years, the temporal changes of NPP were heterogamous. NPP increased in 63.8% of China's landmass, mainly in areas north of the Yangtze River and decreased in most areas of southern China, owing to the low temperature freezing in early 2008 and the severe drought in late 2009.展开更多

The results indicated that vegetation coverage in Inner Mongolia showed obvious longitudinal zonality, increasing from west to east across the region with a change rate of 0.2/10N. During 2001-2010, the mean vegetation coverage was 0.57, 0.4 and 0.16 in forest, grassland and desert biome, respectively, exhibiting evident spatial heterogeneities. Totally, vegetation coverage had a slight increasing trend during the study period. Across Inner Mongolia, the area of which the vegetation coverage showed extremely significant and significant increase accounted for 11.25% and 29.13% of the area of whole region, respectively, while the area of which the vegetation coverage showed extremely significant and significant decrease accounted for 7.65% and 26.61%, respectively. On interannual time scale, precipitation was the dominant driving force of vegetation coverage for the whole region. On inter-monthly scale, the change of vegetation coverage was consistent with both the change of temperature and precipitation, implying that the vegetation growth within a year is more sensitive to the combined effects of water and heat rather than either single climate factor. The vegetation coverage in forest biome was mainly driven by temperature on both inter-annual and inter-monthly scales, while that in desert biome was mainly influenced by precipitation on both the two temporal scales. In grassland biome, the yearly vegetation coverage had a better correlation with precipitation, while the monthly vegetation coverage was influenced by both temperature and precipitation. In grassland bi- ome, the impacts of precipitation on monthly vegetation coverage showed time-delay effects.展开更多

Many plants and animals show water-repellent properties with fine micro-structures, such as lotus leaf, water skipper and wings of butterfly. Inspired by these special surfaces, the artificial superhydrophobic surfaces have attracted wide attention in both basic research and industrial applications. The wetting properties of superhydrophobic surfaces in nature are affected by the chemical compositions and the surface topographies. So it is possible to realize the biomimetic superhydrophobic surfaces by tuning their surface roughness and surface free energy correspondingly. This review briefly introduces the physical-chemical basis of superhydrophobic plant surfaces in nature to explain how the superhydrophobicity of plant surfaces can be applied to different biomimetic functional materials with relevance to technological applications. Then, three classical effects of natural surfaces are classified: lotus effect, salvinia effect, and petal effect, and the promising strategies to fabricate biomimetic su- perhydrophobic materials are highlighted. Finally, the prospects and challenges of this area in the future are proposed.展开更多

To promote a vision of theprocess industry with efficient, green, and smart production, modern information technology should beutilized throughout the entire optimization process for production, management, and marketing. To focuson smart equipment in manufacturing processes, as well as on the adaptive intelligent optimization of themanufacturing process, operating mode, and supply chain management, we put forward several key scien-tific problems in engineering in a demand-driven and application-oriented manner, namely:intelligentsensing and integration of all process information, including production and management information; collaborative decision-making in the supply chain, industry chain, and value chain, driven by knowledge; cooperative control and optimization of plant-wide production processes via human-cyber-physical in-teraction; and Q life-cycle assessments for safety and environmental footprint monitoring, in addition totracing analysis and risk control. In order to solve these limitations and core scientific problems, we furtherpresent fundamental theories and key technologies for smart and optimal manufacturing in the processindustry. Although this paper discusses the process industry in China, the conclusions in this paper can beextended to the larocess industry around the world.展开更多

However, the functional characteristics of these cells that are associated with the outcome of chronic HBV infection remain unknown. We comprehensively investigated the frequency, phenotype, and function of peripheral B-cell subsets from CHB patients in different phases: immune tolerance (IT), immune activation (IA), immune clearance (IC), responders with HBsAg seroconversion (resolved patients, RP), and healthy controls (HC). IA patients displayed lower percentages of peripheral blood memory B cells compared with the other groups. Overall polyclonal activation of B cells, indicated by higher levels of activation markers and secretion of IgG and IgM, was observed in IA patients. This B-cell hyperactivation could be induced by increased IFN-a and soluble CD40 ligands in IA patients. Notably, the expression of the co-stimulator molecule CD80 and serum HBsAb and the frequency of HBsAg-specific B cells were significantly decreased in IT, IA, and IC patients compared with HC subjects. More importantly, the B-cell hyperactivation, co-stimulatory molecule downregulation and HBsAg-specific B-cell impairment were reversed in RP patients. The reversal of B-cell hyperactivation and functional impairment is associated with HBsAg seroconversion in chronic hepatitis B patients.展开更多

When the pouring temperature is close to the liquidus temperature, the primary alpha -Al in 'the billets of AlSi7Mg alloy solidified into spherical and nodular fine grains distributed homogeneously. The optimum pouring temperature for semi-solid AlSi7Mg billet with spherical or nodular primary alpha -Al is 615 degreesC. At the same pouring temperature, the higher the pouring ladle, the more easily the spherical and nodular primary alpha -Al obtained in the semi-solid AlSi7Mg billet. When the pouring temperature is close to the liquidus temperature and the pouring ladle is relatively high, it is the great cooling rate, the flow of the molten allay caused by pouring and the large simultaneous solidification region induced by the near liquidus temperature, that promote the formation of spherical or nodular primary cr-Al.展开更多

The prevailing models for sharp Goss texture formation during secondary recrystallization are CSL (coincident site lattice) boundary theory and HE (high energy) boundary theory. These theories stress the key factor of preferred growth and the difference between them only lies in the specific selection manner. This work examined the texture gradient in primarily recrystallized sheet and demonstrated its possible influence on the formation of secondary grains, and then determined the micro- texture during different stages of secondary recrystallization using EI3SD (electron back-scattered diffraction) technique, finally analyzed a special type of secondary grains with near Brass orientation, which were detected in the later stage of secondary recrystallization, and discussed its origin and effect in terms of surface energy effect. The results indicate that texture gradient in primarily recrystallized sheet will lead to a multi-stage formation of Goss texture, namely, early stage of secondary grains with various orientations in subsurface region, intermediate stage of preferred growth of Goss grains into center layer and re-grow back to the surface and the final stage of Goss grain growth by swallowing slowly the island grains with the help of H2 atmosphere.展开更多

文摘Background:Over the past four decades, the Chinese government has conducted three surveys on the distribution of causes of death and built cancer registration. In order to shine a new light on better cancer prevention strategies in China,we evaluated the profile of cancer mortality over the forty years and analyzed the policies that have been implemented. Methods:We described spatial and temporal changes in both cancer mortality and the ranking of major cancer types in China based on the data collected from three national surveys during 1973-1975,1990-1992,2004-2005,and the latest cancer registration data published by National Central Cancer Registry of China. The mortality data were compared after conversion to age-standardized mortality rates based on the world standard population(Segi’s population). The geographical distribution characteristics were explored by marking hot spots of different cancers on the map of China. Results:From 1973 to 2016,China witnessed an evident decrease in mortality rate of stomach, esophageal, and cervical cancer, while a gradual increase was recorded in lung, colorectal, and female breast cancer.A slight decrease of mortality rate has been observed in liver cancer since 2004.Lung and liver cancer, however, have become the top two leading causes of cancer death for the last twenty years. From the three national surveys, similar profiles of leading causes of cancer death were observed among both urban and rural areas.Lowermortality rates from esophageal and stomach cancer, however, have been demonstrated in urban than in rural areas.Rural areas had similar mortality rates of the five leading causes of cancer death with the small urban areas in 1973-1975.Additionally,rural areas in 2016 also had approximate mortality rates of the five leading causes with urban areas in 2004-2005.Moreover,stomach,esophageal,and liver cancer showed specific geographical distributions.Althoughmortality rates have decreased atmost of the hotspots of these cancers, they were still higher than the national average levels

文摘The vegetation coverage dynamics and its relationship with climate factors on different spatial and temporal scales in Inner Mongolia during 2001-2010 were analyzed based on MODIS-NDVI data and climate data. In grassland bi- ome, the impacts of precipitation on monthly vegetation coverage showed time-delay effects.

文摘Chang’E-3 landed on the east of Sinus Iridum area on December 14,2013,performing China’s first successful soft landing on the lunar surface. We present the results on precision orbit determination and positioning of the lander and the rover. We describe the data, modeling, and methods used to achieve position knowledge over the period December 2–21,2014.In addition to the radiometric X-band range and Doppler tracking data, delta differential one-way ranging data are also used in the calculation, which show that they strongly improve the accuracy of the orbit reconstruction.Total position overlap differences are about 20 and 30 m for the 100 km 9 100 km and100 km9 15 km lunar orbit, respectively, increased by*50%with respect to CE-2 and at the same level as other lunar spacecrafts of recent era such as SELENE and lunar reconnaissance orbiter(LRO).The position error of the soft landing trajectory is less than 100 m.A kinematic statistical method is applied to determine the position of the lander and relative position of the rover with respect to the lander. The position difference of the lander is better than50 m compared to LRO photograph result.Compared with the delta very long baseline interferometry(VLBI)group delay between the lander and the rover, the delta VLBI phase delay can improve the relative position of the rover from*1,000 to*1 m.

文摘Nature is a huge gallery of art involving nearly perfect structures and properties over the millions of years of development. Finally, the prospects and challenges of this area in the future are proposed.
文摘Given the significant requirements for transforming and promoting the process industry, we present themajor limitations of current petrochemical enterprises, including limitations in decision-making, produc-tion operation, efficiency and security, information integration, and so forth. Although this paper discusses the process industry in China, the conclusions in this paper can beextended to the larocess industry around the world.

文摘Both the academic society and the industry are hunting for new energy forms for the future. However, the world should not forget the conventional technologies that contribute to the sustainable society by technical innovations.Among them, lubrication plays a significant role in energy saving and in low CO2emission by increasing the fuel efficiency and by prolonging the service life of machines. With the advance of novel synthetic approaches, and nanoscience and technologies, novel lubrication oils and additives and their formulations are being developed to reduce friction and wear, and novel surface treatment routes and surface coatings are invented and provide more efficient lubrication. These technologies create tremendous chances for machines to work more efficiently with low energy consumption. Here we review the recent progresses and challenges associated with some novel lubrication techniques that include novel surface treatment(such as texturing,high-performance nanocomposite coatings, adapting coating),tribology design(solid and liquid lubrication),energy-conserving engine oil and novel lubricants and formula(such as ionic liquids, low S,P content additives)which are to be adopted to enhance the fuel efficiency to achieve energy saving and low carbon emission. There is increased demand to replace fossil lubricants by degradable green lubricants.Specially designed coatings can reduce drag significantly during navigation of both airplanes and ships. All these aspects will be also reviewed in the paper.

文摘Forests are crucial terrestrial ecosystems.Their leaf area index (LAI) is a key parameter determining the exchange of matter and energy between the atmosphere and the ground surface. In this study,MOD 09A1 and MCD 43A1 data were input into an inversion model based on the 4-scale geometric optical model to retrieve 8-d 500 m LAI products in China during the period 2000 to 2010.The resulting LAI product was validated using LAI measured in 6 typical areas. The spatial and temporal variations of forest LAI and its relationships with temperature and precipitation were analyzed. The results show that the accuracy of the 500 m LAI product was above 70% in the 6 typical areas, indicating the reliability of this product. From 2000 to 2010,forest LAI in northeast, north, and south central China showed increasing trends. However, forest LAI in southeast and parts of southwest China showed downward trends, mainly because of the significant decrease observed during the period 2008 to 2010.Annual mean forest LAI positively correlated with annual mean temperature (AMT) in northeastern China and negatively correlated with AMT in southwest China. It had positive correlations with annual total precipitation in central south and north China. The abnormal climate conditions in 2001 and 2009 caused forest LAI to be obviously lower than normal in regions south of the Qinling Mountains and Huaihe River.Annual mean LAI decreased by more than 1.0 in some areas.

文摘The Songliao Basin is the largest oil-bearing basin in China. In the absence of sufficient evidence, the possibility of seawater incursion(s) into the Songliao Basin remains controversial.Recently,we discovered relatively abundant foraminifera fossils from units 1 and 2 of the Nenjiang Formation of borehole SK-1.Benthic foraminifera (Gavlinella sp.,Anomalinoides sp.,Pullenia sp.,Haplophragmoides sp.,Karrorulina hokkaidoana,Clavulinoides sp.),as well as planktonic foraminifera (Archaeoglobigerina blowi,Archaeoglobigerina cretacea and Hedbergella flandrini),were identified. These fossils were widely distributed in the marine Cretaceous.According to the global distribution of the above-mentioned planktonic foraminifera, the age of these fossil bearing strata appears to be Late Coniacian to Santonian.More importantly, these foraminifera provide direct evidence for marine water incursions into the Songliao Basin during deposition of the Lower Nenjiang Formation.

文摘Equimolar quinary diboride powders, with nominal composition of(Ti0.2 Hf0.2 Zr0.2 Nb0.2 Ta0.2)B2,were synthesized by boro/carbothermal reduction(BCTR)of oxide mixtures(MOx,M=Ti,Hf,Zr,Nb and Ta)using B4 C as source of B and C in vacuum.By adjusting the B4 C/MOxratios,diboride mixtures without detectable MOxwere obtained at 1600℃,while high-entropy diboride(HEB)powders with particle size of<1μm was obtained at 1800℃.The phase, morphology and solid solution evolution process of the HEB powders during the BCTR process were comprehensively investigated.Although X-ray diffraction pattern indicated the powders synthesized at 1800℃ were in a single-phase Al B2 structure, elemental mappings showed that(Ta,Ti)-rich and(Zr,Nb)-rich solid solution coexisted in the HEB powders. The distribution of niobium and zirconium atoms in HEB was unable to reach uniform until the HEB powders were spark plasma sintered at 2000°C.(Ti0.2 Hf0.2 Zr0.2 Nb0.2 Ta0.2)B2 ceramics with a relative density of 97.9%were obtained after spark plasma sintering the HEB powders at 2050℃ under 50 MPa.Rapid grain growth was found in this composition when the sintering temperature was increased from 2000 to 2050℃,and the averaged grain size increased from 6.67 to 41.2μm.HEB ceramics sintered at 2000℃ had a Vickers hardness of 22.44±0.56 GPa(under a load of 1 kg),a Young’s modulus of^500 GPa and a fracture toughness of 2.83±0.15 MPa m1/2.This is the first report for obtaining high density HEB ceramics without residual oxide phase, benefiting from the high quality HEB powders obtained.
文摘B cells play an important role in the clearance of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and protection against reinfection. The reversal of B-cell hyperactivation and functional impairment is associated with HBsAg seroconversion in chronic hepatitis B patients.
文摘The present work investigates the influences of microalloying with rare earths on the mechanical properties of magnesium alloys. The amount of each rare earth element is controlled below 0.4 wt.%in order not to increase the cost of alloy largely. The synergic effects from the multi-microalloying with rare earths on the mechanical properties are explored. The obtained results show that the as-cast magnesium alloys multi-microalloying with rare earths possesses a quite high ductility with a tensile strain up to 25-30%at room temperature. Moreover, these alloys exhibit much better corrosion resistance than AZ31 alloy. The preliminary in situ neutron diffractions on the deformation of these alloys indicate that the multi-microalloying with rare earths seems to be beneficial for the activation of more slip systems. The deformation becomes more homogeneous and the resultant textures after deformation are weakened.

文摘The effect of different pouring temperatures and different pouring heights, the distance between the mouth of the pouring ladle and the top of the mold, on the microstructure of AlSi7Mg alloy have been researched in the paper. When the pouring temperature is close to the liquidus temperature and the pouring ladle is relatively high, it is the great cooling rate, the flow of the molten allay caused by pouring and the large simultaneous solidification region induced by the near liquidus temperature, that promote the formation of spherical or nodular primary cr-Al.

文摘The understanding of Goss texture in Hi-B electrical steels possesses significant industrial and academic value, thus attracts worldwide attention. The results indicate that texture gradient in primarily recrystallized sheet will lead to a multi-stage formation of Goss texture, namely, early stage of secondary grains with various orientations in subsurface region, intermediate stage of preferred growth of Goss grains into center layer and re-grow back to the surface and the final stage of Goss grain growth by swallowing slowly the island grains with the help of H2 atmosphere.

文摘Articular cartilage defect repair is a problem that has long plagued clinicians.Although mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)have the potential to regenerate articular cartilage, they also have many limitations.Recent studies have found that MSC-derived exosomes(MSC-Exos)play an important role in tissue regeneration. The purpose of this study was to verify whether MSC-Exos can enhance the reparative effect of the acellular cartilage extracellular matrix(ACECM)scaffold and to explore the underlying mechanism. The results of in vitro experiments show that human umbilical cord Wharton’s jelly MSC-Exos(hWJMSC-Exos)can promote the migration and proliferation of bone marrow-derived MSCs(BMSCs)and the proliferation of chondrocytes. We also found that hWJMSC-Exos can promote the polarization of macrophages toward the M2 phenotype. The results of a rabbit knee osteochondral defect repair model confirmed that hWJMSC-Exos can enhance the effect of the ACECM scaffold and promote osteochondral regeneration. We demonstrated that hWJMSC-Exos can regulate the microenvironment of the articular cavity using a rat knee joint osteochondral defect model. This effect was mainly manifested in promoting the polarization of macrophages toward the M2 phenotype and inhibiting the inflammatory response, which may be a promoting factor for osteochondral regeneration. In addition, microRNA(miRNA)sequencing confirmed that hWJMSC-Exos contain many miRNAs that can promote the regeneration of hyaline cartilage. We further clarified the role of hWJMSC-Exos in osteochondral regeneration through target gene prediction and pathway enrichment analysis. In summary, this study confirms that hWJMSC-Exos can enhance the effect of the ACECM scaffold and promote osteochondral regeneration.
