To study the temperature distribution and thermal-stress field in different service stages, a two-dimensional model of a turbine blade with thermal barrier coatings is developed, in which the conjugate heat transfer analysis and the decoupled thermal-stress calculation method are adopted. Based on the simulation results, it is found that a non-uniform distribution of temperature appears in different positions of the blade surface, which has directly impacted on stress field. The maximum temperature with a value of 1030 ℃ occurs at the leading edge. During the steady stage, the maximum stress of thermally grown oxide (TGO) appears in the middle of the suction side, reaching 3.75 GPa. At the end stage of cooling, the maximum compressive stress of TGO with a value of-3.5 GPa occurs at the leading edge. Thus, it can be predicted that during the steady stage the dangerous regions may locate at the suction side, while the leadine edge mav be more Drone to failure on cooling. 展开更多

Effect of pre-induced twinning on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of extruded Mg-9.26Gd-2.08Y-0.36Zr(GW92K)alloy have been investigated during multi-direction forging with large strains at decreasing temperature from 400℃ to 300℃.The results showed that,whether there pre-induced twinning existing in the initial microstructure by pre-deformation or not,a mixed microstructure of residual coarse grains and notably refined grains formed under both conditions,combing with some residual coarse grains with less deformation inside grains and lots of dispersed nano-precipitates distributed along refined grain boundaries.However,a significant improvement with the tensile ductility was obtained by the pre-induced twinning in the former alloy.It was suggested that,the pre-induced twinning largely contributed to the grain refinement and lead to an increase in the ratio of fine grain structure which would be responsible for the better properties.Furthermore,during subsequent forging deformation in the pre-deformed sample,the grain refinement mechanism by gradual grain orientation rotation around the surface section in residual coarse-grains was a little different from that by the macro-shear deformation in the as-extruded condition. 展开更多

With the development of cold region engineering,it is crucial to study the mechanical properties of frozen soil.In practice,frozen soil is inevitably subject to impact loading,making the study of frozen soil under impact loading necessary for engineering in cold regions.The split–Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)is an important experimental means for obtaining the dynamic performance of materials.In this study,an SHPB experiment was conducted on frozen soil under confining pressure.The frozen soil exhibited an evident strain rate effect and temperature effect under confining pressure.The SHPB experiment on frozen soil under confining pressure was simulated numerically using LS-DYNA software and the Holmquist–Johnson–Cook(HJC)material model.A loading simulation with passive confining pressure and active confining pressure was completed by adding an aluminum sleeve and applying a constant load.The simulation results obtained using the above methods were in good agreement with the experimental results.The strength of the frozen soil under confining pressure was greater than that of the uniaxial impact,and there was an evident confining pressure effect.Furthermore,the confining pressure provided by passive confinement was larger than that provided by active confinement.The passive confining pressure energy absorption efficiency was higher than for the active confining pressure due to the need to absorb more energy under the same damage conditions.The frozen soil exhibited viscoplastic failure characteristics under confining pressure. 展开更多

The dynamic compressive deformation of frozen soil was investigated by conducting the split-Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)experiments at three temperatures and different high strain rates,and the dynamic stress–strain responses and failure modes of the frozen soil were analyzed.The experimental results demonstrate that the frozen soil exhibits evident dependence on the strain rate and temperature under the dynamic loading condition.The dynamic compressive stress–strain curve of the frozen soil was divided into three parts:the linear,nonlinear rising,and strain softening parts.The nonlinear rising and strain softening parts were both caused by the damage attributed to the debonding between the ice particles and soil matrix,from which a rate-dependent damage evolution equation was obtained.Moreover,a damage-coupled dynamic viscoelastic constitutive model of frozen soil at high strain rate was derived.A comparison between the theoretically predicted results and the experimental ones showed that the developed dynamic viscoelastic model could well describe the dynamic mechanical behavior of frozen soil at high strain rate. 展开更多

SiC nanowires and SiC/SiO2 core-shell structural nanowires were synthesized via a simple thermal evaporation of CoxSiy melts at the temperature of 1500?C. The morphologies and yields of those SiC nanowires can be tuned by altering the composition of CoxSiy. Nanowires obtained by thermal evaporation of Co Si are composed of SiC/SiO2 core-shell nanostructures with lengths up to several hundreds of micrometers, diameters of 4050 nm, and the thickness of amorphous SiO2 wrapping shell about 20 nm. SiC nanowires prepared by thermal evaporation of Co Si2 and Co2 Si melt are found to be hexagonal-prism-shaped nanorods, and the diameter of those nanorods is about 150 nm and the length is about 10 microns. All the SiC nanowires obtained possess [111] preferred growth direction with a high density stacking faults and twin defects. Taking into consideration the binary alloy diagram of Co Si and the participation of oxygen, we propose the vapor-solid growth mechanism of SiC nanowires and discuss the effect of the supersaturation of Si O on the morphology and yields of SiC nanowires. 展开更多

Landfll is one of the major methods in disposing of municipal solid waste(MSW) in Hong Kong. There are now 13 closed landfll sites in Hong Kong, and a restoration program has been launched since 1999 to transform the closed landfll sites back into recreational area. The MSW underneath these closed landfll sites will biodegrade slowly and gradually, releasing toxic gases and leachate. As there have only been a few afteruse development ever completed in Hong Kong, this paper describes the consideration in planning and design of two former landfll sites in Hong Kong–Ngau Chi Wan(NCW) and Jordan Valley(JV) landflls, in particular a discussion on the MSW settlement. Various models in predicting the longterm MSW settlement have been available. This paper reviews the applicability of these models to predict MSW settlement. However, as the predicted settlements can be signifcantly in error, they need sitespecifc calibration and validation. This paper therefore presents the settlement monitoring data in these former landfll sites over the last 30 years, and suggests modifying the Bjarngard and Edgers’ method for estimating this long-term settlement as well as the effect of additional surcharge due to afteruse development. Based on the regression of these data, compression indices Cce and C at different stages of the settlement in the modifed method have been calibrated and validated. 展开更多

Because of its superior safety and excellent processability,solid polymer electrolytes(SPEs)have attracted widespread attention.In lithium based batteries,SPEs have great prospects in replacing leaky and flammable liquid electrolytes.However,the low ionic conductivity of SPEs cannot meet the requirements of high energy density systems,which is also an important obstacle to its practical application.In this respect,escalating charge carriers(i.e.Li^(+))and Li^(+)transport paths are two major aspects of improving the ionic conductivity of SPEs.This article reviews recent advances from the two perspectives,and the underlying mechanism of these proposed strategies is discussed,including increasing the Li^(+)number and optimizing the Li^(+)transport paths through increasing the types and shortening the distance of Li^(+)transport path.It is hoped that this article can enlighten profound thinking and open up new ways to improve the ionic conductivity of SPEs. 展开更多

The full array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory(LHAASO)has been in operation since July 2021.For its kilometer-square array(KM2A),we optimized the selection criteria for very high and ultrahigh energyγ-rays using data collected from August 2021 to August 2022,resulting in an improvement in significance of the detection in the Crab Nebula of approximately 15%,compared with that of previous cuts.With the implementation of these new selection criteria,the angular resolution was also significantly improved by approximately 10%at tens of TeV.Other aspects of the full KM2A array performance,such as the pointing error,were also calibrated using the Crab Nebula.The resulting energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula in the energy range of 10-1000 TeV are well fitted by a log-parabola model,which is consistent with the previous results from LHAASO and other experiments. 展开更多

Management of a Retained Epidural Catheter in a Pregnant Patient: A Case Report and Review of Literature

Case Presentation... Background: Epidural anesthesia is an effective intervention to treat labor pain and provide analgesia for orthopedic procedures. A rare complication of this technique is epidural catheter retention. Case Presentation: In this case report, we present an otherwise healthy 21-year-old G2P0010 woman at 39 weeks and 3 days gestation whose anesthetic management was complicated by a symptomatic retained epidural catheter fragment. Computed tomography (CT) imaging of her spine showed the fractured catheter within her paraspinal muscles and neurosurgery recommended no surgical intervention at that time. The patient reported resolution of back pain while in the postpartum unit which she continues to endorse two weeks after discharge. Conclusion: Retained epidural catheter is a medical emergency that requires immediate imaging and neurological evaluation. While magnetic resonance imaging is typically regarded as the standard imaging modality for this complication, in epidural sets that contain metallic components, we suggest using CT to avoid the risk of thermal nerve damage. In cases where the patient does not report any acute complaints, nonsurgical management may be appropriate but close follow-up is required to monitor for catheter migration. 展开更多

Background: Polyamines stimulate DNA transcription and m RNA translation for protein synthesis in trophectoderm cells, as well as proliferation and migration of cells; therefore, they are essential for development and survival of conceptuses(embryo/fetus and placenta). The ovine conceptus produces polyamines via classical and non-classical pathways. In the classical pathway, arginine(Arg) is transformed into ornithine, which is then decarboxylated by ornithine decarboxylase(ODC1) to produce putrescine which is the substrate for the production of spermidine and spermine. In the non-classical pathway, Arg is converted to agmatine(Agm) by arginine decarboxylase(ADC), and Agm is converted to putrescine by agmatinase(AGMAT).Methods: Morpholino antisense oligonucleotides(MAOs) were designed and synthesized to inhibit translational initiation of the m RNAs for ODC1 and ADC, in ovine conceptuses.Results: The morphologies of MAO control, MAO-ODC1, and MAO-ADC conceptuses were normal. Double knockdown of ODC1 and ADC(MAO-ODC1:ADC) resulted in two phenotypes of conceptuses; 33% of conceptuses appeared to be morphological y and functional y normal(phenotype a) and 67% of the conceptuses presented an abnormal morphology and functionality(phenotype b). Furthermore, MAO-ODC1:ADC(a) conceptuses had greater tissue concentrations of Agm,putrescine, and spermidine than MAO control conceptuses, while MAO-ODC1:ADC(b) conceptuses only had greater tissue concentrations of Agm. Close-space sublimation(CSS)has been demonstrated as an alternative vacuum deposition technique for fabricating organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs).CSS utilizes a planar donor plate pre-coated with organic thin films as an area source to rapidly transfer the donor film to a device substrate at temperatures below 200℃.CSS is also conformal and capable of depositing on odd-shaped substrates using flexible donor media.The evaporation behaviors of organic donor films under CSS were fully characterized using model OLED materials and CSS-deposited films exhibited comparable device performances in an OLED stack to films deposited by conventional point sources.The low temperature and conformal nature of CSS,along with its high material utilization and short process time,make it a promising method for fabricating flexible OLED displays. 展开更多

A model for describing the adsorption process of hydrogen on surface of tungsten oxide was proposed based on the first-principle calculations. Multiple factors such as type of active surface, adsorption site and distribution of oxygen vacancies were considered to evaluate the hydrogen adsorption capability of tungsten oxide. The adsorption Gibbs free energies, electronic structures and bonding characteristics under various conditions were examined to reveal the influence of oxygen vacancies on the surface. It is found that the capability of hydrogen adsorption of tungsten oxide can be significantly enhanced by adjusting the oxygen vacancy on the outermost layer of certain active surfaces. The modeling predicts that the surface structure stability and gas adsorption ability of tungsten oxide can be simultaneously improved through the formation of W–H bonds. The proposed strategy for moderating surface provides a new approach to obtain excellent gas-sensitive metal oxide materials. 展开更多
