The objective of this study was to develop, as well as validate the strongly coupled method (two-way fluid structural interaction (FSI)) used to simulate the transient FSI response of the vertical axis tidal turbine (VATT) rotor, subjected to spatially varying inflow. Moreover, this study examined strategies on improving techniques used for mesh deformation that account for large displacement or deformation calculations. The blade's deformation for each new time step is considered in transient two-way FSI analysis, to make the design more reliable. Usually this is not considered in routine one-way FSI simulations. A rotor with four blades and 4-m diameter was modeled and numerically analyzed. We observed that two-way FSI, utilizing the strongly coupled method, was impossible for a complex model; and thereby using ANSYS-CFX and ANSYS-MECHANICAL in work bench, as given in ANSYS-WORKBENCH, helped case examples 22 and 23, by giving an error when the solution was run. To make the method possible and reduce the computational power, a novel technique was used to transfer the file in ANSYS-APDL to obtain the solution and results. Consequently, the results indicating a two-way transient FSI analysis is a time- and resource-consuming job, but with our proposed technique we can reduce the computational time. The ANSYS STRUCTURAL results also uncover that stresses and deformations have higher values for two-way FSI as compared to one-way FSI. Similarly, fluid flow CFX results for two-way FSI are closer to experimental results as compared to one-way simulation results. Additionally, this study shows that, using the proposed method we can perform coupled simulation with simple multi-node PCs (core i5). 展开更多

Oxygen evolution reaction(OER),as an important half‐reaction involved in water splitting,has been intensely studied since the last century.Transition metal phosphide and sulfide‐based compounds have attracted increasing attention as active OER catalysts due to their excellent physical and chemical characters,and massive efforts have been devoted to improving the phosphide and sulfide‐based materials with better activity and stability in recent years.In this review,the recent progress on phosphide and sulfide‐based OER electrocatalysts in terms of chemical properties,synthetic methodologies,catalytic performances evaluation and improvement strategy is reviewed.The most accepted reaction pathways as well as the thermodynamics and electrochemistry of the OER are firstly introduced in brief,followed by a summary of the recent research and optimization strategy of phosphide and sulfide‐based OER electrocatalysts.Finally,some mechanistic studies of the active phase of phosphide and sulfide‐based compounds are discussed to give insight into the nature of active catalytic sites.It is expected to indicate guidance for further improving the performances of phosphide and sulfide‐based OER electrocatalysts. 展开更多

The electronic structure of catalytic active sites can be influenced by modulating the coordination bonding of the central single metal atom,but it is difficult to achieve.Herein,we reported the single Zn-atom incorporated dual doped P,N carbon framework(Zn-N_(4)P/C)for ORR via engineering the surrounding coordination environment of active centers.The Zn-N_(4)P/C catalyst exhibited comparable ORR activity(E_(1/2)=0.86 V)and significantly better ORR stability than that of Pt/C catalyst.It also shows respectable performance in terms of maximum peak power density(249.6 mW cm^(-2)),specific capacitance(779 mAh g^(-1)),and charge-discharge cycling stability for 150 hours in Zn-air battery.The high catalytic activity is attributed to the uniform active sites,tunable electronic/geometric configuration,optimized intrinsic activity,and faster mass transfer during ORR-pathway.Further,theoretical results exposed that the Zn-N_(4)P configuration is more electrochemically active as compared to Zn-N_(4) structure for the oxygen reduction reaction. 展开更多

The most important aspect of every civil engineering project is acquiring reliable information on the ground on which the project will be constructed. This research includes a site investigation, which is seen as a primary stage in gathering geological, geotechnical, and other essential engineering data for structures’ safe and cost-effective design. Five boreholes at well-spaced spots were drilled for subsurface investigation at a maximum depth of 15 m to 30 m. The standard penetration tests (SPT) were performed at different depths, soil samples were taken at various intervals, and lithological changes were observed. The friction angle was between 19.6&#186;and 33.03&#186;, whereas the cohesion ranges between 0.25 kg/cm<sup>2</sup> and 0.42 kg/cm<sup>2</sup>, indicating a strong resistance to shearing and a high capacity to sustain the load. Furthermore, the soil samples’ maximum dry density ranges from 1.63 g/cm<sup>3</sup> to 1.80 g/cm<sup>3</sup>. In addition, water table depths were recorded from 6.0 m to 7.0 m. The net bearing capacity for isolated/pad foundation at a depth of 1.5 m to 2.5 m below the ground level has been calculated as 95.0 to 120.0 kPa and 120.0 to 180.0 kPa for raft foundation. The net allowable pressure settlement limits for isolated/pad and raft foundations are 25 mm (1-inch) and 50 mm (2-inches), respectively. The investigation has found no severe geological flaws on the proposed construction site, and therefore it is appropriate for the construction of an Air Separation Unit (ASU) Oxygen Plant. 展开更多

The surface of a road is affected by snow, compacted snow, and ice, which affects the traffic behavior. In this paper, a new macroscopic traffic flow model based on the transition velocity distribution is proposed which characterizes traffic alignment under adverse weather conditions. Two examples are considered to illustrate the effect of the transition velocity behavior on traffic velocity and density. Simulation results are presented which show that this model provides a more accurate characterization of traffic flow behavior than the well known Payne-Whitham model. The proposed model can be used to reduce accidents and improve road safety during adverse weather conditions. 展开更多

科学研究表明精神疾病与饮酒具有较强的关联性,但这种关联的具体影响仍未被清楚地揭示。为了促进公共卫生的发展和临床干预治疗的进行,我们试图探讨精神疾病与饮酒的因果关系。基于全基因组关联性研究的最新公开统计数据,我们进行了两... 科学研究表明精神疾病与饮酒具有较强的关联性,但这种关联的具体影响仍未被清楚地揭示。为了促进公共卫生的发展和临床干预治疗的进行,我们试图探讨精神疾病与饮酒的因果关系。基于全基因组关联性研究的最新公开统计数据,我们进行了两样本孟德尔随机化分析。研究对象涉及5种主要精神障碍(重度抑郁症,双相情感障碍,精神分裂症,自闭症谱系障碍,注意力缺陷多动障碍)以及酒精饮用(酒精依赖,酒精问题和每天饮酒次数)。主要分析方法为逆方差加权、MR-Egger回归分析、加权中位数分析以及MR-PRESSO,被进一步用作敏感性分析。我们发现了精神分裂症与酒精依赖(IVW beta=0.1585,95%CI在0.0584~0.2587,P=0.0019)和每天饮酒次数(IVW beta=-0.01314,95%CI在-0.02187~-0.004417,P=0.0032)之间存在因果关联。另外,自闭症谱系障碍(IVW beta=0.4259,95%CI在-0.7848~-0.06705,P=0.020)和注意力缺陷多动障碍(IVW beta=0.2257,95%CI在0.02383~0.4275,P=0.028)对酒精依赖也存在潜在的因果关联。我们的结果表明了精神分裂症和注意力缺陷多动障碍会增加酒精依赖的风险,同时也揭示精神分裂症与酒精饮用之间的因果关系,以及从自闭症谱系障碍和注意力缺陷多动障碍对于酒精使用的潜在因果关系。 展开更多

Inhibitory Effects of Several Fluoroquinolones on Feline CYP1A and 3A in Hepatic Microsomes

In this study, the effects of several fluoroquinolones (FQs), such as Ciprofloxacin (CPFX);Orbifloxacin (OBFX);Norfloxacin (NFX);Ofloxacin (OFX);and Enerofloxacin (EFX) on activities of both Cytochrome P450 1A (CYP1A) and Cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A) of feline microsomes by <i>in vitro</i> tests were studied. Ethoxyresorufin O-deethylation (EROD) and Midazolam 1' hydroxylation and 4-hydroxylation (MDZ1'H and MDZ4H) were analyzed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). All the FQs inhibited the reactions by a competitive or noncompetitive and irreversible manner. The inhibitory constants (K<sub>i</sub>) were as followings: CYP1A;ranged from 0.12 to 1.23 mM for NFX, OBFX, EFX, CPFX, OFX and CYP3A, for MDZ1'H;ranged from 5.8 to 35 and MDZ4H;9 to 29 mM, respectively. As these values are higher by 24 to 200-times of given single clinical dose of serum levels after application of FQs. It indicates that if co-administrated with these FQs by reversible inhibitory manner, the inhibition of CYP1A and CYP3A effect on CYP1A and 3A actions is not very significant to cause drug interaction with above mentioned enzyme substrates. Out of the FQs tested, CPFX and NFX for CYP1A, and CPFX for CYP3A showed irreversible inhibitory effects (time-dependent), so it has been concluded that these drugs may cause drug-drug interaction by accumulation, when they are repeatedly administrated. Since EFX is biotransformed to CPFX by the liver, it could have the identical risk too. 展开更多

Re-Use of Hospital Plastic Waste in Asphalt Mixes as Partial Replacement of Coarse Aggregate

Open dumping of waste also destroys valuable agricultural land. Various researchers have beneficially used plastic waste in cement concrete and asphalt concrete in the past. This study aims at the use of aggregates, made from different types of plastic waste, as partial replacement of coarse aggregates in asphalt mixes. For this purpose waste is collected from different hospitals of the city. Sorted plastic from the waste consists of 64% low density polyethene, 32% high density polyethene and 4% of polypropylene. Plastic waste is shredded, heated and after cooling, pulverizes manually and mechanically. Specific gravity of plastic aggregates is 0.96. Water absorption and soundness values are 4.68% and 7.68% respectively. Impact, crushing and Loss Angeles values of plastic aggregates are 0.7%, 0.5%, and 1.1% respectively. Replacement of natural aggregates by plastic aggregates in asphalt mixes is done up to 25% with 5% incremental increase. Density of asphalt mixes decreases to 2060 kg/m<sup>3</sup>. Consequently flow increases to 5.73 mm. Maximum stability is at 20% replacement i.e. 34.57 KN. Cost analysis of the study indicates that 205% increase in stability are observed with 219% increase in cost. 展开更多

Petrographic, physical, and mechanical assessment investigation of NikanaiGhar limestone aggregate exposed in the Lower Dir area of Malakand Division, Pakistan, were conducted to evaluate and investigate its potential for use as a construction material for engineering projects. Different geotechnical tests and petrographic analyses were performed to evaluate its potential for construction purposes. Geotechnical tests include unconfined compressive strength, ultimate tensile strength test, specific gravity, share strength, porosity, and water absorption. The evaluated physical attributes were compared to standard specifications to determine their suitability as a construction material. Petrographic investigation indicates mainly two types of stones. Stylolitic spar stone and Spar stone are metamorphosed equivalent limestones and are not prone to alkali-silica reactivity. Mutual relationships between physical parameters have been described by simple regression analysis. Significant direct correlation of specific gravity with ultimate tensile strength and uniaxial compressive strength was noted. However, negative trends of Porosity with ultimate tensile strength and uniaxial compressive strength were observed which is in accordance with standard. The analysis revealed that the limestones of NikanaiGhar Formation fall within the standard specification limits and can be used as aggregates for the indigenous construction industry. 展开更多

Microbes on fresh apples are closely associated with fruit disease,preservation,and quality control.Investigation into the microbial commu-nities on apples from different producing regions could reveal the microbial specificity and help disease prevention and quality control.In this paper,the apple surface microbes of 44 samples from two main Chinese apple-producing regions,Bohai Bay(BHB)and the Loess Plateau(LP),were investigated by sequencing fungal internal transcribed spacer and bacterial 16s rRNA hypervariable sequences.BHB and LP apples con-tained significantly different bacterial and fungal communities.BHB apples had a higher fungal diversity than LP apples.A total of 102 different fungal and bacterial taxonomies were obtained between apples from the two regions,in which 24 genera were predominant.BHB apples had higher phytopathogenic fungal genera,such as Tilletiopsis,Acremonium,Candida,and Phoma,indicating the higher phytopathogenic risks of apples from the humid climate of the BHB region.LP apples contained more bacterial genera identified as gut microbes,indicating the potential risks of contaminating apples with foodborne pathogens in the arid environment of the LP This study highlighted the environment-oriented mi-crobial specificity on apples from two main apple-producing regions,and provided a basis for further investigation. 展开更多

Effect of Different Levels of Phosphorus and Method of Application on the Growth and Yield of Wheat

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the productivity of wheat under different levels of phosphorus and method of application at Department of Agronomy, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam. Experiment was laid out in a RCBD (factorial) with three replications. The treatments were four phosphorus levels (P<sub>1</sub> = 0 Kg?ha<sup>–1</sup> + Recommended Nitrogen, P<sub>2</sub> = 30 Kg?ha<sup>–1</sup> + Recommended Nitrogen, P<sub>3</sub> = 60 Kg?ha<sup>–1</sup> + Recommended Nitrogen and P<sub>4</sub> = 90 Kg?ha<sup>–1</sup> + Recommended Nitrogen) and two placement methods (A1 = Drilling method and A2 = Broadcast method). The statistical analysis of phosphorus levels and placement exhibited significant differences to the maturity days, plant height, tiller production, spike length, grains per spike, seed index, harvest index and grain yield ha<sup>–1</sup>. However, the interactions of P levels and placement in all crop characters were non-significant except the grain yield/ha<sup>–1</sup>. The results revealed that application of 90 kg P ha<sup>–1</sup> prolonged 143 days for maturity, taller plants (100.16 cm), more tiller plant<sup>–1</sup> (13.50), lengthy spikes (12.83 cm), more grains spike<sup>–1</sup> (51.33), heavier seed index (48.16 g), better harvest index (50.82%) and satisfactory grain yield (4240.50 Kg?ha<sup>–1</sup>). The unit increase in grain yield was positively correlated with the increased values of observed crop parameters by extending the values of maturity r = 0.85, plant height r = 0.94, tillers plant r = 0.96, spike length r = 0.95, grains spik<sup>–1</sup> r = 0.97, seed index r = 0.95 and harvest index r = 0.97. Objective: To investigate the incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), analyze the risk factors of ROP, and put forward effective screening strategies, to reduce its incidence. Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is an eye disease that can happen in new born premature (born early) babies or have weigh less than 3 pounds at birth. ROP happens when abnormal blood vessels grow in the retina. There are multiple risk factors, which are causing the ROP. In our study we will analyses the risk factors of ROP. Methods: From February 2016 to August 2021, 190 premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) who received inpatient care and ophthalmic screening was selected as study subjects. ROP group (n = 32) and non-ROP group (n = 158) were selected, and the clinical data of the two groups were compared. Including oxygen concentration, mechanical ventilation, broncho pulmonic dysplasia, delivery mode (cesarean section, vaginal delivery), blood transfusion, anemia, gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, fetal distress, preterm birth weight, gestation age, etc. Women were divided into two groups according to whether they had gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) or not: gestational diabetic (n = 38) and non-gestational diabetics (n = 152). Age, pregnancy times, birth times, oxygen inhalation, birth weight, and gestational age were compared between the two groups. The X<sup>2</sup> test for counting data and the t-test for measuring data are then conducted according to the distribution characteristics of the data, The correlation analysis between ROP and a single risk factor was performed by chi-square test, and the analysis of the correlation between many risk factors and ROP was conducted by Logistic regression analysis. Results: 1) The incidence of ROP in the GDM group was higher than that in the non-GDM group (P P > 0.05). 3) Univariate analysis showed that oxygen use, birth weight, gestational age, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and fetal distress in the ROP 展开更多

Objective: To evaluate the re-initiation of ovarian function in cryopreserved ovarian grafts by means of vaginal smear of transplant rats. Methods: A total of 40 SPF-SD female rats (5 - 6 week-old) were randomly divided into three groups (blank control, castration control and transplant group). Ovaries were removed by surgical procedure then after cryopreservation and thawing procedures the ovarian tissues pushed inside the back muscles gap in transplant group. On the first PO day, vaginal smear collection was daily initiated. After 30 days, the PO day when the estrous cycle was re-initiated was considered for analysis as well as the estrous days and the number of estrous cycles. Results: Normal control group had a regular estrous cycle, while the transplant group had an estrous cycle disorder within first 2 weeks and later 2 weeks after the transplantation while the duration of diestrus cycle lasted longer. At the same time, the castration group had lost the normal estrous cycle, keeping continue in the stage of diestrus. Conclusion: In transplanted animals the re-initiated ovarian function can be predicted with alteration between estrous and diestrus phases with predominant estrous irregularity. Moreover, short autotransplanted graft duration needs time to perfuse by new blood vessels and hormone secretions, so could not directly affect its target organs to function properly. 展开更多
