In this study, we retrospectively assessed the standardized uptake value (SUV) of FDG-PET against decreased rates of SUV to assess the response of advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients to neoadjuvant CRT, and the correlation of this response with histopathological findings. Patients and Methods: Thirty-three patients receiving CRT followed by surgery were analyzed. Results: Using the decreased rate of maximum SUV, the sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing complete responders (CR) from non-CR patients was 63% and 44%. Using the maximum SUV before surgery, the sensitivity and specificity for distinguishing pathological CR from non-CR was 88% and 56%. Conclusions: To identify complete responders of CRT for esophageal cancer, absolute maximum SUV value is a better predictor than decreased rate of the maximum SUV.展开更多

We hypothesized that γ-PGA could reduce postprandial glucose rise and plasma glucose levels. Mice were fed a 0.1% γ-PGA—containing diet or control diet for 91 days. Maltose and starch tolerance tests were performed, and plasma lipids, glucose levels, and caecal short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were measured. Mice were co-administered γ-PGA and starch to suppress the initial rise in blood glucose levels. Blood glucose levels at 15 min were significantly lower in the PGA group than in the Con group (P 0.05). The plasma glucose level and NEFA level were also significantly lower in the PGA group (P 0.05), and caecal acetic acid/total caecal SCFAs ratio was significantly increased in the PGA group (P 0.05). Significant negative correlations existed between the caecal acetic acid/propionic acid ratio and the weight of visceral fat/BW (r =?-0.57, P = 0.0318). Our results suggest that γ-PGA may effectively prevent metabolic syndrome by lowering blood glucose levels.展开更多

Each step requires multiple factors, and frequently two or more pathways are used by a single gene, enabling strictly regulated gene expression. Importantly, eukaryotes, taking advantage of the separated structures of the nucleus and the cytoplasm, have evolved complex and organized mRNA processing mechanisms that permit sophisticated biological activity. The processes are much more complicated than those found in prokaryotes, in which transcription and translation occur linearly in time and place. Here, we review gene expression, focusing on mRNA processing in the nucleus and the gene regulatory systems found at each step. Combination of gene regulation shows the typical phenotype in each cell. Further understanding of the uncertain mechanisms will uncover the gene regulation through mRNA expression.展开更多

Then, the experiments were simulated by 3D thermal elasticplastic analysis with FEM (Finite Element Method) which was performed with using the idealized mechanical properties considering the transformation superplasticity. From the results, the effects of the phase transformation on welding distortion and residual stress generated by LBW and HYBW were elucidated. Furthermore, the generality of the idealization of the mechanical properties was verified.展开更多
