AIM:To investigate the prevalence of,and risk factors for,diabetes mellitus(DM) in Algerian patients with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection and in a control group.METHODS:A cross-sectional study was undertaken....AIM:To investigate the prevalence of,and risk factors for,diabetes mellitus(DM) in Algerian patients with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection and in a control group.METHODS:A cross-sectional study was undertaken.A total of 416 consecutive patients with viral chronic hepatitis attending the Internal Medicine Department of the University Hospital Center Touhami Benflis in Batna [290 HCV-infected and 126 hepatitis B virus(HBV)-infected patients] were prospectively recruited.RESULTS:The prevalence of DM was higher in HCV-infected patients in comparison with HBV-infected patients(39.1% vs 5%,P < 0.0001).Among patients without cirrhosis,diabetes was more prevalent in HCV-infected patients than in HBV-infected patients(33.5% vs 4.3%,P < 0.0001).Among patients with cirrhosis,diabetes was more prevalent in HCV-infected patients,but the difference was not significant(67.4% vs 20%,P = 0.058).The logistic regression analysis showed that HCV infection [odds ratio(OR) 4.73,95% CI:1.7-13.2],metabolic syndrome(OR 12.35,95% CI:6.18-24.67),family history of diabetes(OR 3.2,95% CI:1.67-6.13) and increased hepatic enzymes(OR 2.22,95% CI:1.1-4.5) were independently related to DM in these patients.CONCLUSION:The high prevalence of diabetes in HCV-infected patients,and its occurrence at early stages of hepatic disease,suggest that screening for glucose abnormalities should be indicated in these patients.展开更多

Bertol.(E. asclepium), and test the efficiency of the essential oil as an antimicrobial and antioxidant age...Objective: To evaluate the chemical composition of the essential oil isolated from Elaeoselinum asclepium(L.) Bertol.(E. asclepium), and test the efficiency of the essential oil as an antimicrobial and antioxidant agent.Methods: Essential oil was obtained from the aerial parts of E. asclepium by hydro distillation and analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. We study for the first time the chemical composition of the essential oil of E. asclepium, followed by the in vitro antimicrobial activities, which were evaluated by agar diffusion method against six Gram-positive bacteria, five Gram-negative bacteria, and two fungi. In addition, The antioxidant activities were also investigated using assays of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and ferricreducing capacity.Results: The analyzed essential oil of the aerial parts of E. asclepium was rich in apinene(43.9%), other compounds detected in appreciable amounts were sabinene(27.9%) and b-pinene(16.0%). The essential oil yields 1.2%, the IC50 values of essential oil in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl assay in the reducing power assay were 48.26 mg/m L and at 1 mg/m L, respectively. The absorbance value of essential oil at 700 nm was0.956. The antimicrobial effect was higher on Candida albicans ATCC 1024 strain with the inhibition zone 14.5 mm than bacteria and molds.Conclusions: The essential oil of E. asclepium has antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. These species may be used as an important source of natural antimicrobial and antioxidant agents.展开更多

Objective:To achieve a primary pharmacological screening contained in the aqueous extract of Berberis vulgaris(B.vulgaris) and to examine the hypoglycaemic effect and biochemical parameters of aqueous and saponins ext...Objective:To achieve a primary pharmacological screening contained in the aqueous extract of Berberis vulgaris(B.vulgaris) and to examine the hypoglycaemic effect and biochemical parameters of aqueous and saponins extract on groups of rats rendered diabetic by injection of streptozotocin.Methods:The phytochemicol tests to detect the presence of different compounds were based on the visual observation of color change or formation of precipitate after the addition of specific reagents.Diabetes was induced in rats by intraperitoneal(i.p.) injection of streptozotocin(STZ) at a dose of 65 mg/kg bw.The fasting blood glucose levels were estimated by glucose oxidase-peroxidase reactive strips(Dextrostix,Bayer Diagnostics).Blood samples were taken by cutting the tip of the tail.Serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides were estimated by enzymatic DHBS colorimetric method.Results:Administration of 62.5 and 2S.0 mg/kg of saponins and aqueous extract respectively in normal rats group shows a significant hypoglycemic activity(32.33%and 40.17%respectively) during the first week.However,diabetic group treated with saponin extract produced a maximum fall of 73.1%and 76.03%at day 1 and day 21 compared to the diabetics control.Also,blood glucose levels of the diabetic rats treated with aqueous extract showed decrease of 78.79%on the first day and the effect remains roughly constant during 3 week. Both extracts also declined significantly biochemical parameters(20.77%-49.00%).The control in the loss of body weight was observed in treated diabetic rats as compared to diabetic controls. Conclusions:These results demonstrated significant antidiabetic effects and showed that serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides levels were decreased,significantly,consequently this plant might be of value in diabetes treatment.展开更多

Patients and Methods...Introduction: Olecranon fractures represent approximately 10% of upper limb fractures, orthopedic treatment is often doomed to failure and surgical treatment consists of fixing the fracture sites. Patients and Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 130 patients, 90 men and 40 women, aged on average 48.7 ± 11.9 years (30 to 65) treated between 2018 and 2020 in the Orthopedics and trauma department at the Moulins-Yzeure hospital center, for olecranon fracture using the Medartis H-locked plate. The study aimed to evaluate the results of this surgical method, particularly with regard to postoperative complications. Results: Among the 130 patients, there were 90 men and 40 women, with an average age of 48.7 ± 11.9 years (30 to 65). 50% of all patients were aged over 51 years. The plate used was standard, the same for the 130 patients with the same operating technique. The left side was more affected at 53.8%, the dominant side was less affected at 46%;the majority of patients had been temporarily immobilized with a posterior cast splint before surgery. The average time between trauma and operation was 9 days with a minimum time of 1 day and a maximum of 30 days. At a maximum follow-up of 2 years postoperatively, all patients reported satisfactory results with a return to their previous activities within 60 days after surgery. Conclusion: Medartis H-locked plate osteosynthesis is a reliable solution for the surgical treatment of olecranon fractures.展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the essential oils(EO) composition,antimicrobial and antioxidant power of a local plant,Daucus gracilis(D.gracilis).Methods:The aerial parts of D.gracilis were subjected to hydro distillation by ...Objective:To evaluate the essential oils(EO) composition,antimicrobial and antioxidant power of a local plant,Daucus gracilis(D.gracilis).Methods:The aerial parts of D.gracilis were subjected to hydro distillation by a Clevenger apparatus type to obtain the EO which had been analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry,and screened for antimicrobial activity against five bacteria and three fungi by agar diffusion method.The mechanism of action of the EO was determined on the susceptible strains by both of time kill assay and lysis experience.The minimal inhibitory concentrations were determined by agar macrodilution and micro-dilution methods.Anti-oxidative properties of the EO were also studied by free diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and reducing power techniques.Results:The EO yielded 0.68(v/w).The chemical analysis presented two dominant constituents which were the elemicin(35.3%) and the geranyl acetate(26.8%).D.gracilis EO inhibited the growth of Bacillus cereus and Proteus mirabilis significantly with minimal inhibitory concentrations of 17.15 μg/mL by the agar dilution method and57.05 μg/mL and 114.1 μg/mL,respectively by liquid micro-dilution.A remarkable decrease in a survival rate as well as in the absorbance in 260 nm was recorded,which suggested that the cytoplasm membrane was one of the targets of the EO.The EO showed,also,important anti-oxidative effects with an IC50 of 0.002 mg/mL and a dosedependent reducing power.Conclusions:D.gracilis EO showed potent antimicrobial and anti-oxidative activities and had acted on the cytoplasm membrane.These activities could be exploited in the food industry for food preservation.展开更多

Radiation damage is among one of the aging causes. This kind of damage is an important factor of mechanical properties deterioration. The interest of this study is on the Es-Salam research reactor aluminum vessel aging due to neutron radiation. Monte Carlo(MC) simulations were performed by MCNP6 and SRIM codes to estimate the defects created by neutrons in the vessel. MC simulations by MCNP6 have been performed to determine the distribution of neutron fluence and primary knock-on atom(PKA) creation. Considering our boundary conditions of the calculations, the helium and hydrogen gas production in the model at a normalized total neutron flux of 6.62×10^(12) n/cm^2 s were determined to be 2.86 × 10~8 and 1.33 × 10~9 atoms/cm^3 s,respectively. The SRIM code was used for the simulation of defects creation(vacancies, voids) in the aluminum alloy of the Es-Salam vessel(EsAl) by helium and hydrogen with an approximate energy of 11 MeV each.The coupling between the two codes is based upon postprocessing of the particle track(PTRAC) output file generated by the MCNP6. A small program based on the Mat Lab language is performed to condition the output file MCNP6 in the format of a SRIM input file. The concentration of silicon was determined for the vessel by the calculation of the total rate of ^(27)Al(n,γ)^(28)Si reaction. The DPA(displacement per atom) was calculated in SRIM according to R.E. Stoller recommendations; the calculated value is 0.02 at a fast neutron fluence 1.89 × 10^(19) n/cm^2.RCC-MRx standard for 6061-T6 aluminum was used for the simulation of the evolution of mechanical properties for high fluence. The calculated values of nuclear parameters and DPA obtained were in agreement with the experimental results from the Oak Ridge High Flux Isotope Reactor(HFIR) reported by Farrell and coworkers.展开更多

The mechanical aspect of ICA displacement was studied in order to better understand the effect of these products on the inner wall of the artery of patients with coronary artery stenosis, undergoing repeated imaging examinations with iodinated contrast agents. ICA flow, ICA and blood flow in the artery were modelled. The fluid was regarded to be viscous, incompressible and Newtonian. Blood flow was presumed to be unidirectional, laminar and unstationary. Iodine flow velocity and retention time were calculated using the Runge-Kutta 4th order method programmed in C++ and MatLab R2013a language. The results showed that for coronary artery CT-scans, ICA retention time is 1 minute 40 seconds and for coronary arteriography it is between 2.41 and 3.61 seconds. The values calculated were compared to theoretical values and to clinical observations. The results enabled us to validate our model.展开更多

Digital maps of soil properties are now widely available.End-users now can access several digital soil mapping(DSM)products of soil properties,produced using different models,calibration/training data,and covariates a...Digital maps of soil properties are now widely available.End-users now can access several digital soil mapping(DSM)products of soil properties,produced using different models,calibration/training data,and covariates at various spatial scales from global to local.Therefore,there is an urgent need to provide easy-to-understand tools to communicate map uncertainty and help end-users assess the reliability of DSM products for use at local scales.In this study,we used a large amount of hand-feel soil texture(HFST)data to assess the performance of various published DSM products on the prediction of soil particle size distribution in Central France.We tested four DSM products for soil texture prediction developed at various scales(global,continental,national,and regional)by comparing their predictions with approximately 3200 HFST observations realized on a 1:50000 soil survey conducted after release of these DSM products.We used both visual comparisons and quantitative indicators to match the DSM predictions and HFST observations.The comparison between the low-cost HFST observations and DSM predictions clearly showed the applicability of various DSM products,with the prediction accuracy increasing from global to regional predictions.This simple evaluation can determine which products can be used at the local scale and if more accurate DSM products are required.展开更多

However, some data on the prevalence of antibodies to HCV in patients with diabetes are conflicting. These seroprevalence data should be interpreted with caution. Some potential bias may occur in those clinic-based studies that target a specif ic disease group. In this letter we explain some reasons for these conflicting studies.展开更多

文摘Objective:To achieve a primary pharmacological screening contained in the aqueous extract of Berberis vulgaris(B.vulgaris) and to examine the hypoglycaemic effect and biochemical parameters of aqueous and saponins extract on groups of rats rendered diabetic by injection of streptozotocin.Methods:The phytochemicol tests to detect the presence of different compounds were based on the visual observation of color change or formation of precipitate after the addition of specific reagents.Diabetes was induced in rats by intraperitoneal(i.p.) injection of streptozotocin(STZ) at a dose of 65 mg/kg bw.The fasting blood glucose levels were estimated by glucose oxidase-peroxidase reactive strips(Dextrostix,Bayer Diagnostics).Blood samples were taken by cutting the tip of the tail.Serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides were estimated by enzymatic DHBS colorimetric method.Results:Administration of 62.5 and 2S.0 mg/kg of saponins and aqueous extract respectively in normal rats group shows a significant hypoglycemic activity(32.33%and 40.17%respectively) during the first week.However,diabetic group treated with saponin extract produced a maximum fall of 73.1%and 76.03%at day 1 and day 21 compared to the diabetics control.Also,blood glucose levels of the diabetic rats treated with aqueous extract showed decrease of 78.79%on the first day and the effect remains roughly constant during 3 week. Both extracts also declined significantly biochemical parameters(20.77%-49.00%).The control in the loss of body weight was observed in treated diabetic rats as compared to diabetic controls. Conclusions:These results demonstrated significant antidiabetic effects and showed that serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides levels were decreased,significantly,consequently this plant might be of value in diabetes treatment.

They were characterized by BET method, XRD, 31p NMR, UV-Vis and IR techniques. The catalysts were found active in the propane oxidation and selective to propene or acrolein, in particular for samples pre-treated with the heating rate of 9 ℃/min.
文摘Introduction: Olecranon fractures represent approximately 10% of upper limb fractures, orthopedic treatment is often doomed to failure and surgical treatment consists of fixing the fracture sites. Patients and Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 130 patients, 90 men and 40 women, aged on average 48.7 ± 11.9 years (30 to 65) treated between 2018 and 2020 in the Orthopedics and trauma department at the Moulins-Yzeure hospital center, for olecranon fracture using the Medartis H-locked plate. The study aimed to evaluate the results of this surgical method, particularly with regard to postoperative complications. Results: Among the 130 patients, there were 90 men and 40 women, with an average age of 48.7 ± 11.9 years (30 to 65). 50% of all patients were aged over 51 years. The plate used was standard, the same for the 130 patients with the same operating technique. The left side was more affected at 53.8%, the dominant side was less affected at 46%;the majority of patients had been temporarily immobilized with a posterior cast splint before surgery. The average time between trauma and operation was 9 days with a minimum time of 1 day and a maximum of 30 days. At a maximum follow-up of 2 years postoperatively, all patients reported satisfactory results with a return to their previous activities within 60 days after surgery. Conclusion: Medartis H-locked plate osteosynthesis is a reliable solution for the surgical treatment of olecranon fractures.

FePMo12 was found to be a more active catalyst for propene (17.2% yield) with minimal over deep oxidation (0.3% yield in COx).

文摘Objective:To evaluate the essential oils(EO) composition,antimicrobial and antioxidant power of a local plant,Daucus gracilis(D.gracilis).Methods:The aerial parts of D.gracilis were subjected to hydro distillation by a Clevenger apparatus type to obtain the EO which had been analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry,and screened for antimicrobial activity against five bacteria and three fungi by agar diffusion method.The mechanism of action of the EO was determined on the susceptible strains by both of time kill assay and lysis experience.The minimal inhibitory concentrations were determined by agar macrodilution and micro-dilution methods.Anti-oxidative properties of the EO were also studied by free diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and reducing power techniques.Results:The EO yielded 0.68(v/w).The chemical analysis presented two dominant constituents which were the elemicin(35.3%) and the geranyl acetate(26.8%).D.gracilis EO inhibited the growth of Bacillus cereus and Proteus mirabilis significantly with minimal inhibitory concentrations of 17.15 μg/mL by the agar dilution method and57.05 μg/mL and 114.1 μg/mL,respectively by liquid micro-dilution.A remarkable decrease in a survival rate as well as in the absorbance in 260 nm was recorded,which suggested that the cytoplasm membrane was one of the targets of the EO.The EO showed,also,important anti-oxidative effects with an IC50 of 0.002 mg/mL and a dosedependent reducing power.Conclusions:D.gracilis EO showed potent antimicrobial and anti-oxidative activities and had acted on the cytoplasm membrane.These activities could be exploited in the food industry for food preservation.
文摘Nuclear facility aging is one of the biggest problems encountered in nuclear engineering. Radiation damage is among one of the aging causes. This kind of damage is an important factor of mechanical properties deterioration. The interest of this study is on the Es-Salam research reactor aluminum vessel aging due to neutron radiation. Monte Carlo(MC) simulations were performed by MCNP6 and SRIM codes to estimate the defects created by neutrons in the vessel. MC simulations by MCNP6 have been performed to determine the distribution of neutron fluence and primary knock-on atom(PKA) creation. Considering our boundary conditions of the calculations, the helium and hydrogen gas production in the model at a normalized total neutron flux of 6.62×10^(12) n/cm^2 s were determined to be 2.86 × 10~8 and 1.33 × 10~9 atoms/cm^3 s,respectively. The SRIM code was used for the simulation of defects creation(vacancies, voids) in the aluminum alloy of the Es-Salam vessel(EsAl) by helium and hydrogen with an approximate energy of 11 MeV each.The coupling between the two codes is based upon postprocessing of the particle track(PTRAC) output file generated by the MCNP6. A small program based on the Mat Lab language is performed to condition the output file MCNP6 in the format of a SRIM input file. The concentration of silicon was determined for the vessel by the calculation of the total rate of ^(27)Al(n,γ)^(28)Si reaction. The DPA(displacement per atom) was calculated in SRIM according to R.E. Stoller recommendations; the calculated value is 0.02 at a fast neutron fluence 1.89 × 10^(19) n/cm^2.RCC-MRx standard for 6061-T6 aluminum was used for the simulation of the evolution of mechanical properties for high fluence. The calculated values of nuclear parameters and DPA obtained were in agreement with the experimental results from the Oak Ridge High Flux Isotope Reactor(HFIR) reported by Farrell and coworkers.
文摘This contribution deals with the development of a three-node triangular plane finite element to analyze the transient hygroscopic behavior of 2/2 twill flax fabric-reinforced epoxy composite.Several plates of this material were fabricated using the vacuum infusion process and composite specimens were then cut and aged in tap water at room temperature until saturation.To simplify,a plane modelling of water diffusion in the aged specimens is adopted and Fick’s model is used to describe the water diffusion kinetics.To highlight the heterogeneity of the flax-epoxy samples,the twill flax fabrics waviness is modelled with a sinusoidal undulation.In particular,we show that the proposed finite element formulation allows estimating the flax fiber radial diffusion coefficient by an inverse approach.
文摘The electromagnetic properties of high temperature superconductors(HTS)are characterized with the explicit intent to improve their integration in electric power systems.A tape and a coil made of Bismuth Strontium Calcium Copper Oxide(BSCCO)are considered in the presence of electromagnetically active materials in order to mimic properly the electromagnetic environment typical of electrical machines.The characterization consists of the determining the critical current and the AC losses at different values of the frequency and the transport current.The effects induced by the proximity of the active materials are studied and some related experimental issues are analyzedc.

文摘This study aims to determine the retention time of iodinated contrast agents (ICA) in the coronary artery. The mechanical aspect of ICA displacement was studied in order to better understand the effect of these products on the inner wall of the artery of patients with coronary artery stenosis, undergoing repeated imaging examinations with iodinated contrast agents. ICA flow, ICA and blood flow in the artery were modelled. The fluid was regarded to be viscous, incompressible and Newtonian. Blood flow was presumed to be unidirectional, laminar and unstationary. Iodine flow velocity and retention time were calculated using the Runge-Kutta 4th order method programmed in C++ and MatLab R2013a language. The results showed that for coronary artery CT-scans, ICA retention time is 1 minute 40 seconds and for coronary arteriography it is between 2.41 and 3.61 seconds. The values calculated were compared to theoretical values and to clinical observations. The results enabled us to validate our model.
文摘A dynamic learning rate Gaussian mixture model(GMM)algorithm is proposed to deal with the problem of slow adaption of GMM in the case of moving object detection in the outdoor surveillance,especially in the presence of sudden illumination changes.The GMM is mostly used for detecting objects in complex scenes for intelligent monitoring systems.To solve this problem,a mixture Gaussian model has been built for each pixel in the video frame,and according to the scene change from the frame difference,the learning rate of GMM can be dynamically adjusted.The experiments show that the proposed method gives good results with an adaptive GMM learning rate when we compare it with GMM method with a fixed learning rate.The method was tested on a certain dataset,and tests in the case of sudden natural light changes show that our method has a better accuracy and lower false alarm rate.
文摘Digital maps of soil properties are now widely available.End-users now can access several digital soil mapping(DSM)products of soil properties,produced using different models,calibration/training data,and covariates at various spatial scales from global to local.Therefore,there is an urgent need to provide easy-to-understand tools to communicate map uncertainty and help end-users assess the reliability of DSM products for use at local scales.In this study,we used a large amount of hand-feel soil texture(HFST)data to assess the performance of various published DSM products on the prediction of soil particle size distribution in Central France.We tested four DSM products for soil texture prediction developed at various scales(global,continental,national,and regional)by comparing their predictions with approximately 3200 HFST observations realized on a 1:50000 soil survey conducted after release of these DSM products.We used both visual comparisons and quantitative indicators to match the DSM predictions and HFST observations.The comparison between the low-cost HFST observations and DSM predictions clearly showed the applicability of various DSM products,with the prediction accuracy increasing from global to regional predictions.This simple evaluation can determine which products can be used at the local scale and if more accurate DSM products are required.
文摘Epidemiologic studies have suggested a relation between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and diabetes mellitus. HCV infection is emerging as a metabolic disease, and diabetes mellitus as a risk factor for HCV infection. However, some data on the prevalence of antibodies to HCV in patients with diabetes are conflicting. These seroprevalence data should be interpreted with caution. Some potential bias may occur in those clinic-based studies that target a specif ic disease group. In this letter we explain some reasons for these conflicting studies.

文摘Endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)is mainly used for the evaluation and sampling of mediastinal and abdominal lymph nodes,luminal and submucosal lesions of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract,as well as in the diagnostic approach for pancreatic,biliary and liver disease.However,several non-digestive pathologies may be encountered as well,expanding the diagnostic potential of EUS.In this article,we present nine examples of extra-digestive abnormalities detected by means of EUS,including pathologies of the thyroid gland,mediastinal and abdominal vessels,lungs,kidney and the urinary bladder.The purpose of this article is to review the capabilities of EUS beyond routine evaluation of gastrointestinal organs.
