T...This research explores Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (MPCVD) for depositing diamond films on steel alloys (316L, 4140, and 1018) with a vanadium carbide interlayer to enhance adhesion and compatibility. The study reveals that a soft vanadium carbide interlayer and the FCC lattice match lead to a Ta-C film. The results of the graphite inhibition and diamond deposition varied with the steel alloy underlayer composition. In the 316L steel alloy, we successfully formed a thick, compressive strain-induced, sp3-bonded tetrahedral amorphous carbon layer without graphite. The findings have wide-ranging applications in environments demanding high durability and thermal conductivity.展开更多
AIM:To explore the usage of choroidal thickness measured by swept-source optical coherence tomography(SS-OCT)to detect myopic macular degeneration(MMD)in high myopic participants.METHODS:Participants with bilateral hi...AIM:To explore the usage of choroidal thickness measured by swept-source optical coherence tomography(SS-OCT)to detect myopic macular degeneration(MMD)in high myopic participants.METHODS:Participants with bilateral high myopia(≤−6 diopters)were recruited from a subset of the Guangzhou Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center-Brien Holden Vision Institute High Myopia Cohort Study.SS-OCT was performed to determine the choroidal thickness,and myopic maculopathy was graded by the International Meta-Analysis for Pathologic Myopia(META-PM)Classification.Presence of MMD was defined as META-PM category 2 or above.RESULTS:A total of 568 right eyes were included for analysis.Eyes with MMD(n=106,18.7%)were found to have older age,longer axial lengths(AL),higher myopic spherical equivalents(SE),and reduced choroidal thickness in each Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study(ETDRS)grid sector(P<0.001).The area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves(AUC)for subfoveal choroidal thickness(0.907)was greater than that of the model,including age,AL,and SE at 0.6249,0.8208,and 0.8205,respectively.The choroidal thickness of the inner and outer nasal sectors was the most accurate indicator of MMD(AUC of 0.928 and 0.923,respectively).An outer nasal sector choroidal thickness of less than 74μm demonstrated the highest odds of predicting MMD(OR=33.8).CONCLUSION:Choroidal thickness detects the presence of MMD with high agreement,particularly of the inner and outer nasal sectors of the posterior pole,which appears to be a biometric parameter more precise than age,AL,or SE.展开更多

In traditional social sciences, such information was gathered by conducting surveys. However in digital era, smart phones are regarded as a popular tool which automatically senses much human information to quantify our lives. Reality mining gives a clear picture of a human being and its social relations. Social Network Analysis (SNA) is a powerful research tool which provides a comprehensive analysis on ego-alters communications with their individual productivity within a community. In this paper, various popular measures of social network analysis have used to study a closed community through their mobile call logs for a period of time. We experimented various social network measures both on daily basis and also over a period of time. The pattern shows that the relationships and interaction between ego-alter ties have more productive benefits. Using Pearsoncorrelation analysis, we observed that significant (positive) correlation exists between various network properties and their productivity. Results showed that degree (size) has the strongest positive correlation with average productivity, followed by effective size, efficiency, constraint, hierarchy, and k-core of an individual. Density and betweenness centrality have a weak, negative correlation with productivity. Hence social capital has a significant influence on human productivity.展开更多

Arrhythmia is ubiquitous worldwide and cardiologists tend to provide solutions from the recent advancements in medicine.Detecting arrhythmia from ECG signals is considered a standard approach and hence,automating this...Arrhythmia is ubiquitous worldwide and cardiologists tend to provide solutions from the recent advancements in medicine.Detecting arrhythmia from ECG signals is considered a standard approach and hence,automating this process would aid the diagnosis by providing fast,costefficient,and accurate solutions at scale.This is executed by extracting the definite properties from the individual patterns collected from Electrocardiography(ECG)signals causing arrhythmia.In this era of applied intelligence,automated detection and diagnostic solutions are widely used for their spontaneous and robust solutions.In this research,our contributions are two-fold.Firstly,the Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform(DT-CWT)method is implied to overhaul shift-invariance and aids signal reconstruction to extract significant features.Next,A neural attention mechanism is implied to capture temporal patterns from the extracted features of the ECG signal to discriminate distinct classes of arrhythmia and is trained end-to-end with the finest parameters.To ensure that the model’s generalizability,a set of five traintest variants are implied.The proposed model attains the highest accuracy of 98.5%for classifying 8 variants of arrhythmia on the MIT-BIH dataset.To test the resilience of the model,the unseen(test)samples are increased by 5x and the deviation in accuracy score and MSE was 0.12%and 0.1%respectively.Further,to assess the diagnostic model performance,AUC-ROC curves are plotted.At every test level,the proposed model is capable of generalizing new samples and leverages the advantage to develop a real-world application.As a note,this research is the first attempt to provide neural attention in arrhythmia classification using MIT-BIH ECG signals data with state-of-the-art performance.展开更多
Objective: To report cases of neurocysticercosis(NCC) from three neighboring districts of Andhra Pradesh state in India where NCC burden was never explored before.Methods: A total of 160 patients presenting with recen...Objective: To report cases of neurocysticercosis(NCC) from three neighboring districts of Andhra Pradesh state in India where NCC burden was never explored before.Methods: A total of 160 patients presenting with recent onset seizures were recruited from neurology, general medicine, and pediatric outpatient clinics of a local major tertiary care teaching hospital serving above districts during the period 2011–2014. Brain imaging was performed in all the above cases. A commercial immunoglobulin G-ELISA kit(sensitivity = 85%; specificity = 94%) was employed for the serological diagnosis of NCC.Results: The recruited patients presented with generalized, simple partial, and complex partial seizures(55%, 31.25% and 13.75% respectively). NCC was diagnosed in 44 of160(27.5%) seizure cases based on imaging characteristics, and a positive serum antibody ELISA. No association was detected between seropositivity with the number and location of the lesion(s) in the brain.Conclusions: The possible potentiality of NCC could be identified as an underlying cause of the recent onset of seizures in this region as explored in the present study. It is recommended that NCC should be suspected as one of the major differential in every recent onset seizure with or without a radio imaging supportive diagnosis, especially in areas endemic for taeniasis/cysticercosis.展开更多

Ketoconazole was oxidized with periodate, resulting in formation of KC2t and iodate ions. After masking the excess periodate with molybdate, the iodate was treated with iodide to release iodine. The liberated iodine was transformed to ICl2 species and extracted as ion-pair with rhodamine 6G into toluene for spectrophotometric measurement at 535 nm. A linear calibration graph was obtained between 0.2136 mg/mL and 1.7088 mg/mL of Ketoconazole with a molar absorptivity of 5 105 mol L 1 cm 1. The procedure was successfully applied for the determination of ketoconazole in tablet formulation.展开更多

Research carried out to assess the impact of open-pollinated Tomato leaf curl virus(ToLCV)-resistant tomatoes and hybrids on the livelihoods of resource-poor farmers in Southern India is described and discussed.Thre...Research carried out to assess the impact of open-pollinated Tomato leaf curl virus(ToLCV)-resistant tomatoes and hybrids on the livelihoods of resource-poor farmers in Southern India is described and discussed.Three high-yielding ToLCV-resistant tomato varieties were developed initially using conventional breeding and screening techniques involving inoculation by ToLCV-viruliferous whitefly,Bemisia tabaci.In 2003 and 2004,respectively,these varieties were released officially by the Karnataka State Seed Committee and the Indian Ministry of Agriculture through notification in the Gazette of India.From 2003 to 2005,eleven seed companies bought breeder seed of the ToLCV-resistant varieties and used them to begin breeding F1 hybrids from them.Socio-economic studies carried out to assess the benefits obtained from growing the ToLCV-resistant varieties found that farmers could gain up to 10 times the profit by growing the ToLCV-resistant varieties compared to the pre-existing ToLCV-susceptible varieties.Adoption of ToLCV-resistant tomatoes was also associated with reduced pesticide use.Extra income from tomato sales was prioritised by farmers to pay for children's education,better nutrition and medicines.In a joint effort with the commercial seed sector in India,a promotional field day was organised in 2007.As well as the three ToLCV-resistant varieties,62 ToLCV-resistant hybrid tomatoes were exhibited during a farmer-field day by 17 commercial seed companies and several public institutes.Tomatoes with ToLCV-resistance are now grown widely in South India and seeds of the three open-pollinated varieties have been distributed to more than 12 countries.In 2007,a conservative estimate of the financial-benefit to cost of the research ratio was already more than 837:1.展开更多

Bauhinia purpurea finds its place in traditional medicine as an effective anti-ulcer, antiplatelet, wound healing and hypolipidemic agent. The present study investigated the effects of ethanolic extract of Bauhinia purpurea (EEB) on the changes in body weight, lean mass, fat free mass, fat percent, tissue and plasma lipid profiles, plasma glucose, insulin and insulin resistance as well as on the activity of amylase, lipase, leptin and adiponectin levels in high caloric diet (HCD) induced obese rats. After induction of obesity with HCD, rats were administered orally with EEB (100, 200 and 300 mg·kg-1 BW) or orlistat (5 mg·kg-1 BW) once daily for 42 days. HCD substantially increased the body weight, fat free mass, fat percent, glucose, insulin resistance, tissue and plasma lipid profiles (Except HDL), leptin and the activities of amylase and lipase. EEB at a dose of 300 mg·kg-1 BW exerted its therapeutic effects similar to orlistat in decreasing body weight, insulin resistance, levels of glucose, leptin, plasma and tissue lipids, lipase and amylase but increasing HDL and adiponectin in HCD fed obese rats, which could be due to bioactive factors present in EEB, as revealed by LC-MS analysis. These findings suggest that EEB administration suppresses high-caloric-diet-induced obesity and it can be developed as a potential candidate for the treatment of obesity and associated complications.展开更多
Proteome analysis of embryo and endosperm of Givotia moluccana,a promising angiosperm tree species was carried out using two-dimensional electrophoresis combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time o...Proteome analysis of embryo and endosperm of Givotia moluccana,a promising angiosperm tree species was carried out using two-dimensional electrophoresis combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight to identify differentially abundant proteins and their possible functions.The study revealed the presence of 492 protein spots in the embryo and 432 in the endosperm,and the relative abundance of 44 spots varied significantly between the two.Of the 21 functionally characterized protein spots,14.3%were involved in metabolism and energy,28.6%in protein destination and storage,14.3%in defense and stress and 19%in cell growth and division.The embryo-specific protein ATPdependent zinc metalloprotease FtsH is predicted to be involved in chloroplast biogenesis and the endospermspecific protein hydroxyacyl-ACP dehydratase in fatty acid synthesis.These results suggested that the seeds have proteins required for germination and for stress responses.展开更多

To explain these measurements, the theory ...The currently well-developed models for equations of state (EoSs) have been severely impacted by recent measurements of neutron stars with a small radius and/or large mass. To explain these measurements, the theory of gravitational field shielding by a scalar field is applied. This theory was recently developed in accor- dance with the five-dimensional (5D) fully covariant Kaluza-Klein (KK) theory that has successfully unified Einstein's general relativity and Maxwell's electromagnetic theory. It is shown that a massive, compact neutron star can generate a strong scalar field, which can significantly shield or reduce its gravitational field, thus making it more massive and more compact. The mass-radius relation developed under this type of modified gravity can be consistent with these recent measurements of neutron stars. In addition, the effect of gravitational field shielding helps explain why the supernova explosions of some very massive stars (e.g.9 40 MQ as measured recently) actually formed neutron stars rather than black holes as expected. The EoS models, ruled out by measurements of small radius and/or large mass neutron stars according to the the- ory of general relativity, can still work well in terms of the 5D fully covariant KK theory with a scalar field.展开更多

文摘Arrhythmia is ubiquitous worldwide and cardiologists tend to provide solutions from the recent advancements in medicine.Detecting arrhythmia from ECG signals is considered a standard approach and hence,automating this process would aid the diagnosis by providing fast,costefficient,and accurate solutions at scale.This is executed by extracting the definite properties from the individual patterns collected from Electrocardiography(ECG)signals causing arrhythmia.In this era of applied intelligence,automated detection and diagnostic solutions are widely used for their spontaneous and robust solutions.In this research,our contributions are two-fold.Firstly,the Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform(DT-CWT)method is implied to overhaul shift-invariance and aids signal reconstruction to extract significant features.Next,A neural attention mechanism is implied to capture temporal patterns from the extracted features of the ECG signal to discriminate distinct classes of arrhythmia and is trained end-to-end with the finest parameters.To ensure that the model’s generalizability,a set of five traintest variants are implied.The proposed model attains the highest accuracy of 98.5%for classifying 8 variants of arrhythmia on the MIT-BIH dataset.To test the resilience of the model,the unseen(test)samples are increased by 5x and the deviation in accuracy score and MSE was 0.12%and 0.1%respectively.Further,to assess the diagnostic model performance,AUC-ROC curves are plotted.At every test level,the proposed model is capable of generalizing new samples and leverages the advantage to develop a real-world application.As a note,this research is the first attempt to provide neural attention in arrhythmia classification using MIT-BIH ECG signals data with state-of-the-art performance.

文摘Objective: To report cases of neurocysticercosis(NCC) from three neighboring districts of Andhra Pradesh state in India where NCC burden was never explored before.Methods: A total of 160 patients presenting with recent onset seizures were recruited from neurology, general medicine, and pediatric outpatient clinics of a local major tertiary care teaching hospital serving above districts during the period 2011–2014. Brain imaging was performed in all the above cases. A commercial immunoglobulin G-ELISA kit(sensitivity = 85%; specificity = 94%) was employed for the serological diagnosis of NCC.Results: The recruited patients presented with generalized, simple partial, and complex partial seizures(55%, 31.25% and 13.75% respectively). NCC was diagnosed in 44 of160(27.5%) seizure cases based on imaging characteristics, and a positive serum antibody ELISA. No association was detected between seropositivity with the number and location of the lesion(s) in the brain.Conclusions: The possible potentiality of NCC could be identified as an underlying cause of the recent onset of seizures in this region as explored in the present study. It is recommended that NCC should be suspected as one of the major differential in every recent onset seizure with or without a radio imaging supportive diagnosis, especially in areas endemic for taeniasis/cysticercosis.
文摘This paper describes a sensitive spectrophotometric method developed for determination of Ketoconazole (KC) in tablets based on amplification reactions. Ketoconazole was oxidized with periodate, resulting in formation of KC2t and iodate ions. After masking the excess periodate with molybdate, the iodate was treated with iodide to release iodine. The liberated iodine was transformed to ICl2 species and extracted as ion-pair with rhodamine 6G into toluene for spectrophotometric measurement at 535 nm. A linear calibration graph was obtained between 0.2136 mg/mL and 1.7088 mg/mL of Ketoconazole with a molar absorptivity of 5 105 mol L 1 cm 1. The procedure was successfully applied for the determination of ketoconazole in tablet formulation.
文摘Objective:To study the derivatives of 1,2,4-triazino[5,6-b]indole-3-thione for antidepressant activity in olfactory bulbectomized(OBX)rats.Out of various derivatives tested for acute tail suspension test,the two derivatives showiug prominent action were.selected for bilateral olfactory bulbeetomy rsodel of ehronic depression in rats.Methods:The sub aeute effects of 14-day oral pretreatment of two derivatives labeled as 3a(70 mg/kg)and 3r(70 mg/kg),imipramine(20 mg/kg),fluoxetiue(30 mg/kg)and moclobemide(15 mg/kg)were evaluated on bilateral bulbectomy induced rise in body weight,hyperphagia,hyperactivity,and on sexual dysfunction.The serum sodium concentration,body temperature,and heart rate were also recorded.Results:The derivatives3a and 3r showed reversal of drop in body weight,reversed OBX indueed hyperactivity,normalized body temperature,heart rate,and serum sodium concentration.In elevated maze test,moclobemide,3a,3r treatment significantly redueed time spent in open arm as compared to OBX rats.3a and 3r also irsproved sexual behavior parameters.Conclusions:The present study shows promising antidepressant action and provides a proof of concept for the chronic treatrsent of 3a,3r to treat depression.
文摘This paper presents a modeling and simulation of micro-milling process with finite element modeling(FEM)analysis to predict cutting forces.The micro-milling of Inconel 718 is conducted using high-speed steel(HSS)micro-end mill cutter of 1mm diameter.The machining parameters considered for simulation are feed rate,cutting speed and depth of cut which are varied at three levels.The FEM analysis of machining process is divided into three parts,i.e.,pre-processer,simulation and post-processor.In preprocessor,the input data are provided for simulation.The machining process is further simulated with the pre-processor data.For data extraction and viewing the simulated results,post-processor is used.A set of experiments are conducted for validation of simulated process.The simulated and experimental results are compared and the results are found to be having a good agreement.

文摘Research carried out to assess the impact of open-pollinated Tomato leaf curl virus(ToLCV)-resistant tomatoes and hybrids on the livelihoods of resource-poor farmers in Southern India is described and discussed.Three high-yielding ToLCV-resistant tomato varieties were developed initially using conventional breeding and screening techniques involving inoculation by ToLCV-viruliferous whitefly,Bemisia tabaci.In 2003 and 2004,respectively,these varieties were released officially by the Karnataka State Seed Committee and the Indian Ministry of Agriculture through notification in the Gazette of India.From 2003 to 2005,eleven seed companies bought breeder seed of the ToLCV-resistant varieties and used them to begin breeding F1 hybrids from them.Socio-economic studies carried out to assess the benefits obtained from growing the ToLCV-resistant varieties found that farmers could gain up to 10 times the profit by growing the ToLCV-resistant varieties compared to the pre-existing ToLCV-susceptible varieties.Adoption of ToLCV-resistant tomatoes was also associated with reduced pesticide use.Extra income from tomato sales was prioritised by farmers to pay for children's education,better nutrition and medicines.In a joint effort with the commercial seed sector in India,a promotional field day was organised in 2007.As well as the three ToLCV-resistant varieties,62 ToLCV-resistant hybrid tomatoes were exhibited during a farmer-field day by 17 commercial seed companies and several public institutes.Tomatoes with ToLCV-resistance are now grown widely in South India and seeds of the three open-pollinated varieties have been distributed to more than 12 countries.In 2007,a conservative estimate of the financial-benefit to cost of the research ratio was already more than 837:1.
文摘Obesity is well recognized as a global public health concern and the quest continues to explore natural product-based novel therapeutics. Bauhinia purpurea finds its place in traditional medicine as an effective anti-ulcer, antiplatelet, wound healing and hypolipidemic agent. The present study investigated the effects of ethanolic extract of Bauhinia purpurea (EEB) on the changes in body weight, lean mass, fat free mass, fat percent, tissue and plasma lipid profiles, plasma glucose, insulin and insulin resistance as well as on the activity of amylase, lipase, leptin and adiponectin levels in high caloric diet (HCD) induced obese rats. After induction of obesity with HCD, rats were administered orally with EEB (100, 200 and 300 mg·kg-1 BW) or orlistat (5 mg·kg-1 BW) once daily for 42 days. HCD substantially increased the body weight, fat free mass, fat percent, glucose, insulin resistance, tissue and plasma lipid profiles (Except HDL), leptin and the activities of amylase and lipase. EEB at a dose of 300 mg·kg-1 BW exerted its therapeutic effects similar to orlistat in decreasing body weight, insulin resistance, levels of glucose, leptin, plasma and tissue lipids, lipase and amylase but increasing HDL and adiponectin in HCD fed obese rats, which could be due to bioactive factors present in EEB, as revealed by LC-MS analysis. These findings suggest that EEB administration suppresses high-caloric-diet-induced obesity and it can be developed as a potential candidate for the treatment of obesity and associated complications.

文摘Proteome analysis of embryo and endosperm of Givotia moluccana,a promising angiosperm tree species was carried out using two-dimensional electrophoresis combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight to identify differentially abundant proteins and their possible functions.The study revealed the presence of 492 protein spots in the embryo and 432 in the endosperm,and the relative abundance of 44 spots varied significantly between the two.Of the 21 functionally characterized protein spots,14.3%were involved in metabolism and energy,28.6%in protein destination and storage,14.3%in defense and stress and 19%in cell growth and division.The embryo-specific protein ATPdependent zinc metalloprotease FtsH is predicted to be involved in chloroplast biogenesis and the endospermspecific protein hydroxyacyl-ACP dehydratase in fatty acid synthesis.These results suggested that the seeds have proteins required for germination and for stress responses.

文摘The currently well-developed models for equations of state (EoSs) have been severely impacted by recent measurements of neutron stars with a small radius and/or large mass. To explain these measurements, the theory of gravitational field shielding by a scalar field is applied. This theory was recently developed in accor- dance with the five-dimensional (5D) fully covariant Kaluza-Klein (KK) theory that has successfully unified Einstein's general relativity and Maxwell's electromagnetic theory. It is shown that a massive, compact neutron star can generate a strong scalar field, which can significantly shield or reduce its gravitational field, thus making it more massive and more compact. The mass-radius relation developed under this type of modified gravity can be consistent with these recent measurements of neutron stars. In addition, the effect of gravitational field shielding helps explain why the supernova explosions of some very massive stars (e.g.9 40 MQ as measured recently) actually formed neutron stars rather than black holes as expected. The EoS models, ruled out by measurements of small radius and/or large mass neutron stars according to the the- ory of general relativity, can still work well in terms of the 5D fully covariant KK theory with a scalar field.
