Introduction: The complications of cervicofacial cellulitis are one of the most serious emergencies Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (ORL). These complications are still observed in our context despite the advent of antibiotics. The aim of our study was to describe the clinical presentation and management of patients admitted to our institution for complications of cervicofacial cellulitis. Patients and Methods: It came from a retrospective study in the ORL service, a department of Yalgado Ouédraogo Hospital of Ouagadougou, between January 2005 and December 2014, during which all patients with cervicofacial cellulitis complications were identified. Results: We collected over 10 years, 69 cases of complicated cellulitis, a frequency of 54.3% of cervicofacial cellulitis and 2.3% of all hospitalizations. The group included 33% women and 67% men to 29 years of average age. The non-steroidal anti-inflammatory isolated was the main factor contributing 59.4%. The front door was mainly dental 43.5% and pharyngeal 36.2%. The most frequent complications were mediastinitis thoracic dissemination 24.6%, sepsis 21.7% and spontaneous fistula 20.3% with orostome or pharyngostome. Medico-surgical treatment was associated with a reanimation in most cases. The outcome was favorable in 79.7% of cases. Mortality was 17.4%. Conclusion: The complications of cervicofacial cellulitis are frequent and often life-threatening. Their management is done in a multidisciplinary framework. The prevention and early treatment remain the pledge of their control. 展开更多

Objective: Our study aimed at analyzing the morphometry of the lumbar spine at the CT scan and to specify its interest in spinal surgery. Methodology: This was a prospective study conducted from May 1, 2011 to July 31, 2011 in Ouagadougou. During this study, 170 patients aged 45.3 ± 12.5 years old with a sex ratio of 1.15 received a CT scan. The symptomatology was dominated by low back pain (60.6%) and lumbar osteoarthritis was the most common etiology (51.8%). The measurements were performed directly on axial and sagittal sections of the lumbar spine with measurement of the vertebral body, and pedicles. Results: The vertebral body increased forward from 24.9 mm in L1 to 26.7 mm in L5 and decreasing backwards from 26.6 mm in L1 to 23.4 mm in L5. The transverse diameter of the vertebral body ranged from 37 mm in L1 to 47.4 mm in L5 and the anteroposterior diameter of 27.6 mm in L1 to 33.5 mm in L5. The lumbar canal had an anteroposterior diameter that ranged from 15.9 mm in L1 to 15.5 mm in L5 and an interpedicular distance increasing from 21.54 mm in L1 to 28.42 mm in L5. The pedicle decreased in length from L1 (9.5 mm) to L5 (6.5 mm) while its width increased from 6.9 mm in L1 to 15.1 mm in L5. Its axis formed, with respect to the sagittal plane, an increasingly obtuse angle varying from 16.3 degrees in L1 to 29.1 degrees in L5 and with respect to the upper plate of the vertebral body, an increasingly acute angle (14, 2 degrees in L1 at 8.8 degrees in L5). Conclusion: The dimensions of the lumbar vertebrae in our series differ from those noted in Western populations in that they have a smaller vertebral body, a shorter, wider pedicle with an angle of inclination of the pedicle compared to the sagittal and horizontal planes more obtuse. 展开更多

Introduction: Nutrition, particularly when too sweet or too fatty, is a major determinant of chronic diseases. This study aims to determine the frequency and associate factors of the excessive consumption of sweet drinks and fried food among secondary school pupils. Methods: It is cross-sectional study which was conducted from March to April 2016 among 1st, 4th and 7th form pupils of public and private schools in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. Nutritional investigation methods consisted in a reminder of the last 24 hours associated with a questionnaire on food consumption frequency. Excessive consumption of sweet drinks was defined as a consumption of more than 3 sweet drinks (soda) or sugary juice per day (~33 cl × 3);and excessive consumption of fried food as a consumption of more than 1 intake of fried food per day. Results: In total, 1993 pupils were interviewed. The mean age was 17.5 ± 3.6 years and sex-ratio 0.7. Excessive consumption of sweet drinks and fried food was recorded in 12.7% (n = 253) and 28.2% (n = 561) of pupils, respectively. The factors associated with excessive consumption of sweet drinks were: sex/female, sedentarily, desire to gain weight, lean or normal corpulence of the mother and breakfast intake;those associated with excessive consumption of fried food were: sex/female, being in 1st or 4th form, physical exercise practice and breakfast intake. But the fact to attend a private secondary school, to have a mother of normal corpulence and a concordance between self-image and actual weight status, were protective against excessive consumption of fried foods. Conclusion: This study has displayed prominently the fact that eating too sweet and too fatty concerned respectively 1/10 and 3/10 of pupils in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. The main modifiable factors of these eating habits included the level of education, the composition of breakfast and the influence of mothers. An intervention program in the form of a Communication for Continuous Behavioral Change intended for pupils and their mothers 展开更多

The aim of this study was to describe pupils’ diet in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso). Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study that took place from March to April 2016, among 1st, 4th and 7th form pupils of public and private schools in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. Diet survey methods were a reminder of the last 24 hours and the questionnaire of consumption frequency. Results: A total of 1993 pupils were surveyed. The mean age was 17.5 ± 3.6 years and the sex ratio 0.7. The majority of pupils (90.5%) reported eating at least 3 meals a day. Dietary recommendations were different according to food groups. For example, vegetables (90.0%), fruits (75.4%) and dairy products (79.3%) were the least well consumed foods compared to recommendations. Protein and starch intake were inadequate among these pupils with 39.7% and 58.2% respectively. Almost 1/4 had a regular weekly alcohol consumption (23.4%) while an excessive consumption of sweet drinks and fried foods was noted in 12.7% and 28.2% of them, respectively. Conclusion: This study has revealed a general insufficiency in the recommended dietary intakes of fruit, vegetables, proteins, starchy foods and dairy products among pupils, and on the other hand, a regular consumption of fatty, sugary and alcoholic foods for about a fifth of them. An intervention program such as “Communication for Continuous Behavior Change” would help improve these habits. 展开更多
