An incompressible couple stress fluid occupies the porous medium. Mathematical anal- ysis is presented through large wavelength and low Reynolds number. Exact analytical expressions of axial velocity, volume flow rate, pressure gradient, and stream function are calculated as a function of couple stress parameter. Analysis is carried out u... The present investigation studies the peristaltic flow of the Jeffrey fluid through a tube of finite length. The fluid is electrically conducting in the presence of an applied magnetic field. Analysis is carried out under the assumption of long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximations. Expressions of the pressure gradient, volume flow rate, average volume flow rate, and local wall shear stress are obtained. The effects of relaxation time, retardation time, Hartman number on pressure, local wall shear stress, and mechanical efficiency of peristaltic pump are studied. The reflux phenomenon is also investigated. The case of propagation of a non-integral number of waves along the tube walls, which are inherent characteristics of finite length vessels, is also examined. 展开更多

We discuss the effects of the surface slip on streamline patterns and their bifurcations for the peristaltic transport of a Newtonian fluid. The flow is in a two-dimensional symmetric channel or an axisymmetric tube. An exact expression for the stream function is obtained in the wave frame under the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number for both cases. For the discussion of the particle path in the wave frame, a system of nonlinear autonomous differential equations is established and the methods of dynamical systems are used to discuss the local bifurcations and their topological changes. Moreover, all types of bifurcations and their topological changes are discussed graphically. Finally, the global bifurcation diagram is used to summarize the bifurcations. 展开更多

The catalytic effect of K2SiF6 on MgH2 was first timely studied.The MgH2+5 wt.%K2SiF6 was prepared via the ball milling technique.The catalyst had lessened the initial decomposition temperature by 134℃ and 48℃ as compared to both pristine and milled MgH2 samples,respectively.In 2 minutes,4.5 wt.%of hydrogen was absorbed(250℃)by the doped composite,which was 0.8 wt.%higher than the milled MgH2.Meanwhile,for the desorption kinetics(320℃,1 atm),the amount of desorbed hydrogen was increased by 2.4 wt.%and 2.3 wt.%for the first 10 and 20 minutes.Besides,contracting volume and Johnson-Mehl-Avrami models were used to analyse the kinetics sorptions.The decomposition activation energy calculated based on Kissinger equation was 114 kJ/mol.As for the active species,Mg2Si,MgF2 and KH were formed during the heating process.These active species are speculated to be responsible for the improvement of the hydrogenation properties of the composite. 展开更多

A solid-state storage system is the most practical option for hydrogen because it is more convenient and safer.Metal hydrides,especially MgH_(2),are the most promising materials that offer high gravimetric capacity and good reversibility.However,the practical application of MgH_(2) is restricted by slow sorption kinetics and high stability of thermodynamic properties.Hydrogen storage performance of MgH_(2) was enhanced by introducing the Mg–Na–Al system that destabilises MgH_(2) with NaAlH_(4).The Mg–Na–Al system has superior performance compared to that of unary MgH_(2) and NaAlH_(4).To boost the performance of the Mg–Na–Al system,the ball milling method and the addition of a catalyst were introduced.The Mg–Na–Al system resulted in a low onset decomposition temperature,superior cyclability and enhanced kinetics performances.The Al_(12)Mg_(17) and NaMgH_(3) that formed in situ during the dehydrogenation process modify the reaction pathway of the Mg–Na–Al system and alter the thermodynamic properties.In this paper,the overview of the recent progress in hydrogen storage of the Mg–Na–Al system is detailed.The remaining challenges and future development of Mg–Na–Al system are also discussed.This paper is the first review report on hydrogen storage properties of the Mg–Na–Al system. 展开更多

Magnesium hydride(MgH_(2))is the most feasible and effective solid-state hydrogen storage material,which has excellent reversibility but initiates decomposing at high temperatures and has slow kinetics performance.Here,zinc titanate(Zn_(2)TiO_(4))synthesised by the solid-state method was used as an additive to lower the initial temperature for dehydrogenation and enhance the re/dehydrogenation behaviour of MgH_(2).With the presence of Zn_(2)TiO_(4),the starting temperature for the dehydrogenation of MgH_(2)was remarkably lowered to around 290℃–305℃.In addition,within 300 s,the MgH_(2)–Zn_(2)TiO_(4)sample absorbed 5.0 wt.%of H_(2)and 2.2–3.6 wt.%H_(2)was liberated from the composite sample in 30 min,which is faster by 22–36 times than as-milled MgH_(2).The activation energy of the MgH_(2)for the dehydrogenation process was also downshifted to 105.5 k J/mol with the addition of Zn_(2)TiO_(4)indicating a decrease of 22%than as-milled MgH_(2).The superior behaviour of MgH_(2)was due to the formation of Mg Zn_(2),MgO and MgTiO_(3),which are responsible for ameliorating the re/dehydrogenation behaviour of MgH_(2).These findings provide a new understanding of the hydrogen storage behaviour of the catalysed-MgH_(2)system. 展开更多

For the first time,the MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4)(ratio 4:1)destabilized system with CoTiO_(3) addition has been explored.The CoTiO_(3)-doped MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4) sample begins to dehydrogenate at 130℃,which is declined by 40℃ compared to the undoped MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4).Moreover,the de/rehydrogenation kinetics characteristics of the CoTiO_(3)-doped MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4) were greatly ameliorated.With the inclusion of CoTiO_(3),the MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4) composite absorbed 5.2 wt.%H_(2),higher than undoped MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4).In the context of dehydrogenation,the CoTiO_(3)-doped MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4) sample desorbed 2.6 wt.%H_(2),almost doubled compared to the amount of hydrogen desorbed from the undoped MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4) sample.The activation energy obtained by the Kissinger analysis for MgH_(2) decomposition was significantly lower by 35.9 kJ/mol than the undoped MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4) sample.The reaction mechanism demonstrated that new phases of MgCo and AlTi_(3) were generated in situ during the heating process and are likely to play a substantial catalytic function and be useful in ameliorating the de/rehydrogenation properties of the destabilized MgH_(2)–NaAlH_(4) system with the inclusion of CoTiO_(3). 展开更多

We propose a Q-switched Er-doped fiber laser (EDFL) with a threshold pumping power as low as 7.4 mW, and demonstrate using graphene polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) thin film as a passive saturable absorber (SA). The SA is fabricated from graphene flakes, which is synthesized by electrochemical exfoliation of graphite at room temperature in 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate aqueous solution. The flakes are mixed with PVA solution to produce a thin film, which is then sandwiched between two ferrules to form a SA and integrated in the EDFL ring cavity to generate a stable Q-switched pulse train. The pulse train operates at 1560 nm with a threshold pump power of 7.4 roW. At maximum 1480 nm pump power of 33.0 roW, the EDFL generates an optical pulse train with a repetition rate of 27.0 kHz and pulse width of 3.56/as. The maximum pulse energy of 39.4 nJ is obtained at a pump power of 14.9 roW. This laser can be used as a simple and low-cost light source for metrology, environmental sensing, and biomedical diagnostics. 展开更多

A simple technique for achieving a stable, room temperature and multi-wavelength lasing with narrow linewidth is demonstrated using Brillouin ber laser (BFL) with a 100-m-long photonic crystal ber (PCF) in conjunction with a dual-pass configuration. A broadband ber Bragg grating (FBG) operating in the C-band region is incorporated at the end side of the setup to allow a dual-pass operation. The proposed BFL can operate at any wavelength depending on the Brillouin pump wavelength and the FBG's reflection region used. With a Brillouin pump (BP) of 15.7 dBm, approximately 7 Stokes and 4 anti-Stokes lines are obtained with a line spacing of 0.08 nm. 展开更多

A nanosecond pulsed laser is demonstrated using the stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS)effect in a nonlinear photonic crystal fiber(PCF).The Brillouin fiber laser(BFL)uses a 50-m-long PCF in a simple ring cavity to generate a self-starting pulse as the Brillouin power reaches 16.5 dBm based on the relaxation oscillation technique.The BFL generates a pulse train with repetition rates of 2.7 MHz and 5.4 MHz depending on the BP power.The pulse width of the laser is obtained to be 190 ns at the BP power of 16.5 dBm and is maintained at around 72 ns as the pump power is set within 17.7 dBm and 18.5 dBm.The maximum pulse energy of 20 nJ is obtained at BP power of 17.4 dBm.This SBS based pulse laser is fairly stable at room temperature. 展开更多

We report a ring cavity passively harmonic mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser(TDFL)using a newly devel-oped single-wall carbon nanotube-based saturable absorber.The TDFL generates the 25 th harmonic mode-locked stretched pulse train with a high repetition rate of 213MHz and a pulse duration of 710fs.The laser operates at 1901.6nm with an average power of 1.89mW,which corresponds to the pulse energy of 0.008nJ,at 1552nm pump power of 719mW.The peak-to-background ratio is measured to be 60dB,which indicates the stability of the laser. 展开更多
