Previous studies have shown that bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP2) and BMP2 mRNA are expressed in ossifying matrix and chondrocytes adjacent to cartilaginous areas of OPLL tissues and mesenchymal cells with fibroblastic features in the immediate vicinity of the cartilaginous areas. It is suggested that BMP2 plays different roles in the different stages of development of OPLL. However, it remains unknown which factors induce ligament cells to produce BMP2. Methods OPLL patients (n=-192) and non-OPLL controls (n=304) were studied. Radiographs of the cervical spine were analyzed for extent of OPLL. We investigated whether single nucleotide polymorphisms of exons 3(-726) T/C and 3(-583) NG in the BMP2 gene are statistically associated with genetic susceptibility to OPLL in Chinese Han subjects. Results There was no statistical difference between the occurrence of exons 3(-726) T/C and 3(-583) NG and the occurrence of OPLL in the cervical spine. However, there was a significant association between occurrence of exon 3(-726) T/C polymorphism and occurrence of OPLL in males of cases and controls in the cervical spine. In addition, no significant association was found between the exons 3(-726) T/C and 3(-583) A/G with number of ossified cervical vertebrae in OPLL patients. Conclusions Exon 3(-583) A/G polymorphism in BMP2 gene is not associated with the occurrence and the extent of OPLL in the cervical spine. Chinese Han male patients with TC and CC genotypes in exon 3(-726) T/C have genetic susceptibility to OPLL but not to more extensive OPLL in the cervical spine.展开更多
BACKGROUND Radical resection is an important treatment method for hepatic echinococcosis.The posterosuperior segments of the liver remain the most challenging region for laparoscopic or robotic hepatectomy.AIM To demo...BACKGROUND Radical resection is an important treatment method for hepatic echinococcosis.The posterosuperior segments of the liver remain the most challenging region for laparoscopic or robotic hepatectomy.AIM To demonstrate the safety and preliminary experience of robotic radical resection of cystic and alveolar echinococcosis in posterosuperior liver segments.METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 5 patients with a median age of 37 years(21-56 years)with cystic and alveolar echinococcosis in difficult liver lesions admitted to two centers from September to December 2019.The surgical methods included total pericystectomy,segmental hepatectomy,or hemihepatectomy.RESULTS Among the 5 patients,4 presented with cystic echinococcosis and 1 presented with alveolar echinococcosis,all of whom underwent robotic radical operation successfully without conversion to laparotomy.Total caudate lobectomy was performed in 2 cases,hepatectomy of segment Ⅶ in 1 case,total pericystectomy of segment Ⅷ in 1 case,and right hemihepatectomy in 1 case.Operation time was 225 min(175-300 min);blood loss was 100 mL(50-600 mL);and postoperative hospital stay duration was 10 d(5-19 d).The Clavien-Dindo complication grade was Ⅰ in 4 cases and Ⅱ in 1 case.No recurrence of echinococcosis was found in any patient at the 3 mo of follow-up.CONCLUSION Robotic radical surgery for cystic and selected alveolar echinococcosis in posterosuperior liver segments is safe and feasible.展开更多

METHODS: The pyrolysis characteristics of the crude materials and their extracts were studied by thermogravimetry-mass spectrometry (TG-MS) in a carrier gas of argon, coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods. Correlation of the pyrolysis behaviors with the carbonizing process by stir-frying of traditional Chinese medicines was made. RESULTS: Within the temperature range of 200-300 ℃, which is the testing range for the study of the carbonizing process of Chinese herbs, the temperatures indicated by the maximum weight loss rate peak of the above three extracts were taken as the upper-limit temperatures of the carbonizing process of the herbs, and which were 200, 240 and 247 ℃ for Radix Rhizoma Rhei, Cortex Moudan Radicis, and Radix Sanguisorbae, respectively. The ion monitoring signal peaks detected by the TG-MS method corresponded with reports that the level of chemical components of traditional Chinese medicinal materials would decrease after the carbonizing process. It was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods that better results of "medicinal property preservation" could be obtained by heating at 200 ℃ for Radix Rhizoma Rhei, at about 250 ℃ for Cortex Moudan Radicis, and Radix Sanguisorbae, as the relative intensity values of the common peaks were among the middle of their three carbonized samples by programmed heating. CONCLUSION: The upper-limit temperatures of the carbonizing process for Radix Rhizoma Rhei, Cortex Moudan Radicis and Radix Sanguisorbae were 200, 240 and 247 ℃ respectively.
