ZES is characterized by elevated fasting gastrin serum levels, positive secretin stimulation test and clinical symptoms such as recurrent peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease and occasional diarrhea. Genetically, nonhereditary (sporadic) gastrinomas are distinguished from hereditary gastrinomas, which are associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) syndrome. In general, duodenal gastrinomas are small and solitary if they are sporadic and multiple as well as hereditary. The sporadic gastrinomas occur in the duodenum or in the pancreas while the hereditary gastrinomas almost all occur in the duodenum. Our series of 77 sporadic duodenal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) includes 18 patients (23.4%) with gastrinomas and ZES. Of 535 sporadic NETs in the pancreas collected from the NET archives of the departments of pathology in Zürich, Switzerland, and Kiel, Germany, 24 patients (4.5%) suffered from sporadic pancreatic gastrinomas and ZES. These NETs have to be distinguished from tumors with immunohistochemical positivity for gastrin but without evidence of ZES. An additional 19 patients suffered from MEN1 and ZES. These patients showed exclusively duodenal gastrinomas, but not pancreatic gastrinomas. The prognosis of sporadic and MEN1- associated duodenal gastrinomas is better than that of pancreatic gastrinomas, since they progress slowly to liver metastasis. In summary, sporadic and MEN1- associated gastrinomas in the duodenum and pancreas show different clinico-pathological and genetic features. The incidence of sporadic duodenal gastrin-producing tumors is increasing, possibly due to optimized diagnostic procedures. In contrast, pancreatic MEN1- associated gastrinomas seem to be extremely rare. A considerable subset of tumors with immunohistochemical expression of gastrin but without evidence of ZES should be designated as functionally inactive NETs exp展开更多

The change of soil moisture is influenced by multiple meteorological fac- tors. It becomes much significant for improvement of agricultural production and ef- fective use of water to explore the rule of water dynamic at small scale, spatially or temporally. In the research, water dynamic in soil horizons at 0-40 cm in winter wheat belts was simulated by SIMPLE model as per water balance principle. Fur- thermore, ETp in fields was computed according to Haude method (DVWK stan- dards); retained amount of water in fields and wilting coefficient were calculated based on soil parameters with SPAW (Soil-Plant-Air-Water). The simulated results of SIMPLE model showed that the correlation of measured and simulated water con- tent in soils was 0.95 and relative error averaged lower than 3.1%, suggesting that the model would make a more precise estimation of water content in root zone in the area.展开更多

These values are often m...Parameters of water retention and air capacity are important factors for the evaluation of soil material that will be used for vegetative covers or evapotranspiration (ET) covers of landfills. These values are often measured in the laboratory (usually on disturbed samples), but are also estimated from texture, organic matter content and dry bulk density. The standard basis for the estimation in Germany is the German Soil Classification Handbook (KA5). This estimation implicitly assumes that the data in the KA5 compiled from naturally developed soils are also valid for artificially compacted materials. In the present study, 25 materials were evaluated in the laboratory for the available water capacity, air capacity and permanent wilting point at 85%, 90% and 95% of Proctor density. The data were compared with parameter estimations from the KA5 and the program ROSETTA. Both estimation methods show significant deviations from the measured values;specifically, the change in the available water capacity in compressed samples is not estimated correctly. A possible explanation is a change in pore structure at different compaction levels of build in soil material in comparison with naturally developed soils of different bulk densities.展开更多

The oxygen diffusion coefficient fulfills this requirement and may be better suited as a characteristic parameter to describe the oxygen regime. The measurement of the gas diffusion coefficient is a common method to describe the oxygenation in mineral soils, but this method has not been studied well on growing media yet. In this investigation four different growing media were used to measure the oxygen diffusion coefficient at two different bulk densities and four different water tensions in the laboratory. The effect of density and water tension on the oxygen diffusion coefficient in different growing media and the dependence on air content were investigated. The results show that both water tension and density have a major influence on oxygen diffusion. With increasing density and moisture content, a decrease of the oxygen diffusion coefficient can be observed. Between the substrates there are no significant differences regarding the oxygen diffusion coefficient at the same air content. Based on the oxygen diffusion coefficients of the substrates, the models describing the dependence of gas diffusion coefficients to air content in the literature were tested for the transferability to growing media. The Moldrup model [1] shows the best fit. The fit can be slightly further improved by modifying the tortuosity parameter.展开更多
