The electronic and magnetic properties of Heusler alloys CoaCrZ (Z -- Ga, Ge, As) were investigated by using local spin density approximation (LSDA). Amongst the systems under investigation, CoECrGe and Co2CrGa give I00% spin polarization at the Fermi level (EF). Co2CrGe and CoECrGa are the most stable half-metallic ferromagnets (HMFs); their EF lie exactly at the gap of 0.24 eV and 0.38 eV, respectively, in the spin-down channel. Even though CoaCrAs gives a distinct and bigger gap as compared to CoECrGa and CoECrGe, its EF is not located at the middle of the gap in the spin-down channel. We have also found that the total magnetic moments increase as the Z goes from Ga to As. The calculated density of states and band structures show the HMF character for CoECrGe and Co2CrGa.展开更多

Significantly elevated bacterial growth was observed in the spleen and liver of the CN exposed animals. The increased bacterial count in these organs was evident within 4-6 days post challenge as compared to vehicle exposed infected and unexposed infected animals. Increased susceptibility to infection has been considered to be the function of immune alteration due to cumulative short term effects ofCN vapour inhalation. This may be attributed to immunotoxic effects of CN on Tcells mediated macrophage functions.展开更多

PS II was foundto be more sensitive to both pH and metals than PS I. Though, nitrate reductase (NR) wasmore sensitive to both PH and metals, the ATPase was however, more sensitive t0 metalsbut less sensitive to acidic pH. Acid PH was found to dst the nutrient (NO,' and NH4+)uptake and nitrate reductase in a non-competitive manner. The inhibition Pnduced by thetest metals alone was of noncompetitive type for NO3' uptake, nitrate reductase andATPase and competitive for NH'+ uptake. Acidity not only inhibited the metabolicvariables directly but also through facilitated uptake of metals and increased membranepermeability. A very low sensitivity of ATPase to acidic pH seems to be resgnsible forthe survival of algae in acid environment.展开更多
