Results show that the Reynolds number based on wind speed and length of leaf blade is a key parameter to the aerodynamic prob- lem. In case the front surface facing the wind and with an in- crease of Reynolds number, the leaf experiences static defor- mation, large amplitude and low frequency sway, reconfigu- ration to delta wing shape, flapping of tips, high frequency vibration of whole leaf blade, recovery of delta wing shape, and twig-leaf coupling vibration. Abrupt changes from one state to another occur at critical Reynolds numbers. In case the back surface facing the wind, the large amplitude and low frequency sway does not occur, the recovered delta wing shape is replaced by a conic shape, and the critical Reynolds numbers of vibrations are higher than the ones correspond- ing to the case with the front surface facing the wind. A pair of ram-horn vortex is observed behind the delta wing shaped leaf. A single vortex is found downstream of the conic shaped leaf. A lift is induced by the vortex, and this lift helps leaf to adjust position and posture, stabilize blade distortion and reduce drag and vibration.展开更多

LEA protein tolerance to the abotic stresses in plants involved in salt, drought and freezing stresses and additional tolerance to heat, NaHCO3 (salt-alkali) and ultraviolet radiation was also investigated. The transgenic yeast harboring the Tamarix LEA gene (DQ663481) was generated under the control of inducible GAL promoter (pYES2 vector), yeast cells transformed with pYES2 empty vector were also generated as a control. Stress tolerance tests showed that LEA yeast transformants exhibited a higher survival rates than the control transformants under high temperature, NaHCO3, ultraviolet radiation, salt (NaCl), drought and freezing, indicating that the LEA gene is tolerant to these abiotic stresses. These results suggest that the LEA gene is resistant to a wider repertoire of stresses and may play a common role in plant acclimation to the examined stress conditions.展开更多

Results showed that the improved method is suitable not only for genomic DNA extraction of birch but also for that of other plants. The purity of genornic DNA extracted by the.multi-times STE-CTAB extraction method is higher than that by one time STE-CTAB method, and it does not need the process of RNase. The factors of influencing ISSR system were explored based on the genomic DNA of birch extracted by the two methods. The optimal conditions for ISSR system were determined as follows: Mg2+ concentration is 1.5-3.0 mmol·L^-1, dNTP concentration 0.104).25 mmol·L^-1, the quantity of Taq polymerase 0.5-2.0 U, template DNA 30-100 ng, and the concentration of primer is 0.2-0.4 pmmol·L^-1, and the reaction program was as: initial denaturation for 5 min at 94℃, 30 cycles of denaturation for 30 s at 94℃,annealing for 30 s at 51℃, extension for 30 s at 72℃, and a final 7 min extension at 72℃.展开更多

Koidz) cDNA library using degenerate primers PCR and the 5'-RACE technique. The sequence analysis showed the open reading frame (ORF) of the IrlVHA-c1 c5 to be 495 bp, corresponding to a protein of 164 amino acids. Among the five isoforms, IrlVHA-c1 and IrlVHA-c2 are completely homologous. The IrlVHA-c protein is localized at the vacuolar membrane as indicated by a green fluorescent protein (GFP) marker. Its over-expression in yeast could enhance yeast tolerance to NaCl stress. These results show that there are at least five genes encoding different isoforms of IrlVHA-c in Japanese iris and IrlVHA-c is important for the function of V-ATPase.展开更多

The geometrical evolution of dust impacting on hot bead and spreading without solidification involved initial spreading, retraction and oscillation, and stabilizing. The increased impact angle was found to reduce maximum spread area, weaken retraction and oscillation, and raise steady spread area. Dust impacting on cold bead completely solidified after liquid spreading and solidification without retraction and oscillation. Increased impact angle raised solidification sliding distance, whereas it reduced solidification spread area. Then, the effects of bead temperature, dust inlet velocity and size on the sliding and spreading of dust were studied, and the results indicated that increasing bead temperature, dust inlet velocity and size could raise solidification sliding distance and solidification spread area. With the dusts continually impacting on the bed, a dust layer forms at the front of bead, being different from that of solid dust, which becomes thick firstly, and then spreads from bead front to sides.展开更多

In view of the problem that the shear stress is automatically satisfied under the free boundary condition, the generalized stress of the first-order vanishing moment of shear stress is considered. The numerical results indicate that, as the cutout is thick, the maximum value of the dynamic stress factor obtained using the refined dynamic theory is 19% higher than that from the solution of plane stress problems of elastic dynamics.展开更多

High-risk human papillomaviruses (HR-HPVs) are considered to be the major causes of cervical cancer. HPV16 is the most common type of HR-HPVs and HPV16 E6 gene is one of the major oncogenes. Specific mutations are considered as dangerous factors causing CC. This study was designed to find mutations of HPV16 E6 and the relationship between the mutations and the happening of CC. Methods: The tissue DNA was extracted from 15 biopsies of CC. Part of HPV16 E6 gene (nucleotide 201-523) was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from the CC tissue DNA. The PCR fragments were sequenced and analyzed. Results: The result of PCR showed that the positive rate of HPV16 E6 was 93.33% (14/13). After sequencing ana analyzing, in the 13 out of 14 PCR fragments, 4 maintained prototype (30.77%), 8 had a same 350G mutation (61.54%), and 1 had a 249G mutation (7.69%). Conclusion: This study suggest that there is a high infection rate of HPV in cervical cancer and most of the HPV16 E6 gene has mutations. Those mutations may have an association with the development of cervical cancer.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Aggressive vertebral hemangioma(VH)is an uncommon lesion in the adult population. The vast majority of aggressive VHs have typical radiographic features. However, preoperative diagnosis of atypical aggressive VH may be difficult.Aggressive VHs are likely to recur even with en bloc resection.CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old woman presented with a 3-mo history of numbness and pain in her right lower extremity.Physical examination showed sacral tenderness and limited mobility, and the muscle strength was grade 4 in the right digital flexor.Computed tomography revealed osteolytic bone destruction from S1 to S2.Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)showed that the mass was compressing the dural sac;it was heterogeneously hypointense on T1-weighted MRI and hyperintense on T2-weighted MRI,and gadolinium contrast enhancement showed that the tumor was heterogeneously enhanced and invading the vertebral endplate of S1.The patient developed progressive back pain and numbness in the bilateral extremities 6 mo postoperatively, and MRI examination showed recurrence of the mass. The mass was larger in size than before the operation, and it was extending into the spinal canal.CONCLUSION The radiographic findings of atypical aggressive VH include osteolytic vertebral bone destruction, extension of the mass into the spinal canal, and heterogeneous signal intensity on T1-,T2-,and enhanced T1-weighted MRI.These characteristics make preoperative diagnosis difficult, and biopsy is necessary to verify the lesion.Surgical decompression and gross total resection are recommended for treatment of aggressive VH.However, recurrence is inevitable in some cases.
文摘BACKGROUND Periosteal chondroma is a very rare benign tumor that develops adjacent to the cortical surface of bone and beneath the periosteal membrane.Periosteal chondroma of the rib is an extremely rare entity.CASE SUMMARY The patient was a 43-year-old man who had been incidentally found to have a mediastinal mass 1 mo earlier.Plain computed tomography showed a lobulated soft tissue mass on the right side of the T4/5 vertebra that measured about 47 mm×28 mm in the transverse view and contained diffuse stippled calcification. The mass caused cortical scalloping of the right fourth rib and marginal bone sclerosis.Enhanced computed tomography showed mild enhancement of the mass.Magnetic resonance imaging showed a lobulated mass on the right side of the thoracic vertebra with long TI and T2 signals, mottling, and patchy long T1 and short T2 signals inside. The lesion had a hypointense rim.Enhanced magnetic resonance imaging showed enhancement predominantly at the periphery of the tumor. The tumor was approached through a right posterolateral thoracotomy, and parts of the fourth and fifth ribs were excised with the tumor.Postoperative pathological analysis revealed periosteal chondroma of the rib.CONCLUSION Periosteal chondroma of the rib has a low incidence and typical imaging manifestations.Understanding its imaging features is helpful to ensure a correct preoperative diagnosis.

文摘Objective: Cervical cancer (CC) is the second most common type of cancer in women worldwide, after breast cancer. Those mutations may have an association with the development of cervical cancer.
文摘BACKGROUND Multiple myeloma is a malignant hematological disease characterized by proliferation of monoclonal plasma cells mainly in the bone marrow.Extraosseous epidural plasmacytoma associated with myeloma arises from lymphoid tissue in the epidural space without focal vertebral involvement, and is rare.CASE SUMMARY A 52-year-old woman was diagnosed with kappa subtype nonsecretory multiple myeloma and presented with bilateral arm weakness 11 mo after completing multiple courses of chemotherapy.Spinal magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)showed a posterior C7–T3 epidural mass with spinal cord compression. After five courses of chemotherapy,follow-up MRI showed resolution of cord compression.A 54-year-old man presented with paraplegia 15 mo after a diagnosis of IgD kappa subtype multiple myeloma and completing multiple courses of chemotherapy. He underwent Th11 and L1 laminectomies for tumor resection because MRI showed an epidural mass causing cord compression.Histopathologic examination was consistent with IgD multiple myeloma. The patients have currently survived for 33 mo and 19 mo,respectively.CONCLUSION Isolated extraosseous epidural plasmacytoma associated with multiple myeloma without bony involvement is difficult to diagnose by imaging.Definitive diagnosis requires pathological and immunohistochemical examination.

文摘The expression of Selenoprotein W(SelW)in C2C12 skeletal muscle cells was specifically decreased to examine its influence on the amount of glutathione(GSH)and the activity of glutathione peroxidase(GPx).SelW knock-down was performed by RNA interference(RNAi)in cultured muscle cells and verified by Real-time PCR and Western blotting. In addition, cell viability,GSH content and GPx activity were assayed. The results showed that the mRNA level and protein expression of SelW were decreased successfully by 71.9%and 68.8%relative to control values, cell viability decreased by 21.5%,GSH increased by 29.76%,and GPx increased by 47.58%.WST assay showed that compared with blank control, the value of positive group dropped 21.5%;In GSH and GPx assay, compared with blank control the positive group increased29.76%and 47.58%separately.In conclusion,SelW knock-down by RNAi caused significant cytotoxity in skeletal muscle cells and led to compensatory increases in GSH content and GPx activity. These findings are consistent with the suggestions from bioinformatics indicating an antioxidative role for SelW in skeletal muscle cells.
