AIM: To investigate the cellular defects by analyzing the (Th1/Th2) cytokine levels in vaccine responders and non-responders. METHODS: Peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) from responders and non-responders were stimulated with or with out recombinant HBsAg or PHA. Broad spectrum of cytokines viz (Th1) IFN-γ, IL-2, TNF-α, IL-12 and (Th2) IL-10, IL-4 were measured after in vitro stimulation with recombinant HBsAg and were compared with respective antibody titers. RESULTS: A significant decrease (P = 0.001) in Th1 and Th2 cytokines namely, IL-2, INF-γ, TNF-α and IL-10in non-responders was observed. The level of IL-4 was not significant between the three groups. Furthermore, despite a strong Th1 and Th2 cytokine response, the level of IL-12 was elevated in high-responders compared to other groups (P = 0.001) and demonstrated a positive correlation with anti-HBs titers and Th1 cytokine response. CONCLUSION: Our findings suggest that unrespon-siveness to recombinant hepatitis B vaccines (rHB) is multifactorial, including specific failure of antigen presentation or the lack of both T helper Th1 and Th2 response. 展开更多

In this study, molecular interactions of the ligands, quercetin, gallic acid, and metformin with various diabetes mellitus-related protein targets, such as glycogen phosphorylase and peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptor gamma, were assessed. It was revealed that quercetin possesses good binding affinity to both targets. Quercetin is a major constituent of methanolic extracts of Phyllanthus emblica fruit. The antihyperglycemic effect of quercetin in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic rats was examined. The isolated quercetin administered at a dose of 75 mg/kg body weight produced a maximum decrease of14.78% in blood glucose levels in the diabetic rats after 7 days of treatment. Furthermore, quercetin doses of 50 and 75 mg/kg were shown to significantly improve the profiles of triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein, very-low-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and total cholesterol at the end of the study in STZ-induced diabetic rats. The administration of quercetin(25, 50, and 75 mg/kg body weight)daily for 28 days in STZ-induced diabetic rats resulted in a significant decrease in blood glucose and urine sugar levels, with a considerable rise in plasma insulin and hemoglobin levels. Therefore, quercetin is a potential drug with antidiabetic and antihyperglycemic action mediated by changes in the levels of glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides as indicated by in silico and in vivo studies. 展开更多

As a future energy system, the smart grid is designed to improve the efficiency of traditional power systems while providing more stable and reliable services. However, this efficient and reliable service relies on collecting and analyzing users’electricity consumption data frequently, which induces various security and privacy threats. To address these challenges,we propose a double-blockchain assisted secure and anonymous data aggregation scheme for fog-enabled smart grid named DA-SADA.Specifically,we design a three-tier architecture-based data aggregation framework by integrating fog computing and the blockchain, which provides strong support for achieving efficient and secure data collection in smart grids.Subsequently,we develop a secure and anonymous data aggregation mechanism with low computational overhead by jointly leveraging the Paillier encryption, batch aggregation signature and anonymous authentication. In particular, the system achieves fine-grained data aggregation and provides effective support for power dispatching and price adjustment by the designed double-blockchain and two-level data aggregation. Finally, the superiority of the proposed scheme is illustrated by a series of security and computation cost analyses. 展开更多

Objective:To elucidate the key parameters associated with hydrogen peroxide induced oxidative stress and investigates the mechanism of trigonelline(TG)for reducing the H_2O_2induced toxicity in H9c2 cells. Methods:Cytotoxicity and antioxidant activity of TG was assessed by EZ-CYTOX kit.RNA extraction and cDNA synthesized according to the kit manufacture protocol.Apoptosis was measured by the Flowcytometry, general PCR and qPCR.Results:It was found that the TG significantly rescued the morphology of the H9c2 cells.Treatment of cells with TG attenuated H_2O_2 induced cell deaths and improved the antioxidant activity. In addition,TG regulated the apoptotic gene caspase-3,caspase-9 and anti-apoptotic gene Bcl-2.Bcl-XL during H_2O_2 induced oxidative stress in H9c2 cells. These results were comparable with quercetin treatment. For evident, flow cytometer results also confirmed the TG significantly reduced the H_2O_2 induced necrosis and apoptosis in H9c2 cells. However, further increment of TG concentration against H_2O_2 could induce the necrosis and apoptosis along with H_2O_2.Conclusions:It is suggested that less than 125μM of TG could protect the cells from H_2O_2 induced cell damage by down regulating the caspases and up regulating the Bcl-2 and Bcl-XL expression. Therefore,we suggest the trigonelline could be useful for treatment of oxidative stress mediated cardiovascular diseases in future. 展开更多

Well organized datacentres with interconnected servers constitute the cloud computing infrastructure.User requests are submitted through an interface to these servers that provide service to them in an on-demand basis. The scientific applications that get executed at cloud by making use of the heterogeneous resources being allocated to them in a dynamic manner are grouped under NP hard problem category.Task scheduling in cloud poses numerous challenges impacting the cloud performance. If not handled properly, user satisfaction becomes questionable.More recently researchers had come up with meta-heuristic type of solutions for enriching the task scheduling activity in the cloud environment. The prime aim of task scheduling is to utilize the resources available in an optimal manner and reduce the time span of task execution. An improvised seagull optimization algorithm which combines the features of the Cuckoo search(CS)and seagull optimization algorithm(SOA)had been proposed in this work to enhance the performance of the scheduling activity inside the cloud computing environment. The proposed algorithm aims to minimize the cost and time parameters that are spent during task scheduling in the heterogeneous cloud environment.Performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm had been performed using the Cloudsim 3.0 toolkit by comparing it with Multi objective-Ant Colony Optimization(MO-ACO),ACO and Min-Min algorithms. The proposed SOA-CS technique had produced an improvement of 1.06%,4.2%,and 2.4%for makespan and had reduced the overall cost to the extent of 1.74%,3.93%and 2.77%when compared with PSO,ACO,IDEA algorithms respectively when 300 vms are considered. The comparative simulation results obtained had shown that the proposed improvised seagull optimization algorithm fares better than other contemporaries. 展开更多

The metal-lightweighted electrocatalysts for water splitting are highly desired for sustainable and economic hydrogen energy deployments, but challengeable. In this work,a low-content Ni-functionalized approach triggers the high capability of black phosphorene(BP)with hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction(HER/OER)bifunctionality.Through a facile in situ electro-exfoliation route, the ionized Ni sites are covalently functionalized in BP nanosheets with electron redistribution and controllable metal contents. It is found that the as-fabricated Ni-BP electrocatalysts can drive the water splitting with much enhanced HER and OER activities. In 1.0 M KOH electrolyte, the optimized 1.5 wt%Nifunctionalized BP nanosheets have readily achieved low overpotentials of 136 mV for HER and 230 mV for OER at 10 mA cm^(−2).Moreover,the covalently bonding between Ni and P has also strengthened the catalytic stability of the Ni-functionalized BP electrocatalyst, stably delivering the overall water splitting for 50 h at 20 mA cm^(−2).Theoretical calculations have revealed that Ni–P covalent binding can regulate the electronic structure and optimize the reaction energy barrier to improve the catalytic activity effectively. This work confirms that Ni-functionalized BP is a suitable candidate for electrocatalytic overall water splitting, and provides effective strategies for constructing metal-lightweighted economic electrocatalysts. 展开更多

With the intelligentization of the Internet of Vehicles(lovs),Artificial Intelligence(Al)technology is becoming more and more essential, especially deep learning.Federated Deep Learning(FDL)is a novel distributed machine learning technology and is able to address the challenges like data security, privacy risks, and huge communication overheads from big raw data sets. However,FDL can only guarantee data security and privacy among multiple clients during data training. If the data sets stored locally in clients are corrupted, including being tampered with and lost, the training results of the FDL in intelligent IoVs must be negatively affected. In this paper,we are the first to design a secure data auditing protocol to guarantee the integrity and availability of data sets in FDL-empowered IoVs.Specifically, the cuckoo filter and Reed-Solomon codes are utilized to guarantee error tolerance, including efficient corrupted data locating and recovery. In addition,a novel data structure,Skip Hash Table(SHT)is designed to optimize data dynamics. Finally,we illustrate the security of the scheme with the Computational Diffie-Hellman(CDH)assumption on bilinear groups.Sufficient theoretical analyses and performance evaluations demonstrate the security and efficiency of our scheme for data sets in FDL-empowered IoVs. 展开更多

AIM: To screen for the co-infection of hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected patients in southern India. METHODS: Five hundred consecutive HIV infected patients were screened for Hepatitis B Virus (HBsAg and HBV-DNA) and Hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV and HCV-RNA) using commercially available ELISA kits; HBsAg, HBeAg/ anti-HBe (Biorad laboratories, USA) and anti-HCV (Murex Diagnostics, UK). The HBV-DNA PCR was performed to detect the surface antigen region (pre S-S). HCV-RNA was detected by RT-PCR for the detection of the constant 5' putative non-coding region of HCV. RESULTS: HBV co-infection was detected in 45/500 (9%) patients and HCV co-infection in 11/500 (2.2%) subjects. Among the 45 co-infected patients only 40 patients could be studied, where the detection rates of HBe was 55% (22/40), antiHBe was 45% (18/40) and HBV-DNA was 56% (23/40). Among 11 HCV co-infected subjects, 6 (54.5%) were anti-HCV and HCV RNA positive, while 3 (27.2%) were positive for anti-HCV alone and 2 (18%) were positive for HCV RNA alone. CONCLUSION: Since the principal routes for HIV transmission are similar to that followed by the hepatotropic viruses, as a consequence, infections with HBV and HCV are expected in HIV infected patients. Therefore, it would be advisable to screen for these viruses in all the HIV infected individuals and their sexual partners at the earliest. 展开更多

Cloud computing provides a diverse and adaptable resource pool over the internet, allowing users to tap into various resources as needed. It has been seen as a robust solution to relevant challenges.A significant delay can hamper the performance of IoT-enabled cloud platforms. However, efficient task scheduling can lower the cloud infrastructure’s energy consumption, thus maximizing the service provider’s revenue by decreasing user job processing times. The proposed Modified Chimp-Whale Optimization Algorithm called Modified Chimp-Whale Optimization Algorithm(MCWOA),combines elements of the Chimp Optimization Algorithm(COA)and the Whale Optimization Algorithm(WOA).To enhance MCWOA’s identification precision, the Sobol sequence is used in the population initialization phase, ensuring an even distribution of the population across the solution space. Moreover, the traditional MCWOA’s local search capabilities are augmented by incorporating the whale optimization algorithm’s bubble-net hunting and random search mechanisms into MCWOA’s position-updating process. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed approach using a two-story rigid frame and a simply supported beam model.Simulated outcomes reveal that the new method outperforms the original MCWOA,especially in multi-damage detection scenarios.MCWOA excels in avoiding false positives and enhancing computational speed, making it an optimal choice for structural damage detection. The efficiency of the proposed MCWOA is assessed against metrics such as energy usage, computational expense, task duration, and delay. The simulated data indicates that the new MCWOA outpaces other methods across all metrics. The study also references the Whale Optimization Algorithm(WOA),Chimp Algorithm(CA),Ant Lion Optimizer(ALO),Genetic Algorithm(GA)and Grey Wolf Optimizer(GWO). 展开更多

Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT)is crucial for maximizing the energy output of photovoltaic(PV)systems by continuously adjusting the operating point of the panels to track the point of maximum power production under changing environmental conditions. This work proposes the design of an MPPT system for solar PV installations using the Differential Grey Wolf Optimizer(DGWO).It dynamically adjusts the parameters of the MPPT controller, specifically the duty cycle of the SEPIC converter,to efficiently track the Maximum Power Point(MPP).The proposed system aims to enhance the energy harvesting capability of solar PV systems by optimizing their performance under varying solar irradiance, temperature and shading conditions.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the DGWO-based MPPT system in maximizing the power output of solar PV installations compared to conventional MPPT methods. This research contributes to the development of advanced MPPT techniques for improving the efficiency and reliability of solar energy systems. 展开更多

Utilization of mesenchymal stromal cells(MSCs) for the treatment of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis is of translational interest.Safety of MSC therapy has been well demonstrated in early phase clinical trials but efficacy in randomized clinical trials needs to be demonstrated.Understanding MSC mechanisms of action to reduce gut injury and inflammation is necessary to improve current ongoing and future clinical trials. However, two major hurdles impede the direct translation of data derived from animal experiments to the clinical situation:(1) limitations of the currently available animal models of colitis that reflect human inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).The etiology and progression of human IBD are multifactorial and hence a challenge to mimic in animal models; and(2) Species specific differences in the functionality of MSCs derived from mice versus humans.MSCs derived from mice and humans are not identical in their mechanisms of action in suppressing inflammation. Thus, preclinical animal studies with murine derived MSCs cannot be considered as an exact replica of human MSC based clinical trials. In the present review, we discuss the therapeutic properties of MSCs in preclinical and clinical studies of IBD.We also discuss the challenges and approaches of using appropriate animal models of colitis, not only to study putative MSC therapeutic efficacy and their mechanisms of action, but also the suitability of translating findings derived from such studies to the clinic. 展开更多

Hydrogen with high energy density and zero carbon emission is widely acknowledged as the most promising candidate toward world’s carbon neutrality and future sustainable eco-society.Water-splitting is a constructive technology for unpolluted and high-purity H2 production, and a series of non-precious electrocatalysts have been developed over the past decade. To further improve the catalytic activities, metal doping is always adopted to modulate the 3d-electronic configuration and electron-donating/accepting(e-DA)properties,while for anion doping, the electronegativity variations among different non-metal elements would also bring some potential in the modulations of e-DA and metal valence for tuning the performances. In this review,we summarize the recent developments of the many different anion-mixed transition metal compounds(e.g.,nitrides,halides,phosphides,chalcogenides,oxyhydroxides,and borides/borates)for efficient water electrolysis applications.First,we have introduced the general information of water-splitting and the description of anion-mixed electrocatalysts and highlighted their complementary functions of mixed anions.Furthermore, some latest advances of anion-mixed compounds are also categorized for hydrogen and oxygen evolution electrocatalysis. The rationales behind their enhanced electrochemical performances are discussed.Last but not least, the challenges and future perspectives are briefly proposed for the anion-mixed water dissociation catalysts. 展开更多

The present research work concerns about the hydrodynamic behaviors of the open net offshore fish cages of single, double and 4-cage systems subjected to regular sinusoidal waves. The open net semisubmersible rigid cage is square in shape and analyzed numerically using ANSYS AQWA software.Frequency and time domain analyses are carried out for each case. The hydrodynamic parameters such as added mass, radiation potential damping, motion responses and mooring line tensions are considered as performance indicators to conclude as the best arrangements among three different cages. The single cage and windward side of all cages exhibit identical performance in all hydrodynamic parameters. The leeward side of each cage shows lesser parametric values than the windward side cages.Based on the performance indicators,it is concluded that the grid system containing four cage arrangements provides better performance than three other cage configurations. An experimental model of 1∶75 scale is fabricated and wave flume studies are conducted to validate the present numerical model. The cage is placed at a water depth of 55 cm and subjected to wave heights of 12 cm and 14 cm with wave periods ranging from 0.8 s to 2.2 s with an interval of 0.2 s are considered. The same wave flume boundary conditions are adopted for numerical simulations and results are in good agreement with experimental work results. 展开更多

In recent years, there has been a significant transformation in the field of incoherent imaging with new possibilities of compressing three-dimensional(3D)information into a two-dimensional intensity distribution without two-beam interference(TBI).Most of the incoherent 3D imagers without TBI are based on scattering by a random phase mask exhibiting sharp autocorrelation and low cross-correlation along the depth.Consequently, during reconstruction, high lateral and axial resolutions are obtained.Imaging based on scattering requires an astronomical photon budget and is therefore precluded in many power-sensitive applications. In this study,a proof-of-concept 3D imaging method without TBI using deterministic fields has been demonstrated.A new reconstruction method called the Lucy-Richardson-Rosen algorithm has been developed for this imaging concept. We believe that the proposed approach will cause a paradigm-shift in the current state-of-the-art incoherent imaging, fluorescence microscopy,mid-infrared fingerprinting, astronomical imaging, and fast object recognition applications. 展开更多

Automated object detection has received the most attention over the years.Use cases ranging from autonomous driving applications to military surveillance systems, require robust detection of objects in different illumination conditions.State-of-the-art object detectors tend to fare well in object detection during daytime conditions. However, their performance is severely hampered in night light conditions due to poor illumination. To address this challenge, the manuscript proposes an improved YOLOv5-based object detection framework for effective detection in unevenly illuminated nighttime conditions.Firstly, the preprocessing strategies involve using the Zero-DCE++approach to enhance lowlight images. It is followed by optimizing the existing YOLOv5 architecture by integrating the Convolutional Block Attention Module(CBAM)in the backbone network to boost model learning capability and Depthwise Convolutional module(DWConv)in the neck network for efficient compression of network parameters. The Night Object Detection(NOD)and Exclusively Dark(ExDARK)dataset has been used for this work. The proposed framework detects classes like humans, bicycles, and cars.Experiments demonstrate that the proposed architecture achieved a higher Mean Average Precision(mAP)along with a reduction in model size and total parameters, respectively. The proposed model is lighter by 11.24%in terms of model size and 12.38%in terms of parameters when compared to baseline YOLOv5. 展开更多

A 19-year-old man had an accidental fall from the 2nd floor and sustained multiple injuries. On radiological evaluation, the patient had symmetrical quadruple limb involvement with bilateral humerus shaft, bilateral olecranon, bilateral femur shaft, and bilateral patella fractures. The patient was actively managed using damage control orthopaedics, and a sequence of skeletal fixation was planned based on the hemodynamic stability and periodical serum lactate assessment.Symmetrical quadruple limb fractures are very rare, which could be associated with higher mortality.A meticulous clinical evaluation, periodical blood parameter assessment and strict adherence to the principles of damage control orthopaedics can be conducive to prevent life-endangering complications. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the antihyperglycemic activity of leaves of Hyptis suaveolens using streptozotocin model.Mothods:Hyptis suaveolens extract(HSE) 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight was administered orally to streptozotocin induced diabetes, once daily for 21 days. Results:A significant reduction in blood glucose was observed in diabetic animals treated with HSE at different doses when compared with diabetic rats.Levels of triglyceride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprolein.very low density lipoprotein were decreased while administering HSE at different doses, compared with their control values in diabetic animals. Conclusions:Our results show that HSE possesses significant antihyperglycemic activity which might be attributed to stimulating effects on glucose utilization and antioxidant enzyme. 展开更多
