Developed countries transfer pollution to China through trade. The time series analysis reveals a positive U-shaped relationship between environmental pollution and per-capita GDP in China. These results do not conform to the EKC hypothesis, though the results of panel data do. Such results are inconsistent with those of previous empirical studies.
