The enzymatic activity of the crude extract of this protein was, however, rather low compared with that of actomyosin and then further purification of the protein was carried out. In the present communication we would report the preliminary results obtained for the purification of the tobacco contractile protein by gel filtration and some of its ATPase properties. About 1000 g of the vascular bundles were isolated from freshly collected tobacco leaves and then frozen in a refrigerator at —20℃ overnight.
